Cardinal sin number one: Never adjust the studs without removing the tension from the Floyd. Grooves cut into them and you will notice a click and it goes out of tune. Only titanium studs can take adjustment under tension. Also they make two tools (the key and skyscraper ) to put under the fine tuner/saddle to properly adjust the intonation 🤟. I've been pissing around with these since 1988 😂

    • @letsbuildaguitar9230

Well that’s because I tried to first not sand any of it by counter sinking the top washer. But even though I carefully ran the drill so it wouldn’t pull up on the wood, I still got some chip out….and that’s what I needed to fix

I would definitely use a block underneath the tail of the bridge while restringing it. It'll save you the whole tuning it, retuning and retuning it over and over again. Definitely loosen the string tension before adjusting the bridge posts. There's a tool for about $20 that's made specifically for a Floyd to do the intonation which lets you get completely exact with that process which is great. Lastly you can put the strings in backwards from the tuning keys on the headstock going back towards the bridge and that works great except for the high e string usually which you will need to string normally to avoid it snapping at the ball end. Excellent video though brother

BRAVO JOB WELL DONE WITH GREAT CARE I have to hand it to you. You are extremely thorough, intelligent, with a mild mannered delivery of all the information and all the knowledge. After all these years, I have most of this stuff down pretty cold. However, you can always learn more....someone always has another trick or a tool or something and I appreciate people who work clean. I'm amazed, how dirty and unkempt the workspace is how much inherent vrisk there is with some guys who don't protect the balance of the instrument from damage when they're working. Easy Does it.... Speed kills ‼️ Think your way through every project and treat the instrument with respect. Even if it has a lot of wear when you're working on a guitar is not the time to add wear to it......

Floyd approved trems will all have 3 adjustment intonation positions for the Floyd saddles. You missed the key trick with Floyds, you leave the springs in and block it in the back to keep the trem perfectly level while you're working on it. It essentially turns into a hardtail and completely eliminates the hours of frustration people go through tying to balance it. You then do the typical relief, action, nut triage, then intonation, and finally at the end, you leave the block in the trem, then very slowly start loosening the springs at the back until the block falls out. The block with be tilted ever so slightly forwards, but just retune it and it'll balance out to perfectly level. Boom perfect Floyd rose setup in under an hour. Any tech charging extra for Floyd setups either has no idea what they are doing or are gouging.

Some of the anchors available have got oversize slots and use adjusting screws to get the anchor in just the right place. Also important to get the distance from the nut correct, else you will experience intonation problems. I ran into this problem with a very good top of the line Squire, perfect in every detail, except that the bridge was set too far from the nut and two of the individual bridge pieces were contacting the hold down screws. The complete bridge and tremolo had to be moved forward by about 2.5mm in order to correctly intonate the guitar.

One trick is to use a damp rag or paper towel. Slightly moist .. not wet at all .... and run it back and forth across the fret and a tiny bit of moisture will seep just under the fret lip ... this will really reduce chipout a lot .... especially if it's a super dry fretboard that no one has ever oiled.. It really makes a difference.... try it next time you start to see chipout when pulling frets .. But remember "slightly moist" ! Warm water ... Not wet... It's usually the really dry fretboards that do the chipout.. that's why they chip ... Or the luthier before you glued them in .... instead of repair the fret slots..
