    How frequently do I need to change the fuel filter? Does the oil drain out the fill port or is there a separate exit? Professional vid, thank you!

    • @SHONEY21Z
      @SHONEY21Z 5 дней назад

      I hardly ever replace fuel filters. Most are inside the gas tank and only clean them out when a running issue occurs and no fuel flows. Compressed air cleaned them. If they are in line fuel filters I just inspect them, replace if dirty. Most new mowers dump the oil out the fill tube now. Run the engine to get the oil warm and mixed up with the sludge that settles on the bottom. Then dump to the side with the exhaust downward and the carb up towards the sky.

      Yeah I guess I shouldn’t filmed that part. I pulled it with the choke to get it to Hickok but it didn’t. So I opened the throttle and pulled 30 times to see if it may have just been flooded but that didn’t work either. Then I started filming for a carb clean. If the chain is dull, makes a lot of dust, and gets through that airfilter and into the fuel system.

    I’ve developed a method for installing the needle, lever, axle and spring that is dead easy using silicone/dielectric grease to hold pieces together. The grease washes away easily as the engine fires. I use a large set of tweezers and the open tube of grease, inserting first the spring into the tube and then setting in its location in the carb. Then the axle is dipped into the grease and inserted into the lever. Lastly, the top of the needle is greased and set in place into the lever. All ready to install, making sure to have the screw and screwdriver close at hand to install. I make sure the axle is offset more or less correctly to fit and in everything goes! Easy peasey, even for fumble fingers or sausage fingers! 🔧👍

    • @Rein_Ciarfella
      @Rein_Ciarfella 11 дней назад

      I always use the appropriate gauge to confirm the lever height is correct. They usually are, but those few times they aren’t means removing and partially disassembling the carb again. Takes no time to check.

    • @SHONEY21Z
      @SHONEY21Z 11 дней назад

      Pretty good technique. Might have to try that. I’ve been pretty lucky with getting the needle and rocker in without the spring launching across the garage but I feel like that time is coming haha

      Shoot air? Like with an air compressor? Sounds like either that choke isn’t opening or the throttle is sticking (or hooked up wrong) there are two butterfly gates in the carb, both allow more or less air to increase or decrease the engine speed. The choke is closer to the outside of the carb, usually on a manual lever or autochoke. It’s closed to start the machine but then you manually open the choke or hear automatically opens it. The other butterfly is the throttle, that’s usually hooked up to the govenor and Anita the speed to normal operating speed around 3000 RPMs. You need to see if the choke is opening first. If it is, look to see if the throttle is hooked up right and that the butterfly isn’t stuck closed.

    Just installed a new carb and plug on mine and it still won’t start (this is after I took apart and cleaned two carbs I had on hand as well). I would assume at this point there may be carbon build up in the cylinder? I even poured a little fuel into the cylinder in hopes that it would help but nothing. Any tips?

      Compression. Was ever run with straight gas? Does a compression test or pull the exhaust and look at the condition of the side of the piston. If that’s good check if you have spark, the coils could go bad and finally make sure fuel lines are in the correct position. If none of this. If it’s none of that, my guess would be bad crank seals or the O-ring at the back of the engine

      Same issue here, replaced everything. Maybe Got bad new carb. I used thumb over spark plug hole and blows my thumb off so I believe compressing is good, it has spark. Gonna try starting fluid see if I can get it to pop at least. How can you test crank seal.? I'm stumped on this one😅

    • @SHONEY21Z
      @SHONEY21Z 7 дней назад

      @@thomastrotier4267if you pull the back cover off, these have an o-ring that seals the back of the crankcase. You can check that it’s in good shape and not pinched. The carb you got is aftermarket? If it doesn’t pop with squirting fuel directly in, check the timing on the flywheel. Try different spark plugs, and finally pull the exhaust and make sure the piston isn’t scratched. Might as well check the spark arrestor at that time too.

      To replace it? Is the coil bad or the wire torn? Some coil wires screw into the cap and the coil. Some are sealed at factory

      The carb you installed, is it adjustable? Could be out of adjustment. Also, it’s possible that the compression is low and needs a valve job.

    Good job! I’ve had those carbs apart but for some reason I don’t remember that main jet being removable. Maybe I was working on a slightly different model. Someone else mentioned increasing your audio volume. At the loudest sequences it was fine - just variations in volume from one clip to another, so I had to adjust volume at least three times. More consistent volume is what’s really needed. Great editing, by the way - I always appreciate speeding up fastener sequences.

      That’s a tough one. Stripping that screw is a major ordeal. I would search Amazon/harbor freight or anywhere you can think of for a long skinny stripped bolt extractor. Another option I’ve seen ppl try is hammer a flathead into the bolt head to try and make new groove and turn it that way. I’ve also seen this done with a slightly larger torx T-handle
