Everybody has opinions about almost everything. In my life experience I have always tried to be helpful (sometimes it didn't work out). My channel is based on my experiences. Sometimes this is expert such as the case concerning vinyl decals (more than 35 years experience), sometimes I am somewhat experienced but not expert such as automotive or construction projects, Ariel Lifts and other equipment . My pledge to you is "I will never comment on things that I am a total idiot about".

Popular Hydraulic Pump - Converting PT threaded ports to NPT
Просмотров 451Месяц назад
The hydraulic pump in this video is widely distributed on popular internet websites. If you are considering purchasing one of these pumps ( HGP-1A-F6R ) you should watch this video. The pump is a good one, it is made in China and incorporates PT threads on the ports. The only problem is finding fittings that will work with the PT threaded ports already on the pump. Some of you subscribers asked about pole saws that could reach up higher than the average hand held pole saw. These saws usually require the operator to stand in a dangerous place to get the height that the manufacturer claims can be achieved. Early in 2024 , I released a video of a converted lawn tractor with a pole saw that could reach about 18 feet while keeping the operator out of the dange...

Does it matter which direction the alternator spins?
Alternators work in either direction. The only real concern is air flow from the fan. You may need to change out the fan with one that offers cooling in the opposite direction. This would mainly be a concern in a high heat environment like an enclosed engine compartment.
I see. Thank you
There is a place for cordless chainsaws, though like you said, probably not as a primary saw for serious work. I had an experience where a couple of mid sized trees went down over my son's driveway (he was working out of town) and I show up early in the morning after the storm with a battery chainsaw and make short work of things. It was 5am and I didn't wake up any neighbors or get any noise complaints. Really opened my eyes to just the type of jobs these saws shine on. Are the bars and the chains available readily? Nice job on the review, Ed. I always look forward to anything you post. Hope you had a happy Thanksgiving.

Thx for the video, it's very helpful. Excuse my ingnorance but I presume the bar/chain oil "self-feeds" as you operate the chain saw, correct? Do you need to empty the reservoir after use / will the oil leak out on its own during storage?
Yes to both questions. The bar oil is self feeding by gravity and yes the oil will leak out totally within 24 hrs.
@eds2centsworth203 Thank you!
How much did everything cost? That would be helpful info.
Basically about $80.00 plus tax for the saw, battery and charger. Comes with 90 day warranty. You can buy a 2 year extended warranty for about $20.00. I have Many Bauer 20volt Power Tools and Batteries. Many I got the 2 year warranty on but have never used any of them.. so I stopped getting the extended warranty, by the time I need it, it will be expired. The only problem I had was the first charger I got years ago won't charge the 12 amp hour battery, so I used a newer one I got in a combo deal recently and it works fine, so does the rapid one I got of another color faster charger.
I have had similar experience with the Bauer tools outlasting the extended warranty. I have however benefited from the 2 year warranty concerning Harbour Freight's other products. They have replaced a welder and a vehicle canopy for me with a simple statement of what was wrong. It doesn't get much better than that. I look forward to hearing from you in the future. Thanks, Ed
Morning Ed , I like the Bauer line of tools also . I got the package set last week . Buy the battery and charger and get the tool for free . I got the Hercules battery and 20volt grease gun . Ed, What has been your best source for these pumps? Also, do you have a reasonably priced source for small but rather long hydraulic cylinders, like say maybe 48" long or more? Keep up the great work. I always look forward to your videos. Thank you for what you do.
This pump in video came from Amazon - price will fluctuate some over time and depending on the supply vendor. Currently about $49 from the vender at this link: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09QQ2KYC6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 My first go to place for hydraulic cylinders is: www.surpluscenter.com/Hydraulics/ If I can't find a good deal for what I want I also check Ebay and Amazon. Also Facebook Marketplace will somtimes yield good results. Also: www.discounthydraulichose.com/
You can get a bunch of different versions of this pump, you don't need to screw around with adapters and that kinda nonsense. The last section of the pump id code is the port style, P# indicates PT thread, but you can us F# to order them with flanged outlets, or U# to order it with UNF, and G# is for BSP or PF fittings. It sounds like you would want an HGP-1A-F-06-R-X1-4BDA-U1 pump. for 9/16-18 UNF, or U2 for 3/4-16 UNF. They can also do NPT instead of PT if you just ask for it while ordering.
Yes that is true, but hold on to your wallets. Most of my subscribers are weekend project people. When you make a specific order to have the pump to just what you want it costs big bucks. I have seen this same pump selling for over $700 just the way I would want it. Compare that to buying this pump on internet outlets like Ebay and Amazon for under $100 and then tap it out to my fittings and save $600. This video is for the person that doesn't have a big budget or have the resource of a large corporation.
I really like your videos! I'm thinking seriously about pulling and old mower out of the weeds and giving this a try.
Go for it!
does this help with traction? Cool video
Yes, it definitely improves traction. The heavier the weights the less spin on the tires on difficult terrain.

