CHASSERAL RIDGE HIKE - the BEST VIEWS in the Swiss Jura mountains accessible to anyone
Have you been to Chasseral yet? Then what are you waiting for? On a clear day this place will give you amazing views onto the Swiss Alps, Jura and the region of 3 lakes: lake Neuchatel, lake Bienne and lake Morat. You can easily get there by bus (operates on the weekends and public holidays) or by car. We loved this viewpoint because it is accessible to anyone! You can just stay at the Chasseral hotel for a drink with a view, or walk on a paved and stroller-friendly path to the antenna or hike even further on the Chasseral ridge trail.

SWISS GERMAN or GERMAN? Which one do I need when moving to Switzerland?
Hi .. Which French should we learn, if we want to move to Switzerland, is it the native French or Swiss French ..🙈🤔
They are almost the same, so there isn't really a specific course for Swiss French. You can learn the standard French in any French language school and then you'll pick up the local phrases when you live here. 🙂
Thank you so much for doing this video! 🙂
You are so welcome!😊
Hi, You are very knowledgable on this topic! May I ask how you know all this? I would like to learn more regarding canton Zurich specifically since I am thinking of starting an app allowing people to help each other recycle. Thanks in advance! Mathias
Hi That's a great idea! I read all the information on the website on our commune. They also gave us some brochures. Also some things you just learn from others who have lived here for longer.🙂 Good luck with your app!
If Lidl and Aldi have lower prices is because worker conditions are much much worse. But there only if you’re ok with being complicit in the erosion of workers rights and cooperative Swiss culture (Migros and Coop are both cooperatives were much better worker conditions and real power held by workers)
I’m an international student, and I’m looking for a flat for 5 months. I will be coming with my wife as well. What is the best way to find a flat at a good price?
I am not very well informed about the short-term rentals, but sometimes people advertise them on Facebook marketplace or anibis. Join a local Facebook group where rentals are advertised and post there saying that you are looking for a place for 5 months. Also try the UMS website I mention in the video. It's also worth asking the university you'll be studying at if they have any way of helping you. I don't think there really is a best way, you just have to try all the different methods and hopefully you'll find something.
The Swiss language situation is called a "diglossa". Two closely related languages used by the same population for distinct purposes. Always very fascinating.
That's an interesting information, thanks for sharing!
Swiss German varieties are definitely a language in their own right, the difference between 'language' and 'dialect' being a very gray area. Alemmanic varieties are as different from Standard German as Dutch is, for example.
Dear lady,i have seen a lot of videos about the high cost living in Switzerland. So why you think you still live there? I mean the reason you don;t choose a cheapier country?
What about renting with a dog ?
In some apartments it's allowed, in some not. You have to ask in advance.
Hi Erika! How can I get a room for two people? We are a couple. I don´t know how to investigate that. Thanks you.
You mean to rent a room for 2 people in a shared apartment? Sometimes these are advertised on anibis, comparis, homegate or similar rental websites. Another option is to post in a local Facebook group saying that you are looking for a room and seeing if anyone is searching for flatmates/housemates. Then there must be some websites specifically for renting a room or finding flatmates, but I don't what they are. From a quick look on google, here are two websites that I found - www.roomgo.ch/ and www.roomlala.ch/ .
@@OurSwissAdventure thank you!!
Thank you for your video ❤ is the basic insurance the same in all Swiss health insurance, for example, possibly to enter a hospital.
You are welcome! Yes, basic insurance has the same coverage. Each insurance company has a description (usually a table) that shows in a simplified way what a basic insurance covers.
Socialize with the Swiss😂 you may learn some small talk about the weather, or what mountain did you ski last weekend😅
Hello! Very good video, thanks. I was just a bit surprised that there was no issue for you staying longer than 90 days whilst waiting for the permit? Or was that because of covid ?
I don't really know to be honest what the rules are about waiting over 90 days in the country to get your permit decision. Technically I needed to be in Switzerland, because they were sending the decision letter to the address in Switzerland with my name on it. And once I got the letter, I had a limited amount of time to physically present myself in the office to get my permit. I think normally you wouldn't have to wait so long for the decision, but as you suggested, because of covid they just closed their eyes to it. It was a pretty unprecedented situation after all.
ende Gelände swiss immobilien
Then which one is neccessary to go first in order, simcard > address > bank account > .. or address > bank account > ... ??
I would say, first, sim card and address (temporary or permanenet). Then permit application and bank account. Then health insurance.
