I Bought a Semi Truck for How Much??? Starting RV Transport
I just viewed another rv transport yt channel and he said the boards are empty. What’s your experience with the amount of rv’s available to transport.
There's a lot of factors. Was this other guy single pull or multi? Even the biggest and busiest of carriers can slow down. It's a constant balancing act to not lease on too many drivers, but still having enough to move freight and keep contracts. And there are definitely slow periods as well. I experienced this at Foremost Transport in September. I was one of the too many drivers leased on as we went into a month with manufacturers' shows and little freight. It was the first time in all my years that I had to delease and find a different carrier. It all worked out for the best in the end, but it's a real risk in the industry.
@ it was a channel that the guy was so many transport in that he could use the load boards himself. He was at wave originally. I’m not sure if he left.
Comen senes
Unfortunately common sense isn't so common these days!
@ oh yeah I know I work in a lumber mill
Are those full fenders required on a multi-haul tractor? Putting chains on would be a challenge. Keeping an eye out for you on I90 in Montana. I enjoy your videos. Thanks.
@MTN406 Sorry for the late reply, I swore I typed up a reply on the day you asked. They're not required, but I won't run without them because of the risk of damages to the load. If you have vehicles overhanging the front, or trailers on the stinger, you could get a rock chip damage claim. They are cumbersome but not impossible to chain up with them. Eventually I'll get a nice set of chrome dual fenders that will be slightly easier and look better. Lastly, some carriers have a no chain up policy. Meaning if you're loaded with campers, you need to park and wait it out. I tend to agree, if it's bad enough that you need chains, then you need to be looking for a place to park.
Don't pass that Pam truck be careful😮
Hauling camp just got hit by dot and had to drop a trailer
@ruston723 He sure did. I had just filmed this the day before he got popped and yet there's still people trying to say it's legal. We were just getting a lot of lucky leeway for years in Nebraska. It's unfortunate that a load can leave Indiana and be legal or illegal depending on what state you drive to next.
@CrossbuckRVTransport funny we are the united states but from state to state the laws change crazy
the shipshe i got the guy said dot made him cut it off i think he had extended it
@ruston723 Must have been, unless it a really old one. They've been doing 53' trailers with a removable center rail for years. Gives the driver the freedom to stick an extra 6' out or pin it all the way back and be exactly 53' overall.
@CrossbuckRVTransport its a 2016 i think it was an extra brace that was welded on it
TRUMP 2024
With the traffic a cb might help you in the long run to find out about what going on
So sad story kind of, when I pulled it out of my last truck I dropped it by accident. I never sent it out for repairs because my railroad truck had a radio in it. But when I came back to this, I sent it out for repair. Based on the tracking, it should be waiting for me at the house and be ready to run again. Also I know what happened. The 511 services are more reliable than getting someone on the CB today sadly
@ oh okay
Well said
Great job putting the whole thing in perspective. As a Billy Joel once said: “The good old days weren’t always good and tomorrow ain’t as bad as it seems” As a side note, the US is currently the largest oil producer in the world and oil prices are nearly as low as they’ve ever been. Still fuel prices are above $3 pretty much everywhere
Just imagine where we would be if we weren't restricting our own operations. It's easy to see the dip in production in 2021 and 2022, but I'll give Biden credit because he did restart leases for drilling and that has pushed us back to the top per country.
TRUMP2024: Make Trucking Great Again!!!
Nice. I live right in that area and work down the street
Must be tough to see all the cool trucks all the time lol. I just hauled another one and had to resist the urger to drop it off at home
@@CrossbuckRVTransporti see them occasionally test driving them around the area. They look pretty cool
Thanks for your input
Another great video Connor. Thanks again for your hard work producing it!!
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it and always great to see your comments!