How much did each weight weigh? Awesome idea!
About 25 lbs each. the way I made them I could add additional weight if I needed it.
Just so your viewers know, it’s also possible to add extra center sections of a regular gas pole saw to gain extra height while having all the controls in your hands. I’ve seen some videos on this with two or three additional sections to get quite a bit of height. Of course being manually held and operated there are tradeoffs for doing it that way, but it is possible.
Yes, they work, but the problem is, the more extentions means more weight the operator has to control. So the operator tends to try to control the saw by having it straight up (vertical) thus placing himself in harms way when the limb falls. This pole saw could cut a 16" diameter limb 32 feet up with the operator completely out of harms way. This saw was used extensively cutting tree limbs in a pecan orchard.
@@eds2centsworth203 Yup, that was the main tradeoff to which I was referring. Also just the sheer weight of something like that would take someone younger and stronger than I! 😉
Outstanding! That is some excellent engineering. The other way I have seen is a rope saw, with long rope on either side so you could stand far enough away and manually cut by pulling the rope one way then the other.
Rope saws work. But if you have a lot of trees to trim they are no fun. The saw I built was extensively used on pecan trees in southeast Georgia USA.
@@eds2centsworth203 Absolutely. I have never used one but the rope saw could be pretty strenuous. You made quite an invention.
Good info, Ed.

This is excellent, Ed. I have a big need for something like this. When you start getting up this high, it becomes an expensive proposition to hire someone to come out and do this. And, as usual, lots of ideas of what to use and how to use it. You are so good at this type of thing. Thank you!

Nice work. People don't have common sense enough to realize that there in over their head. Its not do much the equipment as it is operator error. Abd it would happen with sny equipment . Tge thing is egen welds break for example did a wrkder do the work or did joe shmo with his new temu welder. Using soup cans for framing metal. And he wonders why he got hurt or hurt someone. You got to know ur own limits to. I don't think you would rebuild your transmission in your car and you never had tool set. And dont know how change spark plugs. Know your limits. All im saying. Hello you say u usehd a tool battery with your 24 volt system. I have 4of the 6 amp h. DW's 20 volts all new with maybe 10 charges on them. There workink load os 18.volts i think. Ive used it with 12 volt spot light cut car cigarette plug off put flat blades on end plug in battery wirks great. Wonder if they the dw battery would work with one battery for one actuator 12 volt. Or think it would let the magic smoke out. Thanks , should run bit faster im thinking if it don't fry it. 🥓 🍳. Lol.
I have powered actuators with 48 volt batteries. Your 20 volt batteries will work great.
Keep on popping them different kinds of ways to make a loader lawn mower. I've been thinking on like fork truck style. Maybe an actuator straight up and down and little one one bucker for tilt and even a third for slight pivot on up and down frame to 6" give 3" each way positive and negative tilt maybe. IDK seeing what you think. Your the expert on this. Also one could have little fork lift and bucket attachments for versatility. Just a half a cents worth. For now everyone just wait till ED gets few cents on it. Be awesome as always. Thanks for sharing stay safe from ur ole hillbilly buddy
Yeah I really like it . Might be what I need to start with. . Later upgrade to hydraulic put winch on my 4 wheeler when take it off there. Win win. Thanks for sharing ur 2 cents.

That's a cool build. The one question I have about this tractor is what kind of speed selector is in it? My father's old MTD lawn tractor had a 2-belt CVT and it *sucked*. Just going up and down hills while mowing grass it ate up a drive belt every couple years. On the other hand, if your machine has a hydro, you should be alright. In that case the only thing I would suggest is putting a larger pulley on the transmission to lower the gear ratio. When engaging the ground torque is more important than speed.
This was a CVT. I do a lot of experimentation and this was the first CVT transmission tractor I built on. I prefer to build with a hydrostatic platform. Although I must say that this particular build performed well. Ballast weight in the rear is key to good performance. Thanks, Ed
You, sir, are a smart and experienced person. Thank you.
Thank you kindly
Hey your videos keep getting better and better 😊 . Thanks for all your hard work. Really appreciate and enjoy your videos so much.
Thank you so much!
Adding windshield washer fluid in your mower tires adds about 10 pounds to each average size mower rear wheel too.
Thanks for the input. It should be noted that on the larger 23" tire with a 12" rim you can get about 20 pounds per tire with windshield washer fluid. But here is something to consider - most residential loaders built on riding mowers have 2 ply tires. If the mower has some age on it the tires are more than likely showing some signs of cracking (dry rot). I recommend examining the tires closely before liquid filling. It may not be worth the time and effort to fill with windsield washer fluid if the tires are old.
Hello, you have a lots nice technic shots - do you have any conatct form to contact you?

