KLX300 0-60 MPH Clutchless Shifts, Top Speed Runs
Просмотров 7 тыс.2 года назад
This is my first video on my new 2022 KLX300. The bike is stock and I'm about 170 lbs for reference. In this video I'm just messing around and doing some quick pulls.
I do more single track than on rode. That being the case I dropped from a 42 rear sprocket to a 52. I lost a lot of top end but it really paid off in the woods. I also run knobbies so I avoid the streets when I can. My KLX did great climbing mtn. passes and gulches in Silverton, CO. The bike also did good on the Hatfield McCoy trails in WV. Videos on UTube .
Sorry to hear that.
I will be getting a klx300 for 2025 for sure but I do wonder about the bars. I am think of having the dealer put new ones for me. I am 5'11. What do you think ? BTW it should not be too hard to do something to get rid of that white on the side covers. Just a thought.
The bars were my favorite upgrade. They make the bike feel way better. I have another video talking about all the upgrades I did to the bike. You’re right about the white plastic piece I just didn’t have much of an imagination.
@ 13:10, "What the hell is this? Does this go somewhere?" This is why we dual sport.
Legit wheelies.
Not one performance mod ? Spent almost 900$ on bullshit !! Lmao
thanks for the comment. The sprocket update provides 10% more torque, more than any performance mod could ever do for this little 300.
Try some goldentyre with a fatty tire up front. Mobs over everything. Nice video
thanks for watching!
Hey! i bought the same tail tidy and the same turn signals, but im having trouble with those Tusk signals, how did you install them?
@@guadaestudio9800 I think I tried to secure them using the same stock bracket on the back but ended up just not using it and simply pushing them through the stock holes without using the bracket. There was enough friction and interference that they just stayed in. Lasted until I sold the bike without issue.
@@atlklx5168 thanks!
Was there any mods you had to do to fit that front fender? I dislike the factory one
I put some washers between the fender and the rear 2 mounting points to adjust the angle of it slightly. If you put it on as is then it will hit the downtube (frame piece right in front of the motor). I think I did little bit of heating and shaping but it didn’t require special tools. It took like 2-3 minutes of work so it was way worth it and the fender is cheap.
@@atlklx5168 Awesome. I ordered the Acerbis fender and this worked great. I had to heat the top with a heat gun and push it in to give it room for the headlight and the whole process tokk 20 minutes. Thank you for the video.
@@billshoop7504 glad to hear it worked! It was one of my favorite mods because of how cheap it is and how much of a difference it makes.
So it's been a year. How's the MT21 holding up? I ride 50 50 and I SWEAR every time I hit the dirt roads my tires ( stock ) try and kill me. Namely the front. P.s. I'm 57 . I resemble the " old guy " remark. 😅
@@CenturionSilver I unfortunately sold the bike after an accident + injury. The MT21 improved the front end confidence a lot off road though and it didn’t seem worn at all after 500 miles of mixed riding. 57 ain’t that old! You can still rip I’m sure!
Yo lets ride I'm in Marietta right by the big chicken on my klx250s all the time
Would you say it could do 65 all day?
Absolutely. 65 is no problem for this bike in its stock configuration.
@@atlklx5168 awesome thank you for responding
Hell yeah sick bike brother! Also love the clean and organized garage. I can tell you take pride in it!
@@DStabs720 yes sir thanks for watching!
Heart skipped a beat when you transferred from asphalt to grass at the very end. I own a 2024 KLX300 myself. I love it more every time I get the chance to ride it. Ride safe.
good luck to you i enjoyed your videos 😊
dang man. sorry to hear about this. hang in there dude. My worst fear for sure!
Does the KLX300 have throttle by wire or cables? The ability to go from street to trails is why I like dual sport motorcycles. It was also practical to be able to leave the road, and go into the grass on the side of the road when there was a car accident blocking the road. Hopping over curbs to get in or out of parking lots blocked by traffic is another benefit of owning a dual sport machine.
@@MrMoneyHelper it’s cables. Pretty classic setup except for fuel injection.
