DAMN! I thought I was the only one who talked to myself. Thank you for sharing that. I thought there was something weird going on. I also sing to myself making up strange songs. I only ever sing on the bike. No one wants to here my voice or else I might be committed to a never get out hotel. Also, a big thanks for your sharing the techniques on different surfaces. Invaluable info. Thanks and keep safe.
Steve well done for putting an effort to record theses videos and share your leanings and adventures (good and bad). When you get older and have a bit of a break from riding (20yrs) you realise that body and mind are not always in sync and need all the reassurance you can get even if it comes from yourself. I am also new to this offload riding game and ride solo a lot in remote areas so if I didn't talk to myself I am sure I would've turned around many times. I do talk to Bill (my bike) too just so people think I am not weird 🙂
No Steve I haven't got to the talking to my self just yet 😆😆.At 63 i still have the same attitude when I raced bikes and only stopped about 3 years ago. What I have noticed over the years is that most people are ditching the big heavy bikes for more light weight and bikes that are easy to manage .
Look up, let the bike do the work. We all think we are smarter than the suspension because we don’t understand physics properly. All bikes with modern suspension will go in the direction you point them. If you “choose” to steer them in the direction of an obstacle they will be compliant. A little speed helps but it’s very much a confidence game with weight shifting that keeps it all feeling good. I’m no expert and talk to myself all the time but I’m improving. I’m in the age bracket too but have been following for quite a while now. Welcome to the new subscribers.
In off pavement areas, I talk to myself all the time; out loud, and constantly. Actually, on the pavement as well. It really helps as it seems that I can more easily pull out the things I need to remember about body position, head and vision, speed, hands off the front brake- whatever it needs to be. So yep, I'm a noisy rider. Great vid with great riding scenes. They were really helpful.... along with the play-by-play narration.
Hi, Just found you and your channel, I think your content is perfect for the improvement of skills in the older ADV rider, without sounding like a training manual. My own fledgling channel has some similarities, although it's mostly about how biking of all kinds and mindfulness go hand in hand, to safer and better biking experiences. All the best.
Good idea to get extra feedback by talking to yourself. I find it especially useful when I am tired. I always say the color of traffic lights as a double check.
On my training, my instructor said, don't go on the grass, it's wet and slippy. So of course I looked at the grass and I went on the grass and fell off. Flipping instructors😂😂😂. Next time I just said, don't brake, don't panic, just keep going. I was fine😊 I also say, head up look where you're going. You don't drive a car looking at the bonnet. Well...some people probably do😂
Hey Steve . I don't talk to myself I guess I have the voice in my head thing always going on. But I just wanted to give you a shout out of praise for your videos which I have enjoyed for some time now since dipping my toe into the GS adventure world. I'm booked into a BMW off road training course in February so I'm looking forward to that. Keep up the great work on the video mate. Perhaps our paths my cross one day.
„Look ahead!“ „Let the front wheel find its way!“ „Keep the momentum!“ „Breathe!“ „Relax.“ That’s the conversation I (64yrs) often have with myself - some times spiced up with the occasional expletive... Works well for me!
I find myself swearing to myself just before it all goes pear shaped…
Talk to myself, i even answer myself and have a full conversation on and off the steed.
Ha ha thanks Peter

Thanks mate I’ve just subscribed to yours. It has taken me three years so far and my channel is still growing slower than grass. Cheers
