Exploring the Hidden Beauty of the Elizabeth River NJ
I'd have told them to screw off. What are they going to do? Jump in the water?
Looking forward to your next video. Lol
heh heh, me too 😉
The low floating dock looks like those used by rowing clubs to launch long rowing craft used by many rowers, like a university rowing team. There appeared to be a coach's motorized launch there as well.
Hey brother, any idea what’s going on with the old CNJ tracks behind Burger King/Sun Tavern/Wawa in Roselle Park? My last few trips up to Union I glance over that area from the 137 overpass on the parkway and it looks like there’s some kind of work being done on that track???
@@kevinalb1085 hi there . I’m not aware of any railtrail plans. I have walked over there. It’s the apartments being built. They had the businesses remove their cars off the tracks. The whole area there under Gordon st bridge would be prime for a rail trail. Conrail owns it and says in “inactive”not abandoned. It’s disappointing that not much has been done on the RVR or CNJ😢
Great job. I lived in North Arlington, Kearny then Belleville for about 25 years, so I know these sights very well. Used to picnic and play baseball in County Park in Lyndhurst, right on The Passaic River.
Hi Tom, hope you got a kick out of seeing some of your old stomping ground . thanks for the kind words
The Passaic River is basically toilet water.
Real nice trip. I'm glad that everyone had fun.
Thanks, it was a blast!
Fish? I wouldn’t eat anything that was pulled out of the Arthur Kill😜. In the ‘60’s, we would sometimes launch our boat in Sewaren
I agree, there are signs posted everywhere about not eating fish and crabs. I ask people on the waterfront in elizabeth if they eat what they catch, some say they do !
Funny how everyone's driving a car under the rail bridge at the end and there ain't no cops standing around asking for their papers
Never thought of it that way, i like how you think!
Thanks for taking me to a place I haven't been to yet.
Hi Harry, I hope you enjoyed it, thank you for checking out the video
Great history there when the Anthracite carriers supplied NYC with coal !
I was in awe being there
Carry it up to Raritan Road if you are foolhardy. Cross OVER THE Parkway to where the river comes back out from under the Garden State Parkway culvert on the Winfield Park borough side, and continue kayaking down and around to rhe dammed up marsh at the top of the dam at Valley Road, and into the park in Non-tidal Rahway.
One day I will kayak from the mouth of the Rahway around south mountain all the way to the arthur kill in one trip. thanks for the tips!
Wise words -- for me it's a hiking club that takes a bus or a train every weekend to hike around in the woods all day; thanks for this video; cool adventure :)
Oh a hiking club!, You took it to a new level ❤ Meeting other like minded people must be a plus. Thank you for the kind comment
I have paddled there. We even built a little fort there... heck, there might even still be bottles of bourbon or rye left in it. Also, doesn't he seem like one of THE most pleasant and nicest people ever-
its great to hear someone talk about exploring the island. I didnt find the hooch, i'll look harder next time :) Thanks for sharing your story
wild
yes, it is a wild place. I did want to see some wildlife. i got to hang around longer (camp out ) 🤣
That place reminded me a bit of Oak Island. It doesn't look like old growth on there the vegetation so I wonder what was there before. You are right about the effect of music, I am a musician myself and it's good not to just listen but to play.
Hello friend, you;re a muician, thats awesome.you may be inspiring me to pick up the guitar again (im a hack) an you;re right about the sparseness In 2007, Prall's Island became a focal point in the fight against the Asian longhorned beetle, with 3,000 trees removed and extensive restoration efforts undertaken to halt the beetle's spread. thakns for the comments from across the atlantic :)
You're welcome! Thanks for the info there, looks like they did a good job combatting that dastardly Beetle!
Thanks for the upload. I always wanted to go to Prall's Island. As a Kid we had row boats and and passed that island plenty of times but never stopped. About a 1/2 mile away on the Rahway River there is a smaller island that is called Potter's Island. You should check that one out one day
oh yes, i've been past that island a few times. I would have to get creative, during lower tide the mud is insane there. thanks for the idea :)
Nice work guys. Drove through there for years on Madison Hill Rd. to and from the Merck Rahway site.