I dont blame u on wearing those boots, I do also. I end up running errands, fishing, hiking off my bike. Its a chance we all take. Im not doing any crazy offroad anymore on my KLX, moved on to a KLR but riding a hell of lot farther now just slower offroad.
Thanks for watching. Yes I wear the moto boots a lot but thought this would just be a quick spin and used the regular street boots. I’ll think twice next time.
Rim locks & drop your tire pressure.
Yeah I did end up doing that in some later videos. Along with knobbier tires.
Hey...I was curious. What kind of motorcycle insurance do you have for your KLX 300...full coverage or liability?
I have liability because I owned the bike, and if it was totaled entirely, I could cover the cost just not replace it. My main purpose was to ride off road so if I was using it as a commuter, I would have gotten more coverage. But this bike is tough and when I dropped it then I was fine picking it up and riding home; no claims necessary. A road bike would also be a different story.
New to riding and to dual sports in general. When you're taking turns on the road, how do you lean? Do you prefer counter leaning every time or do you lean your body over? I have a KLX 300 too with the stock Dunlop tires on them still.
@@originalpastaman5470 i definitely counter steer the dual sports at slower speeds on road and almost always off road. On road with the stock tires you can lean with the bike at higher speeds (40+ mph) and get more out of the bike. It’s no sports bike but it can be a great 70-80% bike on back roads. My 2 cents. Thanks for watching and stay safe.
Are those handlebars tapered ? If so did you need to buy a tapered fitting for your handguards?
@@mrcolin2u the bars taper down to 7/8” at the grips so there were no special parts or considerations for the handguards. Where the transition is at the bend is a bit finicky, but I think that’s just how universal kits are. Always a bit of engineering involved to make it work right.
Sir ATL KLX ; will it do my local speeds comfortably? That's 70-75mph(Interstate) w/o ragging the bike at high rpm's? I want a dual sport for 80% - 20% roads to dirt but one hang up is the speeds? Tell me it'll do a comfortable 75mph & not be too high of a rev on the engine? peace
It will do 75 for awhile without too much issue. I’ve done it for 25-30 minutes at a time. You won’t have much passing power but cruising is ok. It’s a sturdy little motor and can take abuse.
Thanks, I'd simply stay to the right & let folks by me = Ride Defensively which is just smart in these situations. Thank you again, that's very relevant info. peace
I absolutely love my 300 and can go anywhere and its light just a damn near perfect bike but it sucks on the highway.
Billmuri hell yea
I thought no one would know 😮

All the right stuff ! Looks great and more importantly, functional.
Im in north ga as well. Have a 300l and a klx230rs, both need new tires soon i am planning on the same setup
The only thing I would recommend is to just not go with a larger/heavier size on the back, especially with the klx230. I went up a little bit to the 120/90r18 tire and it does have a little bit more of a sluggish feel on-road. If you only ride off-road, it probably won't matter. A sprocket changed helped me get the snap back.
What Psi you running here?
I had about 8-10 PSI in the tires. I also was running rim locks which helps when running lower pressures.
I'm picking up my 2024 KLX 300 tomorrow. I really like the MZS levers (I have them on my KLR 650). However Amazon says they won't fit my bike. So I looked up OEM part #'s for a 22 vs 24 KLX 300 and the part #'s are different. Now I'm bummed and will have to search for some that compare to MZS levers. Any idea of another brand?
Love my klx300
You said if you are "coming out here on the stock setup your are not gonna make it." Whatchu mean ? What do you need to upgrade? I have the KLX300R
Your 300R would be just fine. My KLX300 came with dual sport tires and they aren’t good for serious off road or single track. Your bike is also 20 lbs lighter; it would be good fun out there.
@@atlklx5168 Oh sick thanks for the reply. Enjoying your content as a new rider to dirt you are giving me virtual confidence to progress :)
Do you still recommend this set up for the KLX and where did you get them from ? i didn’t see a link for them i enjoy watching your videos Thanks 😊
I think its the best of both worlds. Street performance is still acceptable but off road is drastically improved. I got both tires from Rocky Mountain ATV.
