Yes. It’s listed under the links that they are associate links.
This happens when you leave this sitting for any length of time. The fuel filter is in the tank. It's just a screen. There is no room for a real filter that I could find.
You can usually blow the fuel filter clear with forced air into the tank of the tank is empty and the cap is off. But you can idiot test fuel flow by removing the fuel line at the carb and allowing fuel to flow into a cup. If it’s good, then it’s just clogged carb.
@SHONEY21Z You're missing the point about the fuel filter. It is letting particles through that clog the jet causing the problem. It needs a better filter.
@@MikeJones-rk1un that’s not what happened here. Rarely do I find particles in clogged carbs. It happens, but a majority of the time is old fuel that breaks down and turns to gel and then hardens, especially ethenol gas. As long as gas is flowing through the filter that’s in the tank, it’s stopping any small particles
@@SHONEY21Z I have the same machine. The filter allows particles through and into the small jet into the carb. It has happened several times to me. I assume by your comment that you have tried using non ethanol gas and had no problem like this clog?
@@MikeJones-rk1unit can definitely happen. I only use non ethanol fuel but I can’t say the same for my customers. The ethanol gas definitely gums much quicker than non ethanol. Debris I’m usually comes from your gas can.
Stripped the threads trying to get the jet out - now can’t get the cap to go on tight enough. I get it to tighten to a point then it slips. Thinking maybe throw another washer on to increase the chance of hitting a good thread?
You could try. It’s a steel bolt going into aluminum, only needs a light tightening. Can try using a tap on the threads but prob not enough metal left. If it was me, I would remove the carb, drill the threads tap and install a helicoil. Or… The aftermarket carbs for these are good enough. They are usually around $20.
Thanks!
No problem
Great didn’t show anything 😂
Good call. Thought I made a full length video for a Honda carb clean but now seeing I didn’t. I’ll get on that this summer. I did link a video of a Honda engine carb clean for a pressure washer. It will show how to clean the carb which is 99% the same process. Thanks 🙏
I took the drain bolt out and only a little gas came out. I have gas flow turned, tank half filled with gas and also cap off. Any ideas?
My guess is the carb got gummed up from old gas. So the needle is probably sticking and now letting fuel to flow. It’ll likely need a good cleaning. You may be able to get to the main jet and needle by putting it on its front end and pulling the bowl off. But it really should be removed and cleaned well.
@ Thank you , I wil give they a shot
went to pull off my choke button and the rod broke off, how do I replace that? same exact machine as that one you fixed.....
That’s happens to me once before. It depends where it broke. It may be fixable. Otherwise prob needs to be replaced. Does it look like this?…. amzn.to/4hd3YR6
Nice job. Great video -- thank you.
Thanks 🙏
Thanks bro, we're getting 6 inches tomorrow. You just saved me a lot of trouble.
Glad it helped
Can mechanic in a bottle or seafoam do the same?
I was say highly unlikely unless the clogged jets are barely clogged with stale gas.
We're expecting 6 in of snow down here in Texas. I haven't seen snow since I was a baby and I'm 70 .
Expecting 6” here in the northeast tomorrow as well. Been a very busy day today
@SHONEY21Z save me a snowblower. We don't know how to drive in that stuff. There'll be so many rear-ended cars down here.
Can you get the carb off without removing the housing? Can’t get past the throttle
No, have to remove the cover to be able to slide the carb off. You can only take the bowl off without removing the cover.
I,m stumpped, just purchased this left over unit from Lowe’s. Followed your video and the unit still surges. I’m pretty sure all orifices are cleaned. I know it’s a leftover model and has never been started, but I don’t want to return it. WHATS NEXT? thank you
Still running lean. Did you remove the carb and clean everything? Including the float and needle, both main and pilot jet and the small holes in the mouth of the carb? If so, I would make sure all gaskets are there especially the intake gasket between the carb and intake. If that all looks good, I would check the valve clearance. And spark plug gap.
I got a cheap set of micro drill bits to clean out that hole. Works much better than a wire bristle. Thanks for the video
I have them too. Work really well when the jet is clogged with dried fuel and corrosion. Don’t need them often but work great when I do. Most ppl have wire around so I usually show vids with that. Thanks for watching!
@@SHONEY21Z awesome! Did this job on my ariens last year and stored it well without fuel, empty carb etc but lo and behold it was still surging this winter. Took no chance and slightly enlarged the hole on the pilot jet. Let's see if that permanently fixes it
See what happens
Very good video - but using wire like that isn't my bag - use a super small drill bit or a torch tip cleaner and do not break it off in the pilot hole or its big trouble!
