      @DrMatJ Месяц назад

      Background information, rationale for the study, hypothesis, aims and objectives, methods, results, and conclusions which will include summary of the data, broader picture, and future implications :) keep the text to minimum and try to include more figures/tables to illustrate your points :)

    To finish off my degree, I need to do a presentation on my lab work dissertation (Using snapgene to find suitable restriction fragments, and creating plasmid bacteria and seeing if they exhibited increased acid tolerance) Do you have any advice on creating an excellent presentation?

    • @DrMatJ
      @DrMatJ Месяц назад

      My preference as a supervisor was always to have less text and more images/brief bullet points. Your role there is to talk the audience through the process of creating the plasmid rather than make them read how to do it. We are looking for a logical flow, clear presentation, eye contact, and confident voice. Like any speech, you need the beginning, the middle, and the end. Beginning and the end should really be only one slide long each. You will not gain extra points for making it pretty or eye catchy. It needs to be clear with lots of white spaces. We love white spaces and we just want to listen to you explaining things rather than reading off your sides. We also don't want you to simply read what is on the slides. A lot of students just read which doesn't prove that they understand the topic. It just proves that they can read. You need to talk and help yourself with images to illustrate things, rather than let the presentation talk for you. Does make sense? An excellent presentation is not so much in the slides but in the way you present the information yourself

      @Sheena1234ization Месяц назад

      @@DrMatJ Thanks for all of this. Do top marks tend to come from critical thought? i.e What research I would do in the future/How I would do my project again if I could?

    • @DrMatJ
      @DrMatJ Месяц назад

      @Sheena1234ization you got this right, but it is not enough. The presentation needs to run in a perfectly logical flow. In general, all students add evidence of critical thinking. Evaluation of the data, future directions, broader picture, and links to research done by others. What really makes an essay or presentation stand out is the flow. All of this needs to be organised logically, and the transitions from one section to the next need to be smooth. How are they smooth? Because they make sense. They are logically ordered. It seems trivial but it is rarely accomplished. The best way to make sure that you got it right is to present your data to lay audience and then ask them questions to see if they understood it. If they didn't, you need to rephrase

    thank you - there are a lot of tools - but sill the best results I get when I put full-texts as a part of prompt and ask questions. New LLMs have big context window and you may analyse full-text with high accuracy with minimal hallucination (95-100% accuracy).

    How do they compare to ChatPDF, SciSpace and Kahubi? What do you think

    • @DrMatJ
      @DrMatJ 3 месяца назад

      Right now, ChatPDF will only allow you 2 PDFs a day (free version), SciSpace free version is great for a quick overview of multiple papers but it will not go into the nitty gritty details, Kahubi is great and very versatile but it will allow you to create outputs up to 5000 words a month. So they are fairly limited if you want to go into details and ask a lot of questions. On the other hand, explainpaper has unlimited number of highlight explanations, powerdrill will let you ask 200 questions (so potentially 200 papers summarized) a month and finally, openread is quite limited with the number of actions you can take but it does provide loads of information and will easily exceed Kahubi's 5000 word limit. Personally, I'd use all of them depending on my needs. If I am just trying to understand one paper, then ChatPDF and Kahubi or Openread is more than enough. If I want to analyze 20 papers in detail in a single evening, then I'd go to explainpaper, powerdrill, and Kahubi or Openread. If I want to have a quick overview of lots of papers, then SciSpace. I hope this makes sense!

    Dziekuje bardzo! I knew you are polish - the "look"/"patrz" gave you away :D This video is really helpful again. I'm finishing my thesis now these next 2 days I was hoping you would show how GPT4 is maybe capable of doing what HIX can do by just a few more prompts. Especially because GPT4 and Claude3 are much better in terms of writing. To be honest, the perplexity/burstiness prompt is already from over 1 year ago. I remember using it when ChatGPT started around Dec22 or Jan23 something like this. I'll definitely check HiX, but my time is running 😂

      Haha dzieki! :) good luck with your thesis! Yes, the prompt has been around for a while but it looks like it stopped working in the last month or so. Regarding the GPT4 and Claude3 Opus, yes they are better at writing but also pricey. However, any prompts, once out in the public, will not last long just like GPT3.5 prompts. The AI detection platforms will eventually catch up, but I'll have a look and do a bit of research on this :) What's your opinion on all of this?
