That depends on the lifestyle, in my early 50's now, if I can get to at least $3K in monthly pension plus at least $100K extra savings for emergency. I doubt that I can get it by late 2025 or early 2026 to retire in Thailand for good.

Malaysia would be the country i would love to retire. Though as a low income Australia worker. The cost of money upfront, is only for the well off. To retire in Malaysia, you must have large amount of cash in a secured Malaysian bank account. A retired income monthly, also if you as a foreigner, need to invest in property ownership of a higher value properties. So not for a lot of average income. Though to be honest, Malaysia is a great choice,if you have the cash 😊

Nice, but I suggest doing one video per topic, with examples. For example, one video just on health care costs & insurance (and examples). Another could be renting (and examples). A big need will be nursing homes as the majority of people in America, Canada, Australia and the UK are middle age or older...nursing homes are expensive AND terrible in these countries! Any options in Malaysia (and examples)?

A budget hotel reminded of my few nights stay strategically located directly infront of the Patong beach in 1999, with wonderful spread of inclusive breakfast buffet, it's just next to the McDonald's. I was overwhelmed by the presence of Western tourists in that area, super crowded. Earlier to that, I actually stayed few nights at Cape Panwa hotel, a secluded private location, a place where Leonardo DiCaprio stayed while filming the movie 'beach' at one of the isolated lagoon at Koh Phi Phi. Hope that you have had a good time and a pleasant stay.

My first time there was 1977 while in the navy also station there several times. I would not recommend living in manila. If a person has never been there they should try living there for a short time before moving ther permanently.

The Silver is a 5-year renewable visa; there's also Gold (15 years) and Platinum (20 years). The silver level requires a 150,000 USD deposit. Program requirements still change frequently so I also recommend staying up to date online and checking with a registered MM2H agent. :)

You didn't consider social security. Also, a conservative investor will average 5 to 6% . Social Security can be auto deposited in a USA or Thailand bank account. Another thing you're not considering is that you will be caring for more than one person. It's usually rare that one person lives alone forever. That being said , one out of two people have zero dollars in savings .Therefore, in reality, one person ends up supporting another person. This is a fact of life. Also, I lived in thailand for 8 years, and I would not describe a budget of twenty-five hundred dollars as luxurious. I would describe it as upscale. Or American middle class. Luxury would be $3500 and up. Usually up 😀 Lots of very wealthy Thais. Just because it's a poor country doesn't mean there aren't many very wealth pepole. 😉

Seems about right to me after 3 years of videos -- the $800 to $1500 is what I heard a lot of - depending on location and lifestyle. I do believe you can have whatever you require or desire - for your budget ! The more you are able to adapt to the local ways of living - the lower your costs will be. One man really stood out @ $250/mo. ! Most really frugal US expats were maybe $600 -- $900. Some were quite comfortable and content on $900 > In the right areas. -?-

What passing tourists do not understand that there is a property floor price for foreigners - foreigners have to purchase above a certain limit - KL is 1million ringgit for example - it does not matter what it says on Numbeo. This is to protect the locals property market and ensure they are not priced out of the market.