I am in a hospital room now. If you pay extra 200 CHF per night, they give you a single room. If you pay 2500 CHF you have a luxury room and luxury service as far as I understand, but einzel room is good enough if you wanna stay alone. All nurses were fantastic and compassionate. I was lucky. The food was fine although I did not have appetite.
Thanks for sharing your experience!
You were lucky it took for me 5 months to get the right diagnosis, I could not walk from 9th of December to my surgery on 17th February. Thanks to God, Schultess has really good doctors.
Oh wow, sorry that it took so long for you, but good that eventually it happened!🙏
I'm very happy to see you up and around after your nasty accident. I write this as I sit here with my 4th and last installment of a seven-day heart monitor. Yes, my (many) physician(s) here in Switzerland are still looking for a cause for my minor stroke. In the meanwhile I've been thinking about you and of your recovery. In kind regards. Gregory
Thank you for your kind words, the recovery is in fact still ongoing, not sure it will ever be fully over, but that's just the way it is. I wish you a good recovery and I hope the doctors figure out the issue!
@@OurSwissAdventure You say, "but that's just the way it is" I agree, it is probably best to accept rather than be resentful. Anger and frustrations will only cause another problem - The long term psychological trauma after we've long sensed have healed. Ok I´ll never move to Schweiz. Thank god for the swedish tax system. Diabetes type 1 care is free in Sweden. Free insulin, needles, glucose meter that i put on my arm. Free telephone support. Only pay 5 dollar for a blood test every 6 months. Sure i would be homeless, dead by now if i lived in America.
Thanks for sharing your experience! Here taxes are lower but then you have to sort out your own healthcare through insurance, etc. I guess the tax rate in Sweden is quite high?
@@OurSwissAdventure Yes we pay a lot of tax but we don´t need to have a complicated insurance system. In USA people have to sell their house to afford treatments. even with insurance it can cost a fortune. Having high tax is a good thing when we know everyone can afford to go to university ...good healthcare. Somewhere to live when we get old
Thank you, very informative❤️
You're welcome!

Hi, thank you very much for the information. I still have a doubt related to finding a shared room. Do you need a residence permit to find a room for a year or do you need to find a temporary room where you can register yourself and from there start looking for a more permanent room? Thank you very much.
If you are looking for a room in a shared flat (if that's what you mean by "shared room") this could actually be easier that trying to find a whole flat for yourself. I don't see why you can't have it as a permanent place to live. Why do you have doubts?
If i have no working contract because i am still searching for jobs, can my bank statement act as something like income?
I don't know if they'll accept it. I think it depends on the agency. However, you can definitely try using it to show that you have enough money in your account to pay for the flat in the next few months. You can also explain your situation in the motivational letter.
I want to go
Great video. As a UK citizen i love being in Switzerland as much as possible. I would say the lack of willingness to change as a culture and pander to globalism is what gives Switzerland its charm, i personally love the country most for its strong identity. The UK is a mess and has no national pride or identity.
Thanks for sharing your opinion! 👍🙂
Great Video! Thanks for sharing these useful information. Your video raised a question for me: in the eventuality of being responsible for an acident, who pays the other person's medical bills? Is it me or my accident insurance? Does liability insurance apply in these situations?
That's a good question, I don't really know. But based on the personal liability insurance page from Axa, it seems like it would be you liability insurance that covers all costs related to what happens to others, even medical issues. www.axa.ch/en/private-customers/offers/property-living/personal-liability-insurance.html
It’s like Doric. Same language but very hard, if not impossible to understand.
No no no im sorry but healthcare is DEFINITELY better in Switzerland the NHS is a complete mess
How much house cost to rent there
Prices can vary a lot depending on the area. To get an idea you can check one of the rental offer websites, for example, comparis - www.comparis.ch/immobilien/default
@@OurSwissAdventure pour la famille, combien ça coûte ?
hey just wanted to check because it wasn't quite clear, you were not required for a language certificate? It was enough for them to show that you are studying? Thank you! Hope you got C by now!
No, that wasn't required for me. To be honest I am not sure if the language was a requirement at all. But I am not sure about the rules for others. We did a poll among the couples we know, where one person was coming along with the other one that got a job here and it seems like in some cases some form of language proof (certificate or course was required). But there was seemingly no consistency across the data we collected. The language knowledge was required a bit more often for the non-EU people. Still with a B, have to wait a little longer to qualify.
@@OurSwissAdventure thanks a lot!
