Steve's Bikes
Австралия
Добавлен 9 ноя 2019
If it has two wheels, i'll ride it. Join me as I travel the world on my bikes. I ride the Australian roads on a BMW K1600 GTL, I'm off road on a BMW F850 GS Adventure. In New Zealand I ride a Suzuki V-Strom DL650. I also ride the trails on my Giant Anthem X II mountainbike to explore the Australian bush.

I normally don't do product reviews, however as I have damaged my hearing by not using hearing protection while riding, I'm keen to evaluate options and spread the word about how important it is to use hearing protection.

Good job. If you think the Nav VI is fiddly, the new Navigator Connected Ride is a nightmare that I took back. I will be going towards the Zumo now. Thanks
The 3DAM didn’t last, the connections got interrupted. I’m just using the Zumo out of the box insecure connector for now. I need to remember to turn if off and take it off the bike so it doesn’t get stolen. Painful. Cheers
Steve there's a pigtail cable you can buy that plugs straight into the old nav plug and wires straight to the garmin unit mate !!😊
Oh great wish I’d know earlier, thanks though
I could easily solve all your hearing issues but my solution may be too expensive for you. When im driving my bike 200km/h i have the volume just half way and i can easily hear the walkie talkie no issue at all
Wow. When I’m starting to think of “upgrading” for a big adv bike, I watch this video. I’ll stick to my first and only DR650! 💪🏼🤣

When you start to loose momentum on going up, don't press the clutch!!!! Let the bike stop on purpose, and the gear will help you not to fall back! We always learn, be safe out there everyone
really terrific video and commentary, thank you for posting this. I've been riding road bikes and the lighter enduro type bikes for years and am considering getting an adventure style bike, and your video was extremely helpful Kudos to you for sticking it out with your larger BMW and watching your skill sets improve. Hope you are still riding and will continue to post stuff like this. Really well done😃
Thanks mate I really appreciate the feedback. Cheers

Wow u guys need lighter bikes man. Ya'll got suckered by the big heavy mamoth adventure bike fad by BMW n now ya'll spend time offroad crashing at simple stuff which an Xr250,xr400 or Drz doesn't even bat an eyelid to do.
Hi Steve's Bikes can you please do a review of the Dirodi rover gen 5 plus 2550w
Any idea where i could borrow one from?

Thank you for your excellent video. I like this motorbike rack very much. Are there any Australian requirements for park/brake/indicator lights and number plate to be attached to this rack if your tail lights and license plate are partially or fully obscured?
I have a trailer number plate on the rack but no lights
The section you labeled deep sand, made me giggle and my own stupid self. Last year, before I got 50/50 tires, i went off roading in deep sand with street tires. XD Was am experience i tell you.
Yeah, I bet, cheers
Hi Steve 🙌 I’m Alain, 60 years old from Belgium 🇧🇪 I use the Mavigator VI since 2018, and I never have a problem with it ! Maybe you were unlucky ? Now I’m looking to remplace it by the new Connected Navigator, but I read on internet a lot of problems with it n So I keep my Navigator VI Thanks for the video ✌️ And ride safe ✌️
Thanks Alain, if I was unlucky it happened 4 times! Ride safe mate, cheers
Hello and thank you for your review. Was looking to purchase the GT Air 3 and considering whether to get the SRL3 and your review helped (not worth the cost). However, something that you might be interested to try out is the newer ear plugs (Loop and so on) which offers to filter out (lower) the wind noises and allows music through. I've recently obtained the Loop Experience 2 and found that it helped a lot (at least for me). You might want to check it out with your SRL3, might allow you to hear better at higher speeds.
Yes, I have switched to Alpine. Also Scena mesh communications is very good, loud and clear. Cheers
it looks to me like they are trying to get footage for the video!
as someone with a lot of dirtbike experience, roadbike experience, and owner of a suzuki dl1000xt, in my experience big adv bikes are just road bikes with long travel suspension. dont fall for the marketing, they handle like shit off road, regardless of mods. just get a mid size or big single road registered thumper. 🍻
Dr650.. just get one. Saves all this crap
Now I don’t feel so stupid for dumping my DRZ400 on the rocks in a steep downhill ravine 2 weeks ago and separating my shoulder.