I’ve done that. I use all three. The drill bits when the hole is so dried and harness with fuel and corrosion, the torch tips for bigger jet holes that has some edge build up and the wire for tiny pilot holes that aren’t caked on but just gummed up. Thanks for watching and the tips!
I owe you a beer. Thanks!
🍻
Very good 👍👍 thanks for showing so much details. Learned a lot
Thanks for watching!
So, do you think the cause of cylinder damage is a bad fuel?
thank you good sir!!!!
Np 🫡
Your input is better than money! Got me up and running! Too bad I shoveled by hand for 4 hours before I stumbled on this vid. I'm sure it'll snow again and I'm ready now.
Thanks my man. Glad it helped. Hoping for more snow here in the northeast!
Nice! I'm doing the same restore but I can't seem to take apart the front forks? I'm not sure how to take the lowers from the top section apart to install new gaitors and to paint them? Looks like yours just popped out?
I can’t remember haha. One came out with the spring attached, one came out easy. I think I had to twist them to come out? Like I was unscrewing it.
I just looked back at old footage, pretty sure I unscrewed the fork tubes. After unscrewing the collar at the broom of forks.
Torch tip cleaners work great on those little holes
Yes sir. The smaller pilot jet is too small for torch tips. I use speaker wire usually.
Very helpful, thank you very much!
And thank you for commenting!
You saved me too!!!! That little piece was clogged shut. Cleaned it out ....put all back together and it started right up!!!! Yayyyy🎉
Piece of cake. Glad to hear!
What was that loud scraping noise when transitioning from idle to full speed? Pretty sure that needed looking into.
Sounds like a rattle in the clutch. Could be the washer between the clutch and the crankcase. Not anything I’d be worried about. Sounds come through the speakers different than they do in person.
You removed the spark plug, installed a compression tester and turned the engine over to confirm compression. Then you removed the compression tester, reinstalled the spark plug, hooked up an inline spark tester, turned the engine over again to confirm spark. Then you began to address the condition of the fuel and mentioned you’d be working on the carb. During those procedures you turned the engine over twice without checking the oil first to confirm an adequate amount so as not to damage the engine or determine the presence of a fuel leak through the carb by smelling the oil. I would have done the oil check first. Then I would have inspected the fuel in the tank and the condition of the tank itself. Next I would have removed the spark plug, added some fuel into the cylinder, reinstalled the spark plug and turned the engine over. If the engine fired, then in one step I have confirmed airflow, compression, timing and spark. The only thing left is fuel, the one thing you suspected. At the same time that the spark plug is removed for testing, the plug can be inspected to provide an assessment of the running condition of the engine as well as confirm that the plug gap is correct.
Good points. I don’t always show everything I do on a snowblower because the videos would be long. Always a good idea to check for oil, as I always do but wing it ran for 3 seconds by spraying fuel in the intake it wouldn’t hurt anything. The fact that I heard no fuel being squeezed up into the intake took my mind right to clogged main jet. Since I’ve worked in hundreds of snowblowers, it’s usually pretty simple. But you never know, it’s not always the carb. I’ve seen valves out of spec, bad coils, kill switch shorted, electric start teeth stuck in the ring gear, broken rods, wrong spark plugs, you name it. Thanks for the tip!
@@SHONEY21Z You’re welcome! The rest of the video was great, especially the tip about removing the carb with the intake intact. I purchase needle seats in bulk and automatically replace them just because they’re so cheap and so easy to remove and install with the Tecumseh tool. 👍
I’ve replaced them many times and the tool comes in handy for sure.
Just found and subscribed to your channel! Thanks!
Thank you my man. Keep up the good work saving the 🐝
I have a 5 hp one is it possible to put the 8 hp one on without having to change anything else ?
It will probably work. You have to look at the output shaft. Some have a counter shaft that spins backwards. That works on the drive gear and would make the snowblower drive in reverse very fast. If they both have 1 output shaft, it should work. The bolt pattern should be the same. May need to reconfigure the pulleys a little to line up. I’ve put a 8hp tecumseh on a 5hp rototiller with light modifications, I could’ve dug a hole to India after the swap.
Very helpful. I'm not a mechanic but have the aptitude for it and work on all my stuff and enjoy it. Its so nice to have an issue and find a short video to make the repair/adjustment so much easier and enjoyable. Thanks for taking the time to post. subscribed !
Awesome! Thank you! Glad I could help, hope to grow this channel for years to come. 🫡
Do you have a video showing how to set the throttle and governor linkage on a tecumseh?
