THE GREAT BIG UPDATE! | A Year of Renovating Our 1930s Bungalow By The Sea
It's HERE! The full summary of everything we have done so far in this renovation journey with our 1930s Bungalow By the Sea in. one. video.
Wow... we did a lot in our first year!
We started 2023 by stripping out and peeling all of the layers of each room back to bare brick. To the point where we didn't have heating, electrics, lighting, ceilings, or even a level base flooring. Fast forward a year, and now we have underfloor heating, lighting, and electrics, a new screeded base flooring, ceilings, and plastered rooms. I could go on!
Bring on all the creative projects and decorating in 2024; Plus we will finally be moving in this year!! I already know 2024 is going to be a good one!

Autumnal Vibes, Bungalow Updates & What's Next? | JCB Tools #gifted | Renovating Our 1930s Bungalow
Просмотров 95010 месяцев назад
BIG. BUNGALOW. UPDATES this week! We are going through a real juxtaposition here in the Going Home household. Back in early August, I started feeling very autumnal and ready to get the candles out, make the most of our cosy blankets and start slowing down. Whilst I still feel like that, we are pushing our renovation project forward; making lots of noise and mess, but most importantly, making pr...

On December 19th 2022, my husband, James & I picked up the keys to our 1930s Bungalow and started working on the property straight away! Every room has been cleared and completely stripped back as there were so many things bodged or badly fitted. Ultimately leading to issues like rotten base flooring and extension ceilings, dangerous electrics, and a serious lack of water pressure. As you can i...

One of the first things we thought about when purchasing our 1930s Bungalow By The Sea last year was how we would change the current layout, and make this property our family home. We obsessed over the floorplan; figuring out how we would turn it from a two-bed into a three-bed on paper, as well as make it accessible and future-proof. Hey Sarah! Thanks for commenting! We still have the apartment but the viewings are now starting to pick up which is a great feeling! Renovations are very dangerous haha but also therapeutic. We’re really happy knowing every surface and inch of this property! In terms of James’ legs, this is going to be an ongoing recovery process especially when he is dealing with his muscle-wasting disability as is. He might talk about it later in a video but it’s completely up to him!

    Did you keep any original features?

    • @GoingHomeDesign
      @GoingHomeDesign 4 месяца назад

      In terms of ‘original features’, there weren’t that many to begin with as part of the property had been crashed into during WW2. We have kept the real wood flooring that was in the large living room space, but dado rails and skirting weren’t in great conditions sadly. As we’ve also widened the doorways, the original doors won’t fit. Moving into this next phase, we are eager to bring back the features that should be in a 1930s home! But for modern day living! Will the period features be original, no. But equally we want to do the property justice!

    Hey. I really like all your ideas. But they seem a little bit random. I think the best interior designs work when all the rooms speak to each other and there is a clear theme throughout. I guess your main colour is green? But not sure on style? I would maybe be a bit more consistent with this. Colours can be used in different proportions and styles mixed but there should be a common element throughout imo! Just food for thought

    This might be a silly question, but I'm not British even though I live in England so I don't know much about this. But do you need any special permission to do the bond fire in the garden?

    • @GoingHomeDesign
      @GoingHomeDesign 5 месяцев назад

      Not a silly question at all! Our bungalow is thankfully in an area where you can have a garden bonfire but it’s common curtsy to your neighbours to 1. Only start a bonfire at a time when it’s not going to cause a nuisance for your neighbours; drying clothes, summer days when they are enjoying their garden, etc 2. Only burn things that aren’t going to create a lot of smoke. We only burn wood! There’s probably more info online but that’s what I know!

    Is that homemade clay, if so can you please share your recipe??

      It’s not homemade (it’s Das) but after doing some research, it looks somewhat straight forward to make!

      @@GoingHomeDesign I've tried several porcelain clay recipes, they are good for small, light pieces. I'm just trying to figure out a recipe for air dry clay to do large pieces that aren't going to fall apart on me. About ready to give up on this clay craft.

      @@jellusbox I’m sure you’ve already tried this but just in case you haven’t already, have you tried building first with foil or polystyrene and then put the air dry clay around that?

      @@GoingHomeDesign I'm trying to make yarn bowls, can you do that with those? I'm thinking I'm going to have to coil them because I just can't get the slab ones to stop collapsing on me and I want a little neater than draping it over another bowel. And porcelain clay isn't good for bowl making is it? I guess I just need to buy a box of Crayola and give up on making my own clay for now. Thanks so much for your help! I really appreciate it!

      Making a coiled yarn bowl will look more designed too! Don’t lose hope; keep experimenting with the different clays with the coiled method! No worries lovely
