The Key To Living A Simple Life

The Key To Living A Simple Life. There's been a lot of talk about simple living lately. But often it is talked about only in terms of external things. Things like off-grid living or early retirement. This makes it seem like simple living is a destination to be arrived at. Something that's difficult to achieve and that we will only be able to get in the future, if at all. I don't think that this...

One additional point to Johannes' useful points, is It's best to stop eating about three hours before going to bed. That allows plenty of time for your body to digest the last food. Assuming retiring around 12 midnight, 9:00 pm is the cut-off for food consumption.

I just don’t bother to post on it anymore! Just say Happy Birthday! Only like photos of females if a family member or man is in it! Women generally take social media waaaay too seriously to the point that liking a photo can trigger rage or depression in them. I don’t think it’s much of a relationship if clicking on an image can threaten the other person to end it but there you are.

I recently said goodbye to my smart tv and brought in a 1985 CRT tv that I can use to play games and watch VHS and DVDs. I can be more intentional with what I want to watch and the old tv adds a nostalgic vibe to my room. I love that there is no internet connected to it or streaming apps or commercials stealing my attention. I have a 3 year old son and he absolutely loves playing Super Mario on the Nintendo! This has to be the best decision I've made for me and my son.

Minimized my books recently. The thought of it was difficult, but as soon as I started it was easy. Don’t even miss what I sold/donated. Consolidated to a select few that made an impact, and that I actually remember. I can promote each one effectively like a prescription to improve someone’s life. Vs saying “yeah that one’s good”

I just stopped working , I am 60 , my husband is the household provider , I know that is very old fashioned, I cook , clean , do laundry, tend a vegetable garden, I play piano and read a lot and watch my grandchildren a few times a month. Today I made my husband home made bean soup with homemade whole wheat bread, he is grateful that am home . I cook everything from scratch, I mean everything! I used to work full time up to 6 months ago , my arthritis and DDD has gotten too much to do any lifting more than 10 lbs now. I used to own a successful flower shop business (I even owned the property) . I agree on that I am healthier, I go out for a walk for almost an hour every day now . I am very frugal and very minimalist , for long time now , and bumped up my bank account before quitting .

Time is the one resource we can never get back, so it makes sense to put it higher up on our list of priorities. I understand what you're saying here because when I became disabled and could not work full-time I became time-rich/money-poor. Yet there are things you can occupy your time with that cost nothing or almost nothing. Most of us in the developed world have so much more than we need and consume too much. I realised that being time-rich was giving me a happier life than the one I had had as a full-time worker, despite being in permanent pain and being money-poor, and it also gives me a happier life than most of my friends seem to have. I like the values you talk about here.

Really helpful to think that I have a "lifetime max" of books. This made it easier to keep letting go of more books. I almost never reread. It's probably less than 2% of all my books that I will EVER read again. Other than that, they're just decorations that are difficult to pack & move with. Better to let someone read them who can learn something new from them or have their own adventure :)