Thanks, lots of people love the Rahway River !
The kayak is my favorite boat enjoy
Thanks me too!
I grew up on Staten Island. Loved it in the 70's and 80's, but if you stood in the water up to your ankles, you couldn't see your feet. Never saw a deer until I was in my mid thirties. And we pronounce Prall as rhyming with all. Enjoyed watching this.
Hi there, thanks for the heads up on the name. Prawls Island it is!. Thanks for the great comment .This is crazy, i just read this : Deer can swim, run up to 35 miles per hour, and jump over an 8-foot-high fence. www.nyc.gov/nyc-resources/living-with-white-tailed-deer-in-new-york-city.page#:~:text=Deer%20migrated%20to%20Staten%20Island,December)%20because%20of%20mating%20season.

great suggestion, I have been across the arthur kill to the mouth of that creek, there are several species of birs right there. it looks beautiful going into the Goethals pond complexx, thanks for the suggestion
I'm on tremley point almost every day, I can confirm on the abundance of foxes, nice trip, I subscribed and I hope your channel grows.
Great name! I love the foxes running around, especially around dusk. thank you for the encouragement and the subscribe!
@OutDehExplorer my screen name is a reflection of what I do for a living, I haul gasoline, you have to be insane to do this job in the tri state area🤦. About the foxes, there was a couple of roadkill deer on Wood ave and I noticed that there was a little less of them with each passing day 😬. I even saw a very healthy looking fox walking away from one of the deer as I was driving by. Your content is very wholesome and I really appreciate how you respect nature, I'll be watching your other videos as soon as I can, cheers.
I think the water didn't bring trash that high up, but someones abandoned encampment
Could be! I was thinking of hiding a trailcam over there and come back for it a few weeks later.
I am sure that Hurricane Sandy had a lot to do with debris being that far up onto the island.
I think you're right, and IDA and Ian. Wondered what it would be like to be on that island during one of those!
I love trees too.
Lots to love about them! taking a deep breath in the forest is magical. thanks for the comment :)
8:56 somewhere a Basketball American is missing his stolen basketball.....
nice! will explore this place next summer.
I hope you get to explore the island, the whole arthur kill is an adventure
@@OutDehExplorer hard to get there. i mean - no easy access to the shore.
I always tell myself, if ya don't get to going ~ You'll never get to go . I love the Poconos. My grandparents had a place at Arrow head Lake . It is a great childhood memory. Thanks for the flash back . 💯🙏❤🇺🇸
Hi Amy, love that , I can use all the motivational thoughts as i can get. Arrowhead lake!! My family has been going to the Poconos since the late 50s , have some great memories . Thank you for the wonderful comment as always
Yes that rahway plaza apartment area is gated and keyed, technically trespassing for apartment residents and guests of..
I guess i need to make some friends in that building soon. in the past a family was having a barbecue and they offered to bring me a plate
Great song, thank you.
Hi Mark, glad you like the song. I just saw them at webster hall in NYC , and again in CT . Matthew Caws and the band are great guys,.
Always great medicine to watch another one of your adventures. Nothing stops you :)))
@@shoretrader1 hey Don! Hope you enjoyed seeing pralls island . Thanks for the kind words
Another great video. I’ve always wondered about that Island. I used to always look at google maps to see what I can. Have you ever been to North Brother Island? I heard that’s a pretty cool place. Another awesome place is the ship graveyard off of Staten Island.
@@PSthefirst1 thank you for the kind words. I figure I’ll get to all these places at some point. Thanks for the ideas
I didn’t know deer can swim! Your getting so philosophical anymore! Good video as always
It’s true! 😊 A lot of deer swam over from NJ to NYC. We used to have many deer in the city streets.
@@theshedMTB thanks ! I won’t stop until I figure out the meaning of life. Going to be a lot of videos 🤣
@@PSthefirst1 isn’t that a wild thought? Deers migrating through the Arthur kill!