I don’t. Donyboy the small engine doctor does I’m pretty sure. They are a pain. There are YT videos available if you can’t find donyboy’s
@SHONEY21Z great, thanks. Yeah I read the manual and was more confused than helped...lol. Still a little better than some I've read for Swedish heavy equipment though...🙂
QUESTION; How long do you have to let the blower sit when returning it back to normal? You may even cover it in the video, but in case you don’t, thanks
Meaning sitting back on its wheels? It should only take about 20 seconds to fill the carb. U less there is and issue with the needle, sometimes it sticks and the carb won’t fill with gas, then you’ll need to remove the bowl and needle, and in that case, I would remove the whole carb because it’s likely there more to be cleaned than just the main jet and needle.
You should run for President!!! You just saved me, we just got hit with 10 inches of snow and the blower wouldn't start, thanks to you I'm all set now!!!
Shoney 2028! Glad i could help. 🍻
Just want to say thanks for a great video. Mine was completely gummed and required a full removal, but this one at least got me to the point that it would start. Just wouldn't stay running.
This is good when in a pinch and didn’t get too clogged up. Most times it’s worse than this and does need a full carb clean. Thanks for sharing
Just did this on my 2810 and it worked, except that I didn’t remove the tracks as it seem like much more work than removing the wheel. Awesome, thanks for your help!!
Glad it helped. Thanks for sharing!
You didn’t even try to start it and went straight to the carburetor. It did start and run last week. I would have looked a fuel delivery and spark first, but your the expert
Yeah that was my fault, I did that before I started filming, wasn’t thinking. This isn’t the first time time my dad let the carb get dirty, and he was using it regularly so I was fairly confident it was just a dirty carb. Normally if I have no history of the saw, I’d do spark and compression test first. Try a little fuel into the intake and see if it starts, then I know for sure it’s carb related. In other videos I show the steps to diagnosing non start issues. Thanks for sharing though!
Thats a nice MTD mine is a 97 and never have had any real problems just a well designed blower. Redid mine didnt have to but i try and take care of it since it been good to me plus it helps when you dont get any real snow any more.
Definitely don’t build them like they used to. More quiet and smooth now but with junky plastic, thin metal and paint, and conveniences that often break.
Hope you and your family had a good holidays. We got a cold front coming through down here it's going to get down to 34 can you believe that no use for a snowblower down here
Happy new year! Def son’s cold air inbound. Might be some snow pretty far south.

@@tamimahasan5209 copy and paste. You literally don’t know anything beyond the title and description. Which is wrong
You just saved my asz. I had loosened the jet in the carb but could not get the screw out because the snowblower was tilted onto its chute. I elected to put it back on its wheels which allowed the screw to fall out but also allowed the other tube to fall out. Since it fell out I was unsure of its orientation within the carb. Watching this video helped tremendously. Thank you!
Awesome glad I could help. Happy new years!
Dude, you ROCK! I have the same snow blower in the 24” size that would not start this winter. I followed your steps. I put the blower on its front, (did not need to remove the wheel) unscrewed the carb bowl, removed the two pieces, cleaned them, put it back together and it started right up with 2 pulls of the cord! Thanks for this video, I was just about to tear the whole thing apart and order a new carburetor, but thought I would watch one more video and yours is the winner!!
Thanks man. Glad it worked out. 90% of the time the carb can be saved. Saving you money and usually time. Plus the oem carbs are much better quality. Thanks for sharing! 🍻
Are we supposed to ignore the fact that the other end of the spring was the REAL problem ??
What’s wrong with it?
What caused it? And is it not just going to do it again? Has to be a reason why it malfunctioned. Good video anyways. Thanks!
It could happen again. That lock washer should stay on but it’s a dumb design. If it happened again I would probably get a new lock washer or maybe melt a little of the plastic so it has a lip and won’t pop off.
@SHONEY21Z I've got a Craftsman WS210 pole saw that has been used twice that did the same thing the other day and I haven't had a chance to fix it. I think I'm going to fix it and sell it or give it away to somebody in the family and get me a Stihl.
@@FJBsaidcornpopthat’s probably a good idea.
Plastic pilot? Wow! Must be Chinese!
Happy Christmas.
Merry Christmas!
I would have replaced the needle and seat if I saw it was stuck.
Never a bad idea. If I couldn’t create suction after cleaning I would’ve ordered the needle. But if held so I kept it. I’ll mention that in future videos. Thanks!
Nice job!!! I purchased an ultrasonic cleaner from Amazon and it was the best investment I have made in a long time. It makes cleaning the carbs very easy. Thanks!
They def do work. Usually don’t use one on 4 stroke carbs but I think they are helpful with the 2 stroke carbs with diaphragms
