How to Pack for Hut to Hut Hiking | Alta Via 1 Essentials

Prior to leaving for the trip, I looked at my gear, loaded my pack, unloaded my pack, switched things out, and repeated that process a few times. Good job
Just found your intro videos. As for video frequency, obviously first do what you want to remember your trip. As someone who follows about half dozen thru hikers per year, I spend about an hour a night on RUclips. Thus daily ones (especially over 5-6 minutes) are hard to keep up with. Every 3-4 days seems to work well (20 minute length) as I can cycle around to those hikers. You are in my pre-season group of one to two dozen vlogger which I will have to trim down based on content once you get on trail.
Thanks so much for the support and encouragement! Whether or not you decide to keep watching my videos, I hope you find an amazing group of thru hikers to follow this year!
❤thank you Jesus for your love Jesus is king and life Amen

@@flippinwithamy3397 welcome along! Thanks for the follow ☺️
For years i was unable to get out and do more than a day hike or a very rare overnight backpacking trip at a local state park. I absolutely loved binging hiking videos and living vicariously through vloggers thru hiking long trails. As a caretaker, i had no ability to get out there, so watching those videos was my lifeline. This year, i am finally getting the chance to thru hike the AT at 62yo. Just know that vlogging can be incredibly helpful to those that cant get out there themselves. I doubt i will vlog myself, just have a facebook page and IG account to keep family and friends updated on my progress, but know that many out there will be highly appreciative to those like yourself who do vlog.
@@jsweevil thank you so much for your encouragement!! I wish you the best on your own journey 🥾

Just found this channel, just amazing scenery and videos. A couple questions for you, how technical would you say the trek is and what did you use to film the incredible shots? We are planning on doing the Tour du Mont Blanc, hopefully this year, but this is now on my list to do as well.
@@markmcb42 thank you! The AV1 has a few technical sections, but it’s mostly just rocky. If you’re used to hiking in steeper, rocky terrains, you’ll love it! I filmed everything on my iPhone for the AV1. Enjoy the TMB!!
This is so cool, I love your images and storytelling! This is also really helpful for me, since I will do this hike with some friends this summer. Really exciting! Btw. which camera do you use for these vlogs! :)
@@yannickme2080 thanks for watching! I hope y’all have so much fun! I used my iPhone for the AV1 vlogs because I didn’t want to carry the extra GoPro.
Thank you for sharing your journey on the Alta Via 1. I am booked for my Alta Via 1 hike with my daughter in June of 2025 (we did the Tour Du Mont Blanc together last year). Do you have recommendations for where to stay the night before and the night after the Alta Via 1? Thank you.
Have so much fun!! We stayed in Dobbiaco the night before (but Cortina is possible too) and Belluno the night after! It’s very easy to get a bus to/from the trail for those towns. And it’s very easy to get to/from Venice!
@@adventure_outdoors thanks for getting back to me so quickly. After I sent you the previous message I saw that you are thru-hiking the AT this year. My wife and I are trail maintainers in Massachusetts so maybe will will see you on the trail (if we are not on the Alta Via 1 when you come through MA)!! Enjoy!

Happy New Year!!! I hope you all are having a wonderful start to the year. I'd love to hear some of your travel or hiking goals for 2025 ✈🥾
We did a Norway trip this time last year and spent three nights in Tromsø and finally saw the Northern Lights on our last night! We also did dogsledding and snowmobiling. I think we must have gone to the same place….we had the soup, etc after in the hut. We did the troll museum, the cable car and the brewery! Fun! Did you try the reindeer hotdog? Such a magical country!! (And you are so right…..no one does breakfast like Norway!)
So awesome!! I didn't try the hotdog, just the reindeer stew. It wasn't as gamey as I was expecting. Norway is definitely a place I hope to return to and do some hiking!
This is so awesome! You saw polar night!! I do want to experience it sometime!!!!
Polar night is so, so unique. I loved the coziness of it ✨
@ my bucket list is to visit barrow, Alaska and experience it!!
@@adventure_outdoors Sorry ....but I have to break it to you that you're carry around on a misconception concerning "polar night". Tromsø does NOT have polar night ....at any time.... Tromsø is located at 69,7 dgr N latitude. The southernmost limit for polar night is just under 72,5 dgr N latitude. Hence polar night does not appear anywhere on the Norwegian / Scandinavian / European mainland / continent. The definition of polar night is that it is dark 24 hours ....as a minimum for one day ...the shortest day of the year 21.Dec ((normally ...it can be 20. or 22.Dec) ...and for the northern hemisphere) The only place in Norway that can lay claim to polar night is Svalbard ....where the town named Longyearbyen (world's northernmost) is located at 78,2 dgr N latitude. Tromsø do have daylight for 4 hour and 22 min on the shortest day of the year. So when you stayed in Tromsø you must have observed daylight.....hence it is not darkness / polar night. To say it simple your mouth must follow what your eyes and brain observe....that there are daylight....right....
@ yes, what you are explaining is specifically nautical polar night. Tromsø does not have that where it is complete darkness 24/7. However, civil polar night (also just called polar night) is the concept of the sun not rising above the horizon. This is the version Tromsø experiences and that I’m referring to and what the people there would refer to. The polar night in Tromsø they say is between the 27th of November and the 15th of January. Hope this helps!
@@adventure_outdoors Well...well....well.... There are also those who "define" the earth to be flat. Whoever gave you the idea/"definition" of polar night you post are actually in the same category as those flat earthers. They really don't know to much what they are talking about. I'm not gonna repeat my previous post ..but I can add that I happen to be from the Arctic ...and live "up there". I also happen to be a scientist on these things ....so I do know a thing or two about these subjects. I have given you the scientific, the ONLY and the correct definition of polar night. It is a universal definition and is valid whether you are at sea or on land. That the sun goes under the horizon does not mean polar night ....that is just nonsense. I register that you have lifted your answer up on top ....but really you just celebrate and show off your lack of insight. You're not willing to listen and learn ....well....something I've to often experienced that knowledge isn't the first thing people are looking for ...so there isn't much more I can do to give the insight .......at least I tried.....
Dog sledding was literally a dream come true! Such a wonderful trip!
Such a bucket list adventure. I'd go back to Tromsø and Copenhagen again and again!
Such a beautiful winter wonderland! Happy New Year to you all 🎉