@@OutDehExplorer did something happen to make you start this search?
When i was a kid (60+ yrs ago) that island had no deer there but plenty of artifacts! Heck, nor were there any deer, turkey or ticks on SI (before the VZ bridge). That area on SI (prior to the dump) was loaded with pheasants and muskrats, easy hunting!
@@fishntools that’s wild , I love the history , do you think the deer swam there?
Do you know any unknown islands around the NJ?NYC metro area? Thank you for checking out this video. Let me know if you have any ideas for another urbex adventure .
Go to Hoffman Island (once a quarantine station).
Ship Graveyard on Staten Island and North Brother Island. You might like to check those places out. Enjoyed your video. Kayaking looks like a lot of fun.
Also forgot to mention Swinburne Island. It was a quarantine station off of Staten Island. I don’t really know if anything exists from the quarantine days on that island. It might be a cool place to visit.
@@fishntoolsit looks like an elongated hexagon , thanks for the idea 💡
@@PSthefirst1 thanks , I can’t believe how many of these little islands exist !
Awesome! I really enjoyed the video. Watched the entire thing. You were going deep on us in this one. Great messages! Good vibes. Maybe that island would be a good spot to camp overnight. Might have to consider that. 🤔 😀
Hi Matt! I really appreciate you watching . I am having a blast with your videos, you are on a roll, great stuff. I look forward to the days of a TwoFeet Outdeh adventure . thanks Matt
I live out in Bucks Co. There is a manor house & mill in Prallsville outside of Stockton NJ.
@@samanthab1923 oh wow, I wonder if that is related to the same Dutch Prall. Thanks for coming by
@ I think it is. My son worked giving tours at the manor house & there are tons of family going way back. Speaking of the Dutch & since you were near SI. Do you know why they call the span from NJ to SI the Outerbridge Crossing?
@ ha, I don’t . Why is that?
@ They named it after Peter Outerbridge early Dutch settler. You can’t call it the Outerbridge Bridge 😆👋
@ I can’t believe I didnt know that after all the money I spent crossing over it all the years. Great history, thank you
Nada Surf - Always Love 🔥 🔥 🔥
Hey Cheo! you know it, Always Love. this song has gotten me through some tough times. I saw Nada Surf on tour a few weeks ago. Matthew Caws and the band are awesome Live, the new record is great! Thanks for noticing :)

What is the camera set up ??
Hi, its a gopro Hero 10, im using a Rhode Wireless pro 2. The angle from the back is off a yak attack pole. It would be cooler from a an insta360. one of these days
that's on my list of places to kayak to. very cool!
Hey Scott, go for it! Next time im definitely going to spend more time on the island and exploring the creek going into Staten island.
Awesome back in the 80s I used to go up and down the kill in my 17' Chris craft the only difference was back then the water wasn't as clean
Hey John, that sounds awesome! good times on the Kill!
The current is slower near the sides of the river.
@@evovulpes122 I tried to get to the inside of the bends , but it was too much for me. It was scary crossing
Brings back memories of hours spent playing in the woods behind the house I grew up in with the railroad tracks. Still remember the morning train going by while eating breakfast until they shut down in the early 90s
I never got to see the train live, that must have been cool
Great trip. You went under the Amtrak bridge and it looks like the Rte. 1 bridge. I went to Rutgers. Upstream Red Team, Red Team Upstream! 🙂

@@EffdaBlx you really think so? I spoke to them for about 20 minutes off camera . They were cool guys
Just wondering why you went against the current instead of with the current. Did you know the Passaic River is the most polluted river in the USA? No joke. I have lived within 5 miles of this river all my life. In the 50s the water was crystal ckear.
*OOps i thought this comment was for another video. no this area is not tidal of course. my goal was to get to the great falls , and ride the current back. Didnt happen! yes, the river is polluted, "The $1.38 billion Passaic River cleanup aims to remove toxic dioxins and contaminants through dredging and capping, with completion expected in 5-10 years under EPA oversight."
Nice paddle trip.