My wife and I run team. We are leased to Synergy also. We did some backhauls this past year but now we decided not to as we lose 2 days just to load and unload. In that 2 days we can go from our house in Northern Utah to Goshen and load and be back on our way west. We wont go norteast or south. Our runs need to be over 1000 miles in order for us to make money. Our equipment has no debt so we only worry about our fuel cost. We run a 2019 Pete 567 and our average mpg is 8 so we are happy with that. Ive noticed in the last 2 months that there isno freight for the first half of the week, but freight starts appearing on Wed or Thursday. We will run until the middle of Dec then we shut down until Mar 1st. Ive been driving for over 40 years and its time to let the younger whippersnappers have that enjoyment of winter driving. Keep smiling
@daviddhulst1513 Thanks for the comment David. I won't spend more than half a day loading and unloading backhauls. But as a solo driver, it doesn't take much for me to tack on even a single vehicle to cover fuel back. Like the van in this video, it was enroute to Goshen, took 35 minutes to load and 15 to drop off. So in less than an hour I got $325 extra on a route I was already taking. But I see where you're coming from. If I had a team driver and could be back to Goshen in 2 days or less I'd probably race back empty as well. And as for winter, once this trailer is paid off in 2 years, I'll probably take off most of it too. I don't mind driving in the snow, it's the other chuckleheads we share the road with that have me worried. You take care and drive safe out there!
Cheap magic erasers and a little water. They clean bugs off a windshield easily!
@SC-hb8vs Thanks for the comment! I'm partial to a can of bullsnot window cleaner, but I'll have to try that truck some time!
You're right to list all damage to cover your back side, how ever small the damage list it , people will file a clam to get you fix it or get free shipping
Another great video. I drove a twin to that truck for a while. Though it wasn't as nice as yours. Thanks for the info and all the effort. Dan
Thanks Dan! I'm not sure I'd call mine nice, maybe one day it will be. For now it gets the job done at least.
I can’t stand driving thru Erie!
Same here. If it ain't traffic and wrecks it's all the damn troopers camped out in the 55mph slow zone
Great video takes me back 5 years when I had my haul & tow. How are the loads looking for numbers and available loads? Really thinking about getting back into it.
Thank you! And things are "interesting" right now lol. Since switching to Synergy I've stayed busy but I'm not able to be picky about where I run. But things are starting to pick back up for the end of the year push before the winter shutdown. Having the election over next week will help too, no matter who wins.
great video about rv hauling and backhauls
Thank you!
I made it to the end, Keep on Truckin.
Thank you! And thanks for the comment. Stay safe!
Looks like better gig than slinging grease on the OC Bridge.
@emknapp6713 Idk, that was always one helluva view up there lol. But at least here when things get slow, my "boss" won't lay me off
Get a towmate wireless light bar and hang off bumper of rear trailer then you have no overhang
That's not how overhang works unfortunately. Even if it did, the lights on the trailer work when plugged in and are way better and more reliable than a tow light bar. I like your line of thinking, we used that logic to get away with a lot over the years but they're cracking down now. States like Nebraska are 53' max, even if you have lights.
@CrossbuckRVTransport yes you still leave the trailer lights plugged in. Overhang is measured from taillights. If they only allow 53' you would be limited to a ~32' trailer
Overhang is measured from the tail lights of the trailer, not the camper. We used to get away with that. But DOT has made it clear, even when lit up, overhang is measured from the end of the trailer or trailer pull outs. And the 53' refers to trailer length and loads. Meaning Nebraska does not allow 53' trailer to have any overhang. Exceptions are made for oversize loads but they will no longer issue OS permits to us because it is a divisible load. Washington is the same way, but they've been enforcing it for years so it's well known at this point.
@@CrossbuckRVTransport never said to measure from the camper taillights. I said move the trailer taillights to the back of the camper then there is only couple inches of overhang. Have never been able to get over length permit for divisible loads. If your not allowed any overhang passed rear of trailer you just hang it off the front of the trailer. If you load first trailer backwards you can get all three in with nothing passed rear of trailer
@NTM2009 so either reading isn't your strong suit or your just intentionally ignoring what I said. Nebraska is a no overhang state. That means no front or rear overhang. I'd stick to whatever it is you do haul (if anything), because you don't know this stuff. Thanks for the comment, maybe you'll learn something if you stick around more.
As a motorcyclist, I can tell you I have seen some very unprofessionally secured loads on the trailers of supposedly "professional" haulers and have very little faith that every trucker who hauls a load like this takes the time to secure it as you have. I wish they did as you obviously understand the ramifications of a load like this leaving the chat.
Thank you for your comment! I agree, unfortunately, there are a lot of "professionals" out here who either weren't taught the right way or are too ignorant to do it the right way.
