    A 20 year mortgage on a boat!? who does that? Do the interest payable over 20 years, compared with profit then take away depreciation. There is a giant hole in the ground.

I am a licensed caption, licensed to be a better caption for my friends and family, not for an income source. I have been running a 43' Hatt SF for about 12 years. I would consider selling her if I moved into the 65. What organizations would you recommend for charter management in the Miami/Lauderdale area?

      I'm not really sure how to respond to this as it sounds like an op-ed or personal journal entry but I don't disagree but as a broker I deal with this constantly. we call them "low ballers" or "bottom feeders" and this guy is no exception. These people will drag you around town and look for the most unrealistic deal ever and won't buy until they run home laughing to the bank. it's annoying and frustrating but these people exist and it's part of being a salesman. Trust me i've gotten into fights with people over it and have lost "potential customers" but my friend in real estate told me they weren't going to be good customers anyways. In this business you want to find customers that want the best quality and the best experience and are willing to pay for it. The bottom feeders are just bad people and are basically the same as the Ferrari renter that can't afford to put gas in it. This is actually a big part of what we call "qualifying". Once you're seasoned enough you can deal with these people by basically just not dealing with them because they are a waste of time. They won't buy anything unless it is a "steal" and frankly i have really rich clients that I would give that "steal" to before these losers. Hope that makes sense.

    The biggest waste of time is buying a boat For charter you don't need a captain license to do a bear boat charter anybody can buy a boat and do charters people don't know how to operate a boat you will put a lot of hours on the engine the boat will depreciate people don't put money back into the boat to keep it well maintained slow season comes you have to give away the prices just to make money to pay the Marina every time you book a charter your toilet is getting clogged people don't care they throw papers they don't take off the shoes in 2 months your boat will look like s*** 99.9 of the boat owners don't have a logbook on board the day you sell the boat it's not worth nothing marinas hate charter boats here in Miami there are hardly marinas available you will have a lot of rap and hip hop guess they will destroy your boat will smell like weed less than 3 years your boat will be listed for sale😢😢

    • @MrYachts
      @MrYachts 3 месяца назад

      @user-tz9vj7lc9h, I understand where you’re coming from, but I think there are a few misconceptions here. First off, it’s illegal to be the captain of your own yacht under a bareboat agreement. You absolutely need to be licensed to run a yacht for hire, or it won’t be insured. Running a yacht is a lot more work than just driving it. A lot of owners don’t realize this until things start breaking, which is natural given the harsh marine environment. Unless you’re talking about a boat under 50 feet, your comment is pretty misleading. Also, the idea that “99.9 percent of boat owners don’t have a logbook” is simply not true. I’m a licensed captain with a 200-ton offshore license, and I’ve sailed across the Atlantic twice. Every yacht I’ve been on had a logbook. I get that you might have this perspective if you’re not a captain, and yeah, unlicensed and untrained people often have a tough time. Your experience is valid, but it doesn’t apply to everyone. And by the way, everything depreciates-homes, cars, planes, even money. So saying yachts depreciate isn’t a fair criticism. Let’s try to share accurate information and have a productive discussion.

    • @MrYachts
      @MrYachts 3 месяца назад

      there's no right or wrong way to get into sales of any industry. It's a matter of converting your network into sales. for example I know a tennis pro who left tennis and turned that network into yacht sales. I know a golfer who did the same thing. I started as a chef. I know many captains that became yacht brokers. Going to work for a brand is a good start. Not sure what you currently do but it's not like you wake up one day and say i want to be a yacht broker - it's a commission-based career and very difficult. I can't teach you how to be a salesman but you could go to some local boat shows near you and get to know people as a start. good luck.

    That's it? Did he buy it o what? And GulfCraft makes good looking yachts but like Ben Mallah went to go look at one, I think this one before the refit and apparently it had mold and all sorts of things wrong with it. I loved the GulfCraft 140' and then the 180 was amazing. The Nomad series is also pretty cool. Imagree with your client though, 8.2 would be the maximum I would offer for that. Considering that brand new they are around 10 or 11 now? But anyways, they need their yachts out there too considering Cheoy Lee, Conrad, Admiral, Azimut, and Mengi Yay are putting out some very attractive yachts lately with some attractive prices for under 125'. Even Bering redisgned their 125' to have an owners and a charter configuration. GulfCraft was the rage 2 years ago with the 140. Now??

    How much commision for the yacht broker ? Like you sell 10m yacht’ So How much u get ? Thanks for answer

    • @EuroGuy85
      @EuroGuy85 3 месяца назад

      "Usually" (because this all depends on who, where the yacht was brokered), the first 10 is calculated at 10%, the next 10 mil at 5%, and every other 10 over at 250k. So, a 30 mil boat, the brokers split 1,750,000. But, brokers work for brokerage agencies, and they have different splits as well. So, the 1/2 of 1,750,000 has to be split between the broker and his/her agency, sometimes 50/50 and as low as 20/80. If you are a broker working for an agency that splits the commission 50/50, you get a quarter of 1,750,000. But smaller boats, usually between 5-10% of sale. Just go to Northrop and Johnson, they explain everything.