@@atlklx5168 thank you so much for your input and a quick response
lol Austrian bikes are double the price and are literally dirt bikes with lights on them. 😂
I like some of your mods some of the mods I have done was the skid plate hand protectors and the graphics kits I tried the Amazon foot pegs but I had a problem when wearing my Mx boots so I went with the factory pegs and put on a tusk shifter the best mod I think I have done was the Delkevic exhaust the bike seams more responsive and sounds awesome a lot of the mods I have done was following the Gold guy I really enjoy watching your videos the next mod I want to do is the tires I think the stock tires are shit in the trails I may try your method or the Gold guys set up being a new KlK rider at 60 lol do you have any body else that you follow ? And do you have a instagram ? Thanks for sharing your experience on the KlX Gene C from OHiO

@@atlklx5168 nooooooooooooo
@@atlklx5168 you may have just convinced me to going back to my Tech 10s for everyday riding...
@@atlklx5168damn, that sucks. Did they total it or after the crash you decided that was enough ? Heal up.
@@c0ck_l2oach75 the bike was fine after the crash but I had it listed even before I crashed for other reasons. The crash just bent a foot peg and scratched some plastics. It’s a tough bike but I was less tough.
I just bought pretty much everything in your links for mine love it. I hate the stock look on these dual sports
Would you recommend your setup of this bike for a beginner...
Does it feel like a new bike compared to the stock version??.. .
You mentioned that there was a difference between metric and inch sizing. I believe the front is a 90/90x21 and the stock rear equates. To a 100/90x18. I seen where guys have run a 120/90x18 and that raises the seat height a bit and could slightly change the fork angle with a subtle change in handling. What sizes did you choose? It would have been nice to include photography of the sizes in the video.
anyone make a aftermarket exhaust
Do you have issues with up shifting? With wider pegs, there isn't much space between the peg and shift lever. With size 12 boots, I'm having problems with up shifts to second gear. Is there a extended shift lever?
No problems for me but I did adjust the shift lever up one spline to make it easier for my boot to get under. Thanks for watching!
Those trails look like alot of fun 👍
Looks nice. Lots of Keyboard Bro's in here. If u bought a Euro bike for twice the price you all do tires, sprockets and bars anway. And the KTM/Beta's are not "dual sports". They are buzzy and uncomfortable on the road and if u actually ride them they need a rebuild every 2 years or 5k miles. Save some money for all the breakdowns also.
Good stuff. I'd like to link up and ride around GA 👌
No suspension mods? That and de-smogging are some of the best mods for improving a stock dual sport bike’s off road performance. Protection, tires and bars are good too.
I don’t need suspension mods for how I ride honestly. I don’t think I’m good or fast enough to take advantage of them.
Just sold my 250. Picked up a KLX400 {DRZ} as a project, but gonna ride it rest of season and mayb a desert trip this winter. My thoughts : The power on the DRZ is crazy good, typical power mods its faster than my stock CRF450L. Suspension is better also. However, its feels a lot heavier. The power on the road is a blast, cant use it all offroad. The KLX was way better offroad, tractors smoother and hooks up. Handles better being lighter. Trade Offs! Might buy a newer DRZ next year in black or grey, or a KLX300 in the new colors. And possibly do a Adventure Rally X navigation tower. Either way, both great bikes for riding how we do. My 250 just didnt have enough power end of day, rung the hell out hauling my 215lbs at 65mph if i gotta cover ground.
I still think about a drz-sm often for a commuter and street fun.
Still a little too hot to ride mine here in Phoenix area. Planning to do a couple more rides in Oct. and then I'll probably be selling mine too. Prob going to get a Kove 450 cuz I want to do BDRs. I'll miss the little green machine, tho!
For BDR I get the 450. On these tighter woods trails I’d probably smash into a tree with a 450.
Wondering if possible to lower the bike for shorter riders ? I`m 5'3.
Certainly. Between lowering links and a seat, you would be able to get at least 2” lower seat height, maybe more. You’d have to budget $200-300 for those components but I think a lot of people do it and there seems to be videos installing lowering links on the KLX. The adjustable suspension would also allow you to ensure that the bike dynamics are not too compromised with the lowered height.
@@atlklx5168 Thank you! Give me a sense of hope to ride off roads!
