yup, the number on the back can be easily be rubbed off with alcohol. That's likely what happened, careful if you decide to clean any cartridges

Hi, it can be found under the removable cover/face plate that doesn’t need a screwdriver to be removed.

When I picked these up I paid around $300 for both the black and white versions.

@@hungry_bug3641 roughly $300 total for both. About 185 for the black one, 110 for the white. It was a good find at the time. Very difficult to find a deal on these nowadays

Dang I just ordered a black one from a guy on Craigslist, apparently new in the box, for $185 today. He had an unopened Galaxy New 3DS XL for $285 as well. If the Black Mario edition one actually shows I’m definitely gonna buy that Galaxy one off him, these devices are so rare now and even rarer unopened

Thanks for the comment. Really appreciated it. Regarding your question about the alphanumeric codes... Yes, each Nintendo game has its own code. Let's continue with the SM64 DS cover example, NTR P ASME. This code doesn't change with each version/print run of SM64 DS. The ASME part would be the matching identifier on the cover art, as well as the front label of the cartridge and the first four characters of the printed code on the back of the cartridge. There is a 5-digit number with a letter near the barcode as well to identify the cover version, e.g. 65432A. The letter represents the version: A is the first version, B is the second, C is the third, etc. Manuals and inserts have similar codes with the same version identification concept. Hope this is helpful. There is more to all of this but it would be a lot to write.

Yup that rubberish matte. I remember keeping that styrofoam sleeve because of how nice quality the finish was on the console and kid me not wanting to fingerprint up the nice gloss finish.

I miss this era of clamshell design gloss white plastic. So new and fresh with the MacBooks and new DS at the time having this as the style trend.

That's cool. Bootleg games can work just as well as an authentic game. The rom is probably ripped from a real one. You got a good one that gets the job done for you.

Would like to add one of those to the collection eventually. The mii plaza papers were omitted at some point. I know (some, if not all?) Flame Red units didn't come with them. Correct, not all player's choice came with these. I assume the black/red memory card is rare compared to the normal gray version. It was hard to find more info on it besides that it was in later print runs of the player's choice. There was one site I found that mentioned this: sourcegaming.info/2016/06/06/all-about-gamecube-memory-card-variants/

I didn't get mine new. I have only seen the player's choice w/ black memory, or the memory card alone, a few times in the wild before I got mine, and that was a few years ago. Haven't kept up with gamecube games recently. What have you come across out there? Feels like there's a mystery to solve lol

@@Dregantz I'm just curious, im trying to complete my animal crossing players choice and I'm trying to figure out which card I should get for it lol every unboxing I've seen had the grey card and I haven't seen a single black card except this video, you would think a lot of players choice copies would come with a black and red memory card. I'm trying to find out if some of the players choice actually really do come with that card

Completely understand your dilemma. I think the next step would be to hit up collector forums for others to corroborate. It's the one thing I haven't done yet to find others with this memory card. Hopefully, there will be others. I hope the video was helpful though.

Yes, this can be found on carts that were released very early on, print runs in 2004 and 2005. I've seen it on 64 DS, Kirby Canvas Curse, and Yoshi Touch & Go.

Hi, thanks for bringing this up. This is exactly the type of info I'm looking to corroborate. It is totally possible inserts changed before the logo did. That's the tricky thing with popular games, they get multiple production runs and the variations increase. I'm sure this will be helpful for collectors to know.

@@Dregantz Health and safety booklet has a slightly different font, the instruction booklet lacks some details on the cover. For example the "Nintendo DS" label has a different shadow, which is weird: I compared it with other original booklets in my collection. Anyway I am absolutely amazed how good is the overall quality of prints and the box, everything is very detailed and seems legit if you don't try check thoroughly. The cartridge itself is really good, nice plastic and correct numbers. However, the top of it is smooth and lacks the rectangular shape thing which is impossible for the original DS game. I cannot be 100% sure but it feels like ebay has lots of these same copies of the game at the moment with a price up to USD 50-100. As of now I will ask buyers to send me more photos.

Good eye catching the giveaways of a fake. Smooth seam on the cartridge is something that gets overlooked. Shadow of the logo on booklets I've heard is another sign. I know of two kinds of official health & safety pamphlets, so I still need to learn more about the fakes of those. And I'm curious if your fake came with a registration/nintendo power or club nintendo pamphlet? or an "if you like..." advertisement. Pretty much every nintendo published DS game came with these differences depend on the year of the release/print run. Another giveaway is the DS case itself. Nintendo didn't remove the GBA holder until around 2010 from their cases, so a new/sealed game that was released in 2007/08 should have a case with the GBA cart holder (exceptions might exist though, I'm not 100%). Very interesting detail you found. It could be a defect or a fake. Can't really say without seeing it for myself. Is yours still sealed or opened? If it's open, I would check the cart's authenticity and compare the paper/print quality of the cover/inserts included to another DS game you know is real. There's a few ways to check cart authenticity. I have a video on a real vs fake cart for animal crossing, and a video on the Zelda DS games, that would help point out what to look for.

@@Dregantz Update on this: I sent it to WATA for grading, and they authenticated it as real and encased it in their grade case. So that answers the question that yes, box arts can in fact shift in Nintendo Manufactured DS games. People of the future, you're welcome!

@@Dregantz Is that really all the games that were rereleased in the red case? I used to see Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time at Toys R Us in a red case back in the day.

@@Victor-zv6vy Thanks for this! You seeing them in Toys R Us helps confirm more then the six. I came across Partners in Time with a red case earlier this year and had no idea if that was a recase since it wasn't sealed. I assume the six mentioned were the first wave released with the red case. I'm not sure what other Mario titles got the treatment.