wonder when people will realize that the GS1200 and 1250 are not for that type of road. and usually it's older people who drive them who can't even walk properly.
Ha ha yeah that’s us!
With 65 years old just around the corner, I am thinking of giving up my big Road Glide for a Pan America, and keeping it mostly on the street, but a few dirt roads - nothing too serious. A bit nervous about the change, but time is short and I miss riding in the dirt like I did more than a handful of years ago.
I’m only going to do easy dirt on the 850 as I’ve hit 69. I do go on dirt trails weekly on my Talaria as it’s a part time job. The Talaria is very light weight though.
Thank you for "completing" your video with the "Two weeks later" part, I wasnt going to change it right now, but I changed my mind.
Ha ha yeah I nearly got caught and always carry a spare battery
heavy bike + dirt + inexperience + less physic = no fun 😞
I'm almost fifty years old, and this is my second year riding motorcycles. Does the bike's weight matter? Absolutely! Heavier bikes are more challenging. But if you practice, practice, and then practice some more slow-speed figure eights (it took me about four months of constant practicing), you will teach your brain to instinctively throttle up gently when you feel like falling. You will also teach your brain to shift your weight on the bike to counterbalance without realizing that you are doing it: riding the motorcycle on uneven terrain becomes like walking or running. I have a DDX, and after practicing on a parking lot for four months, I rode a GS 1250 all over backcountry roads in Costa Rica for a month. That was my first time off-roading. I didn't fall once. Thank you to all the RUclips motorcycle channels that taught me how to balance the clutch!
Happy adventures cheers
hats off to you big adv bike guys, I will stick to the lighter dual sports and dirt bikes. Those big bikes are just so cumbersome in tight slow areas and when they come over they break bones easily.
You should show us loading an actual motorcycle on it!
My F850 GSA is over the weight limit
Watching what not to do is every bit as important as any training vid.thanks steve.
Glad you enjoyed it
I thought noviçes were supposed to start on smaller less expensive bikes!!! They are totally clueless!!?
Continuez a emmenez des grosse bouses en TT sans savoir conduire ça va remplir les hôpitaux
Heh heh. So essentially it's taking the most unsuitable whale into the dirt to see how long you can keep it upright?I have been riding for 40+ years and this stuff really raises a giggle. The biggest (heaviest) dirt bike I was comfortable on was an old XR 500 Honda. Not particularly nippy but fantasticly reliable. In fact for this stuff I would pick just about any other (than a "adventure bike") dirt bike including a TM 400 or Honda CT 110 🙂
On previous Nav6 I turned the mounting bracket 180deg moving the unit forward to help with a tank bag.
Selling top-maintained GS. NEVER off-road, no fall over or accident Driven and cared for by retirees
52 yrs old bought a 2024 klx 300 in may. Back to riding after a 25 year break. Love it but my ass hurts. If i had a do over i would get a versys x 300 instead.
Good Advice. My Brother & I have ridden many different types of bikes. More recent in parts of Asia & we realize we have more fun on a smaller bike. We've both put a deposit on the CF Moto 450 MT. It will hopefully be the good combo of an adv/dirt bike & lightweight.
The only thing bmw riders don’t upgrade is their tyres! 😆 man that sand and mud looked like tiring work on the big beasts with karoo3 tires on all this bikes!
good on ya Steve, keep on riding!!
Thanks, will do!
Really good talking points
Thanks for sharing Steve!
Thanks for watching!
You wanna ride in this kind of environment, You need a dirt bike, not a tractor trailer ridiculous.
When you get into your 60s its about fun as you don't have to prove anything to just have fun😊
Looks like the worst made bike for the intended job.
If you've never ridden off road and are considering buying a big adventure bike, consider buying a cheap 250cc trail bike first, and getting some dirt experience on a bike you can manage far more easily and can usually drop with no damage at all and can pick back up all by yourself.
I'm 60 plus and that is exactly what I did
It's so demencial riding off road on very heavy bikes! All of them think they will ride off road at 180 km/h and confortable... Lol! That's so crazy!!
If you want to go off road DO NOT BUY A BIG HEAVY motorcycle. That is just plain stupidity you will hurt yourself and wreck your expensive bike. Don’t be fooled by the bullshit marketing crap and your ego. Get smart and then you’ll enjoy your off road riding and be safer FACT
Any particular habits or mistakes you made that caused you to fall the most?
Basically a beginner on a large bike
What year bike, Steve?
That was filmed late 2019 not my bike
i have the newest sena srl in my gt air 2... its nice but i need it to be louder. after 70mph i can barely hear it. if someone goes from that to the new srl3.. please let me know if it is any louder. thanks
Oh man this should be mandatory viewing prior to purchasing anything over 180kgs 😅😅
The bike is too big for you. Honda Transalp wich is low enough would do the work perfectly.
Great video and great advice, I love the little electric bike. and the central theme: scare yourself, but in a safe environment. Or at least, safer!
G’day thank you, cheers
Is it their first time riding these bikes?
G’day, several of these were filmed on our level one beginners training course.