No offence but it’s difficult to understand the young lady. She speaks fast and ends up mumbling. 😮 the lad has better enunciation. Good luck taking the real test.
Hey, I came across this video. Super useful 😊. I just had a couple of questions. I am currently a non-EU citizen and my wife is siwss. We both are outside switzerland , studying and planning to move to switzerland. I am currently looking at what could work best to start working immediately, or an academic career, perhaps in research. Do you know if applying and getting into PhD or postdoctoral positions would constitute towards a resident permit for me, or would finding jobs be a better bet ?. Thanks :)
Hi! I am not sure on that. But if your wife is Swiss I wouldn't worry too much about the permit situation, since you should be able to get it fairly easily whether you do a phd or get a job. Finding a job here, depending on the job field, could be quite difficult, especially for a non-EU person. You might have a better chance finding something in academia first (phd or post-doc) and then getting a different job afterwards.
omg where did you guys go? 😞
Hmm regarding learning swiss German as a German im not sure. Somewhere I read, that as a native German, swiss people dont like it when Germans try to imitate or adapt swiss dialect. It sounds awkward and then its better to just speak high German instead of a bad swiss German copy. Change my mind :)
Considering how many different stories I've heard at this point (both from the comments and from friends), it seems like it very much depends on the person. For example, some say that speaking High German to a Swiss person is fine. But then I have a German friend that is convinced that Swiss people don't like speaking with her both because of the language and not liking Germans.. So who knows! Do you have any personal experiences in this matter? :)
@@OurSwissAdventure Not really, only my first and only visit of Switzerland last year in Lucerne. Was surprised how friendy every Swiss person was to me as obviously German guy. Had a great time. What a pity that there are some people with negative attitude to the other country in both directions.
Wow the surgery cost isn't even as high as I would've thought. I had an ACL reconstruction surgery in Singapore with an allograft (a bit more expensive) and the total cost was 40,000 SGD, which is about 27,000 CHF at today's rate.
Wow, that's expensive! I hope the insurance paid for that one!
@@OurSwissAdventure Luckily they did, otherwise would've been cheaper to fly first class to Europe and get it done there in a private hospital :))

Hi guys,my sister lives in Geneve and above her is a man who came to her door and tell her she speaks too loud,my sister she's keeping weekly a lot of online conference, what she can do in this situation,is there a low in swiss that not aloud her not to speak loud in her apartment?
As far as I know there is no such law. If her calls are during the day, then that man can't really have anything against her. As for what she can do about it, I am not sure. I wanted to suggest putting down some rugs on the floor to absorb sound, but the man is above, so I don't think that would help.
Amazing video ❤
Thank you!!🙂
Hello,I genuinely love switzerland and I will take swiss citizenship in future. But as an non eu/efta citizen it much more complex case. So can you make video like what is procedure to get c permit and any fasten process without marriage and investment route like some people say that you might get c permit in 5 years of residence in switzerland even if you are non eu/efta citizen, and non married to Swiss national if you are well integrated in society, have clean records, never opted for social security, passed tests that show your knowledge about switzerland geography, history, politics, constitution is commendable, and your language proficiency is also quite good and if your graduated from Swiss University and work in technological/important fields the authorities might grant you c permit in 5 years then in more or less 2 years conversion into citizenship if everything goes fine .so I want clarity on this. Please make a video about this it means alot ❤.
Hi! Unfortunately, I don't know very well the rules for C permit and even more so for obtaining the Swiss citizenship, since we haven't gone through this process and neither has anyone we know well enough here. So whatever information I could give would be based on the internet pages available to all. I had a quick look and from this website it does indeed seem that even a non-EU person can get a C in 5 years. www.legalexpat.ch/swiss-permit/permit-c/#:~:text=The%20Swiss%20C%20permit%20is,to%20work%20as%20an%20independent. They also have this page on naturalisation - www.legalexpat.ch/swiss-permit/swiss-citizenship-naturalisation/ If you need advise on getting a C or a citizenship faster, I would really recommend you to speak to one or several of these : your local "contrôle des habitants" place where you apply for permits, your cantonal migrations office (these are the guys that actually create you a permit), or try to find a legal advisor who knows migration laws (I know this will cost some money but they know the system throughout and might be able to give you tips that you won't get anywhere else).

