      Doing the full hike for both trails in one day would be quite a lot, and is not necessary. You definitely can do both in one day. However, you don’t need to do the whole trail on seceda to see everything, the best view is from the gondola station.

    Great video, enjoying your channel! We are headed to the area and looking for a good beginner via ferrata. Would you say this one is TOO easy? We don't have any real climbing experience (we did one guided via ferrata in New Zealand that was very easy) but are in good hiking shape. Don't love heights but don't freak out with them. Just wondering if you'd say this has at least a little "spice"/exposure or if most people around were just treating it as a regular hike.

    • @trailtalestravel
      @trailtalestravel Месяц назад

      There were definitely some people doing it without any protective gear, the via ferrata section can be done without a harness if you aren’t afraid of heights. But I would recommend this trail anyway simply because it was so enjoyable. I would say a little spice was definitely there.

There is also a campsite in Rathen, from which you can take a boat across the river and walk right into the park which you may find more convenient. Regrettably most of the Levadas are not near where people live, so getting a bus directly to a trailhead is tough. I spent some time looking into this for you and didn’t see anything that jumped out. However, you can still enjoy this hike - you can take the 56 bus to Santana (about an hour from Funchal) and then take a taxi the rest of the way. It’s busy enough in the summer that you should have no difficulty in getting a taxi back to the bus stop for your return journey. The staff on site at Parque Florestal das Queimadas should also be able to help call one for you if needed.