Good video
Thank you and thanks for the comment!
@@CrossbuckRVTransport your very welcome that was me that commented on your picture on Facebook a few days ago
I figured eventually someone from the group would find these videos. I just didn't think it would be so quick
Where do you put the propane tanks at?
I used to secure them to the deck with tie down straps, but lately I've been wrapping them in moving blankets with the jacks, and storing them in my side box. It's personal preference but I think it just makes the trailer look cleaner for DOT and the customer.
Connor, another great and informative video! Never seen this done before and it really is interesting! Details are so important and your experience with these triples shows it. Thanks again, safe travels!!
Thank you sir! This was the video I wish existed when I first started hauling triples. Thankfully some of the carriers are now teaching drivers how this is done, but hopefully this will serve to teach those who had to figure it out on their own like I did
I just signed on with Synergy .orientation is next month !
Congrats and I wish you the best of luck. And if you're ever at the office or yard and spot me I've always got time to chat with fellow drivers
Could you get an OVERLENGTH PERMIT or is that too expensive?
Some states allow it but most are starting to deny the permits because it's a divisible load. In the eyes of the DOT, if 3 won't fit on the trailer, we should only haul 2 at a time. Meanwhile other states aren't even concerned and allow up to 4' rear and 3' front overhang.
I " Stayed 'till thenEnd". Quick concise and informative. Can you plug the last trailer's lights into your trailer so the last trailer reflects tail / turn signals? How about a tow truck wireless setup ?
There's a 7 way plug near the rear of my trailer before the dovetail, where I can plug in the rear camper, and it will be lit up. So no need for the wireless lights. Plus I've always thought it looks cool having it lit up on the trailer
Would love to see a more thorough video of your semi that you got for that awesome price. You’re an inspiration man keep going!
Thanks for the comment, it means a lot! I'm not sure this old truck is worthy of a full video just yet. Maybe once I get some of the fun upgrades done instead of the preventative maintenance I've been doing 😅
@@CrossbuckRVTransport no problem and sounds good man! I know you said you bought it from a local company. How did you come across it for sale?
@aaronandhayleyskinner3249 Facebook Marketplace of all things. I always tell people if your wife says you buy too much stuff on FB marketplace, remind them at least you didn't buy a semi yet 😂
@@CrossbuckRVTransport haha 😂 yeah no joke. I like the “yet” that’s in there lol. Thanks for the response man.
We have been with Synergy for three years. We paid cash for our trailer. Only 37k with 4 toolboxes and front pullouts only. Yes we have a single axle but, like you said you don't need tandem axles in this industry. We don't like Shipshe as our first trip out we lost one hub and all the components associated with that hub. We were stuck in Wisconsin for three weeks waiting for Shipshe to get their shit together. After they sent the hub and wheel assembly out, they refused to send the wheels. We had to have the shop doing the repair travel to Michigan to pick up new wheels for us. We will never do business with Shitty trailer again. If we need to purchase a new trailer, it will be with Kann Manufacturing. Good luck.
@daviddhulst1513 Sorry to hear about your troubles! I have been through hell with some older Shipshe trailers, especially those made around Covid. I have always liked the design and features of Shipshe. Never a fan of their service but they have the best trailer. I did look and I see Kann is now offering essentially a knock off Shipshe even with air ride. That may be a part of why Shipshe (finally) stepped up their quality control on the new trailers.
Sweet looking trailer. Thanks for the walk-around!
Beautiful trailer with everything you need to be successful!! Very happy for you and be safe out there!!
@harrydaniels7994 Thank you sir! Always appreciate your kind comments!
You should get your own authority. You have truck and trailer. That’s the biggest hurdle to get over starting your own authority.
@jodywiseley At the time of this video I was leasing the trailer from my carrier. My new trailer is a lease purchase and will open me up to that option someday. But the carrier I'm with now is one of the best in the industry and going independent would not benefit me anytime within the next decade I'd say.