Cool thank you I'm making a trailer that the bed slides in and out and I was having problems with the cables binding into each other
I'm glad it was helpful.
How do you first drill the pilot hole??, video jumped past that process??
The way you always drill a pilot hole. Use a small drill bit (cobalt if possible). I like to start with a 1/8" or 3/16 bit. Drill the hole where you need it, then follow with the tapered die grinder bit to enlarge the hole. And then use larger die grinder bits as needed to achieve the size hole you want. Thanks for watching, Ed

You're very welcome!
Hi Ed, I am wanting to attempt this with my massy furguson mower which has plenty of power at 23hp but I am very worried about its comparatively weaker Transmission which is hydrostatic. Have you attempted to do this with any Hydrostatic tractors. I was looking at picking up a 90s Craftsman with only 12hp engine and a 5speed peerless Transmission, would this be a better bet? and would it be worth the $400 to switch to that?
I can't comment on the Massey Ferguson, but I have found that on the riding mower conversion to front end loader that the hydrostatic transmission with the 23 inch rear wheel (12 inch rim) works well overall. The manual transmissions have a little trouble when pushing into a pile of dirt (forward gear) and then shifting into reverse to back away from the dirt pile. The hydrostatic trans is pretty much seamless. The tractor in this video was a 7 speed manual. The transmission would load or bind going from forward to reverse if I tried to change gear before lifting the loader bucket. If I lifted the bucket first and then changed gear it worked better. I built a loader on a Craftsman GT6000 with Hydro transmission and 23 inch wheels and it worked well. I can't comment on the 5 speed Peerless but they seem to have a good reputation for garden tractor. Hope this helps.
@@eds2centsworth203 it does, thank you.
I'm thinking of using this to run a 12v hydraulic motor that will run my loader and other attachments (none built yet, still planning)
It will sure enhance the performance of the 12v hydro motor/pump. Happy building!

That is so awesome. I am planning on building one. Thanks so much love your videos.

Actuators can be very fast and of comparable speed to hydraulics. Where excavator manufacturers have removed hydraulic systems entirely from a battery version of a diesel model, it has given operational benefits. Its probably about choosing the best actuator for the job. Those electro-hydraulic units you installed are also compact and very good.
Yes the actuators have their place. Unfortunately the really high end electric actuators are on the expensive side and not feasible for a weekend fabrication project that is for the home owner. If it is a commercially viable build then money is less of a barrier. Overall, dollar for dollar, hydraulics is the best choice.
If I had to guess, I’d say Part 2 will show how to install thrust bearings onto the steering spindles. Also possibly installing grease fittings onto the spindles if they don’t have them. If that’s the case, I suspect the steering wheel modification may not actually be necessary. Given the extra weight of the front end, Part 2 will definitely help decrease the effort necessary to steer, but also lengthen the life of the parts involved since there’s a lot more friction involved with that extra weight.
Sorry, no. Part 2 takes an unorthodox approach. Basically, it is the steering parts design that is faulty, altering the parts will provide near power steering performance. The kingpins (the vertical shaft) are much more critical to steerability than the spindle (the horizontal shaft). Many of the modern lawn tractors have these 2 components made into a single part. However your ideas are excellent. I have seen thrust bearing kits. Also, keep in mind that many modern lawn tractors use plastic bushings for the kingpin and spindle.
@@eds2centsworth203 Thx. I’ll be watching for Part 2!🔧👍
I guess I had the nomenclature wrong. I thought the vertical was the spindle.
That was genius. Also gives a very factory and professional esthetic. A lot of respect for your innovation - wow 👍👍👍
Thank you very much!
what was the rated capacity and length of the Actuators you decided to use?@@eds2centsworth203
@@eds2centsworth203 What was the Capacity rating and stroke length you decided to implement? Are the boom and the bucket different specs? 😃
I used 1320 lb (6000 N) actuators.
10 inch stroke on lift arms and 12 inch stroke on bucket.
Ed, there is a true genius in someone applying logic and creativity in such a simple form. What a great idea! This is why I keep coming back to your channel. Always something to learn and apply.
