I bought one about 10 years ago, and after less than a month of light usage (watching RUclips videos, basically), it died. I also tried another similar device that ran Android...and that one, too, died after about a month of basically watching RUclips videos. I stopped buying them after they both died. I'm not rich enough to keep buying these things.

The one and only time I used Compute Sticks was in a previous workplace where they had two TVs they wanted as callboard displays. They had them struggling with the stock Windows 10 and would take literal years to boot up. I wiped them and installed plain old Debian on them. Had it auto-log in, start an X server with Chromium in kiosk mode straight to the callboard webpage. And it struggled doing that, too. But it would at least manage it within like two minutes instead of two decades.

I would like to have a Mac like that, but that Atom processor speed seems ridiculously slow in comparison to an iPhone or a Mac mini M4 (less than 5% of the speed). Does at least it have Bluetooth?

Very interesting, but friend, use msi afterburner or something else to see fps, and dont forget about overclocking :)

thanks to the advancement of technology they can try again make a compute stick as the motherboard of a steamdeck is near that things size

This device included Windows 8 with Bing (Single Language 32bit)... Let's say it's the only version that works correctly with that thing... I have the original drivers and firmware in case someone is interested

Oh i had one of these (by lenovo). They came with 32 bits uefi and windows (which discounted). You can install 64 bits OS tho with some grub tricks (i got 64 bit mint linux running). Everything about the compute stick sucks, their wifi interferences with their bluetooth (i tried all bgn and frequencies, non works great. Keeps dropping packages and very slow), intel atom with 4 (or 2?)gb ram can barely run anything (gpu also cant handle 1080p video playback (you can see amount of frames drop with stast for nerds), and fan is always running even on idel. It is just batter than having no computer at all.

I almost bought one. I wish there was a new version of this. Quit buying computer stuff and fix your smoke detector!

The worst thing about most Atom PCs including these compute sticks is they loved to shove 32bit UEFI with CSM stripped out. They did this even with Atom CPUs that support 64bit! This means Windows 8 is the oldest OS you can put on them. Win7 only had a 64bit UEFI ever made and forget about Windows XP. So Atom machines are pretty bad if you want to try and run retro OS's on them. :( I'd mainly wanted to run Win7 on my Atom netbook because 32GB emmc would be more then enough. Even with a base Win8.1 install I am low on space on my 32GB netbook. :P

You have to install Windows in wimboot mode on such a low storage device. It captures the install into a read-only image (4gb) and the updates are overlayed, kinda like how openwrt and other embedded linuxes work from the eeprom and a sdcard/ram filesystem on top of it.