    • @MrYachts
      @MrYachts 3 месяца назад

      that's the million dollar question. It all depends as It takes a lot of work to market and sell a $10m yacht (or any asset). Commissions start at 10% gross and go down from there. What I mean by that is if the yacht is listed for $10m and the buyer offers $9.5 the seller will often negotiate the commission down so everyone meets in the middle. Example seller counter-offers with $9.75m but with a 7% commission to the brokers to split. So instead of $950k we end up with $731,250 which gets split 4 ways between the two brokerage companies and then to their respective brokers. in this example each broker would get approximately $182,812 Gross commission and then have to pay expenses and taxes. The broker should pocket around $150k from that sale. If the deal is done in-house (meaning the broker represents both sides of the deal) then I've seen commissions go down even further since the seller doesn't have to pay two sides so that 10% could end up as low as 4% on a $1m deal split 50/50 with the house and the broker inw hcih each party would make approximately $200k gross minus taxes. Should I do a video on this???

    • @MrYachts
      @MrYachts 3 месяца назад

      yeah that's a good rule of thumb but i'd like to note that what you wrote above is referencing the MYBA (Mediterranean Yacht Broker Association) rules which applies to the first $10m and so on. In the USA we abide by the IYBA (International Yacht Broker's Association) which used to be called the FYBA (Florida Yacht Broker Assoc.) which basically says that sellers won't pay (brokers won't charge) more than a maximum of 10% in payable commissions. However these are all just guidelines and anybody can make any deal they want amongst parties as long as all parties agree to it.

    There is a big difference between flag state and where the actually ownership of the vessel is registered. They can be two different locations, flag is governance of the yacht and the owning person or entity can be another location which dictates taxes and crew etc... its key as it not only effects taxes & charter regions you can operate in but also which nationality of crew you can hire. Unless you are only operating solely in US waters, I would never flag or register it in the US,. Firstly your crew choices would be limited and be way more costly...but it also affects your ability to charter in the Caribbean etc etc which is very lucrative. Also if you want to use it in US territorial water then you could go with a flag like Marshall Islands which has a permit to operate in US waters.

    • @MrYachts
      @MrYachts 3 месяца назад

      yes it's possible to do what you're saying but it is rarely done which is why I didn't mention it as to avoid confusion. Generally speaking you wouldn't register your boat in cayman and flag it somewhere else. you also wouldn't flag it in cayman and register it in florida. so, the flag state is basically the country where the ship’s registered, and it decides the laws the ship has to follow, like safety rules and crew qualifications. but sometimes ships get registered in a different country to get tax breaks, more privacy, or easier rules. the country where it’s registered takes care of all the paperwork. there are deals between some countries that let a ship be flagged in one place and registered in another, mostly for international shipping stuff. even if it’s registered somewhere else, the ship still has to follow the flag state’s laws on safety and other things. shipowners might do this for lower taxes, fewer regulations, or better legal protection.

As with any business you have to choose the right asset to rent out. I'm not sure what kind of yacht you put to work but it sounds like whatever you had was competing with a lot of similar yachts. I'd like to mention, and I will make a video about this, that there is a HUGE scam in Miami in the day charter market. It's actually disgusting how the so-called "brokers" who are actually grimy club promoters, hustle the owners which turns into a race to the bottom for price. 🚨🚨🚨 This ultimately stems from owners being too "smart" and "greedy" when they buy the yacht and choose to be independent instead of choosing a "central agent" or a broker to handle the marketing, pricing, and inquiries. Instead I here a lot of owners say "I'm not signing an exclusive with anybody" and then they end up having to deal with all of that on their own AND work on the flat rate model instead of the commission based model. I never understood this mentality and if you were one of those then yeah I understand why you had a bad experience because you had no idea what you were getting yourself into.

    Never forget, brokers are just commissioned sales persons.

      not sure what you are trying to get at... idk about you but I spend each morning walking up and down the docks of my. local marinas, scour the web for recent listings, constantly analyze the market, and know what the best deal is for my buyers or my sellers... I do this for free. free meaning in the event that I bring a buyer and seller together and am able to negotiate terms based on the aforementioned, I get paid based on the success of the deal. are you implyingour that yacht brokers get paid for no reason? because that's what your comment implies... let me make it very clear to you, not all yacht brokers are the same, there are some that work very hard to produce sales. it's very easy to say in hindsight that a broker wasn't needed but I spend every waking hour of my day focused on yachts. NOBODY can out negotiate me. the best you could ever hope to do is meet me halfway. that's how I EARN my commission. I want you to read that again because every time I walk through a marina everybody on every single boat says hello to me and tells me the industry goodie because that's part of the job. IDK what you do but I can guarantee that I work harder than you. If you don't believe me I'll prove it to you.