Hey need your help wanna come to Swiss how to rent a hoise
We looked for an easy hike and took your recommendation for oeschinensee. I should’ve noted down the details, because i forgot about the gondola 😅. We instead walked all the way up. Maps were misleading too, as they told us it just takes 1hr 10. in the end it took us 3hrs up and it was so late we had to go down already. On top of that the lake was frozen and there was snow all over. I would recommend everyone to use a hiking app to plan the routes and check the weather beforehand 😅 but I learned from that.
Oh no, sorry about what happened! I guess it was recently, since the the snow is still there. Plus the gondola only runs from May. These hikes are for summer/snow-free weather.🙈 Using the apps is a good tip. Also I recommend checking the webcams for the snow situation.
Do you have any recomendation of hiking apps?
this is a good one, how would you rate denner vs coop vs lidl
Good question. I've been to Denner maybe 5 times in total, so don't know it very well. But it seems like it's trying to be as attractive as Lidl in terms of the prices, but overall it doesn't give a great impression in terms of the shopping experience and choice, comparing to Lidl.
Why is it during first year? What happens if it’s been already a year after moving?
Those are the rules they have set. This is the information from the official website ch.ch: "You need to exchange your foreign licence for a Swiss licence; this is still possible after the 12-month grace period, but you may have to pay a fine." I have a friend that exchanged it beyond that 1 year period, and it seemed to have gone okay. I think if you get caught driving with the foreign license and it's been more than a year since you officially moved here, you might get in trouble and have to pay a fine. So I wouldn't risk it.
I have a similar experience with Swiss healthcare. It's been just over 5 weeks since my accident causing a nasty knee injury, not from skiing but from walking. I slipped on a small patch of ice on the road, and down I went! Very nice locals came out in droves upon hearing my screams of pain. An ambulance showed up,took me to a nearby spital (hospital) where x-rays were taken, given crutches and was told to go home. I was told I had no broken bones. While being fitted for my new crutches I had a mild stroke. I was flown via air ambulance helicopter to another hospital. Here I was given an MRI of my brain - no sign of blockage - the task was on to search for the cause of the stroke... my heart was given an ultrasound - cardiologist found no fault in my heart, in fact they told me my heart was perfect. Again the search for the stroke continued on. I was given a 'seven-day' monitor to wear. Again, no fault was found regarding my heart. I was given medication for my heart - the general practitioner still believed the stroke was caused by my perfect heart. I'm still in the hospital for four weeks. My knee was given an MRI after I was told to do weeks of physical therapy to be told I in fact did have a fracture. Granted, not a complete one but two hairline breaks, and was now told to not get out of bed, and that I might possibly need surgery. Two days later while waiting, I was told I did not need an operation. I was sent to another medical center for physical therapy treatment. Regarding a knee brace to stabilize the injury, I was told I did not need it. After asking a few more times for a brace one was given to me. In all my overnight stays I found it very difficult to get any sleep, for I had roommates who snored loudly and some of them passed gas (farted) throughout the night. I wish I was joking now but I am not. Aside from this, nurses came in and out of the room once every hour to check my blood pressure. Every morning I was asked, how did I sleep? Six weeks later, I'm still recovering from the knee injury. Time will heal - Mind and body. My advice to people walking in freezing climate were possible ice can form on road surface... *stay indoors until late spring, or purchase clip-on, strap-on shoe spikes!*
I'm so sorry for what you had to go through, such a crazy story! I wish you all the best with your recovery journey! From personal experience, I really recommend you to pick a physio that you like working with and develop a trusting relationship with, because that's so important in your recovery journey. I've had quite a few different ones, and you can really see the difference between the crappy lazy ones and the ones that actually work with you to get you to feel better. Yes, black ice is no joke.
@@OurSwissAdventure Thank you for your reply and for your valuable advice! Ironically my number one reason for leaving America, the nation of my birth to live here in Switzerland was for its better general quality of medical practices. The United States will ALWAYS be my home which I love dearly - except its medical services are held hostage by the greed of the pharmaceutical industry and politics which I believe I will never see any change. This is not my first knee injury, this is now my 8th. Three on the left, and five on the right. Thanks again Erika most sincerely for your advice regarding physical therapy ❤🩹 - Gregory ps, I got a sense of your frustrations in video of hearing of your experience. My sympathy here given in return!
I have ha car driving licence and commercial driving licence in Portugal and i am now citizens Portugal. please give me suggestion this commercial license is valid in switzerland??
I am not sure sorry. I suggest you to contact the transport service (the one that deals with driving licences) of the canton you are planning to drive in and to ask them this question. For example, in Neuchatel, this service is called SCAN www.scan-ne.ch/