What year is your international? Love those! Had 2 of them. Roomy on the inside. Had 1 with N14 redtop and other with a cat. 9200 and a 9400
@chrisbelsito4231 She's an 07, and I agree definitely roomy inside and with the CAT C15 pulling light freight I can hang with the best of em on the big road
Great content and delivery , We have to elevate your desire to provide more hopefully in the form of a podcast. I will be the first to support the studio monetary fund . #letsgochamp
@theardindustries1 Thank you sir. Although with how busy Synergy is keeping me, the only way a podcast might ever work is to set up something in my sleeper or in the truck stop parking lots at night!
The videos are great. Glad the move was worth it. Looking to get inro the RV transporting business. Does Synergy have a tow away division? Would like start with my 3/4 ton Ford. Do they have single haul trailers to haul? Who should I talk to for more details.
@pineridgegarage Synergy absolutely does tow away. I don't know if they're leasing on anyone right now, best thing to do would be call and talk to recruiting. Also I'd recommend checking out MotoZaye here on RUclips. He does single pull tow away for Synergy and has some great videos!
Thanks for the info. Yes I have seen his videos.
Thank you for that great information!!
I appreciate the videos man. I live just 45min south of Fort Wayne and drive a trash truck right now. I used to haul steel coils but I am an entrepreneur at heart and have lusted after the RV transport for years when we visit shipshewana and see all the transporters. It’s really helpful to see another young guy giving it a shot and giving real info. Keep it up!
@@aaronandhayleyskinner3249 Thanks for the comment and kind words!
Congrats 👍 Do they make these for a 3/4 ton? 😏
Thank you! And yes they do. Shipshe makes a gooseneck style that can be used with pickup trucks without removing the bed. It's a lower GVWR, electric over hydraulic brakes instead of air, and can only haul 2 campers instead of 3. Personally, I don't recommend doing so for a number of reasons, mostly due to the wear and tear you'll put on a 3/4 or 1 ton pickup, but I understand not everyone has the means to go out and buy a semi. Starting small is better than not at all
@@CrossbuckRVTransport Heck I was just kidding, but now you've peaked my interest LOL 😄 No no I wouldn't do that to my new truck. If I do make the move, I plan on taking it easy & stick to bumper pulls for awhile. 33 years of OTR & I'm itching to get out of this truck & try something different.👌
@warren7127 totally understand that! My buddy and I were just talking yesterday about how we miss the single pull life. One day when my kids are grown I'll switch back to the easier freight 😅
Cool. I've been thinking of getting back into the business. I can buy back my old haul & tow. I'll be watching all your videos to keep up to date on the state of rv transport
I would give anything to buy back my old H&T but it's in good hands staying busy. Since you've been watching I don't have to warn you, it's still a little rocky coming up to the election and end of the year shutdown but it could be worse lol
Glad it worked out and I didn’t steer you in the wrong direction haha get that bread💪🏽
It has been great, I'm staying so busy I barely have time to edit new videos 😅 Now we just gotta get you to come to the multi side!

Love your honesty your voice is so calming you explain everything very intelligent so glad I found you be safe God bless❤
Bennett is the better one out of the bunch
@@iam4ouru10 Definitely is for some people. But there's things they do that some drivers are not fans of, like the lack of air ride trailers for lease/LP.
@@CrossbuckRVTransport well like everything you have to sort the pros vs cons
I appreciate you putting this video out and sharing the info on it. Very helpful for making informed decisions for the future. Thanks! Dan
@user-iu2yb7dd3d Thanks for the comment Dan! I'm glad this helped and I wish you the best of luck on those future decisions
So do you get a lot of back hauls? I’ve heard that you almost always have to dead head back
@godsok1 Backhauls are the driver's responsibility and vary drastically depending on where you deliver to. I would say close to 75% of the time I can find a backhaul that I'm willing to do. It may only be 1 vehicle or it may be a full trailer of cars. Sometimes I will come back empty rather than haul cheap freight. You'll never get as much hauling cars back because the market is oversaturated with car haulers and that drives the rates down. So to answer simply, there's plenty of backhauls but don't plan on every time being a high paying trailer full load
I like your delivery of content, " I Liked and Subscribed".
Thanks for your comment and thank you so much for saying that. It really means the world to know you all are enjoying this too!
Can you do a video on who you’re leased on to
My 2nd most recent video goes over being leased to Foremost Transport and why I left. I am working on a new video today about who I'm leased to now, it'll probably be edited and published by tomorrow!
