The big reason companies like translating Animated media into Live-action is because it brings in a whole new audience. Many fantastic stories like ATLA has many advantage at being animated but just as many if not more disadvantages. Many people consider animation nothing more than for kids which is true for many animations. But ATLA has many dark things, emotional and interesting characters. Translating animated media into live-action provides more audience from the general public.

Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War are both written a lot better than Rings of Power. Sure it’s also pretty much a fanfiction because Talion never existed and Celebrimbor never possessed any type of ranger. But that doesn’t really matter considering Talion just becomes a Nazgul by the end of it till Sauron fell. But it used this fanfic setting to make a good game with fantastic gameplay.

Getting simpering, milquetoast, pearl-clutching leftist drivel shoved down your gullet 24/7 day-in day-out is a great way to fix that particular error. 👎

I saw a great analysis yesterday: Rings of power is a success by being a giant advertisement for amazon prime, so long as you stay a prime user and purchase through the Amazon store, Bezos is happy... thats the reason for no name actors and unrecognizable show runners in Rings of Power, it was just a giant "tent-pole" attraction to get more people unto Amazon prime to purchase in the store...

I've generally liked the writing in Season 2 more (so far, 6 episodes in), but what you've pointed out here about how much his S2 plan as Annatar hinges on nobody telling Celebrimbor that Halbrand is Sauron is an embarrassing oversight.

I'll be honest, and it may be a controversial opinion, but I dont think Amazon is to blame for what the show is. I blame the Tolkien estate or whoever controls access to the rights. Obviously, the show has really awful writing, but they are operating within the parameters of what they paid for, which the estate made them pay an obsene amount of money for. If the conditions had been that they could have access to more of Tolkiens work, with insistant greater supervision of experts and better writers, then who knows what kind of show we could have had. I mean, where did the money go for all of this? If I were Jeff Bezos, I would be asking for my money back.

That's an entire generation of media at this point. It's even worse with Star Trek where we're supposed to have highly trained astronauts in a military structure acting like sarcastic teenagers back-chatting their parents to their superior officers.

It's Amazon. Everything they touch crumbles as if they are some sort of dark lord deceiving and plotting behind the scenes (Not to mention it's funded by a literal slave work which I was part of for two months because I could not physically stand working in their warehouse). Two Worlds was marketed as the new best MMO, and it failed because nobody working on it understood why MMO's can be great and how to actually make a good one. It came out as a glitchy mess with no soul and really bad mechanics. Here we are with the Tolkiens world and everyone should have predicted that corporations just can't and will never be able to produce something with an artistic and cultural value because that's not the point. Money is. Tolkien wrote his world with care because his goal was not to make fat stacks of cash, but because he actually wanted to make a great story. The bigger the company, the more soulless products it shits out, no matter the franchise. Corporal ladders, rules, lack of creative freedom, fear of something being bad for the boss who knows nothing about things he works with, correctness about everything. Political too, but I'm talking more about literally correctness about everything that involves production of said content. From hiring wrong people/not giving a chance to less expirienced but more creative ones, to being too scared to make bold decisions by writers/directors. It's a literal golden cage for art because money is not the problem, the system of production and who actually is responsible for the projects is. That's why I'm not watching shows, movies, play games, read books until I'm sure that they are not a product but a piece of art and I advise everyone to do the same. If numbers don't add up then they will stop. "What if we don't get any more of the scarce good stuff if corporations stop?" So be it. Go and make your own art, people, and I assure you that a freaking stickman stabbing other stickman scribbled on a piece of paper has more value than these pieces of garbage people call blockbusters.

hobbit was a disaster too...Bit it s not the deviation from the books LOTR the movie whe deviates from the books is not a disaster. I liked Arwen instead of Glorfindel saving Frodo because presenting strong characters like GF or Tom that don t move the plot in the movie would look lame to the uninitiated to tolkien s legends. The destruction of the ring was better in the movie the ring was destructed by it s own malice instead of an accident serves very well. Even the "villaination" of Isildur though i didn t like makes sense. This shows that to deviate with a plan may work

I think the funniest part of this show isn’t that they bought the wrong rights knowingly it was that the estate wouldn’t sell them anything else and that it was the actual original trilogy they got it was the appendices and the hobbit. They literally can’t mention anything unless it was mentioned in those two things and instead of being smart about it and coming up with a thoughtful interesting original story set in middle earth they fucking wrote the worlds shittiest butchering
