Swapping a 5-Wire CDI for a 7-Wire
We get an old and very used golf cart running using a five wire CDI module. The wiring is not intuitive, but it seems to work. I am not sure why this isn't a more common fix.

      The F1 is about 60-61 inches wide wheel mounting flange to wheel mounting flange. The Explorer is 59.5. I am putting this chassis under my 49 and 57 chevy pickups. Keep in mind the rear frame kickup will reduce bed depth and I am not aware of anyone selling drop spindles for the explorer.

      1995-2000 are the ones I look for. The Explorer production between the 2nd gen and 3rd gen is confusing. Take a look at the Ford explorer wiki page to see all variations and production timing. Also, the explorer wheelbase will be either 102" or 112" so you will have to lengthen the wheelbase for your F1. I lengthened mine by installing a chevy trailing arm rear suspension, but others have cut and lengthened the actual frame. I made a video...ruclips.net/video/CPJOnqKosjI/видео.html showing how I set it up for the 57 chevy pickup.

    I’ll probably start an argument with this comment but hey at least you get a comment for the YT algorithm. I grew up thinking SWB meant Short Wheel Base but I’ve been hearing on this channel and others referring to them as Short Wide Bed. The argument being a Wide Bed is a flare side and a narrow bed is a step side. My argument is I’ve never heard a step side referred to as SNB or Short Narrow Bed. Maybe I’ve been wrong all my 65 years, dunno. Anyway the IH is looking good. 👍🏻

    • @RandomRodShop
      @RandomRodShop Месяц назад

      Your thinking is correct. The correct nomenclature for the beds are; Long wheelbase fleetside, short wheelbase fleetside, long wheelbase step side, and short wheelbase stepside. Overtime these have been shortened to just Short wide, long wide, most usually short stepside and long stepside. My Ford knowledge is a little weak, but I think Ford uses Flare side for their step sides and Styleside for their wide boxes. I use "short wide" because it gets the point across without having to explain what a fleetside bed is or what wheelbase means.

    • @RandomRodShop
      @RandomRodShop 2 месяца назад

      I have not seen drop spindles for the 4WD. I think that you would need to replace the 4wd spindles with 2wd spindles to get lowering spindles. I have not done this swap but I think that they will swap. You would lose 4wd (RWD only) and need to change the wheel hubs also.

    • @RandomRodShop

      Ok...You learn something new every day. Since where I live the roads can be a little rough, I don't think too much about lowering my trucks. I assumed that the aftermarket would have produced a drop spindle. However, I have not located a source for dropped spindles. If someone has a source post it here. After studying the spindle design, it may be challenging to raise the spindle 2" with the original Ford design.

    God bless you but most if not all the cars and trucks in the field you will never finish. The fate of so many older car collectors stuff.

      You're right about all the field cars. 😊But, the good news is that only four of them are on the list - the impala, the 57 and 49 chevys, and the F100. Everything else is parts.

    Great video. I just can't seem to get time . I tried planning a day or half hrs here or there and then went to 10 to 15 min here or there and still can't get to it 😢.

      Thanks. I definitely know what you mean especially during the summer months when the grass is growing and the to do list is infinite. You've probably noticed the only project I've got going that I have owned less than 10 years is than 67 c10. I am trying to get much better at making sure I have all the parts I need before I start a project, but I still get caught off guard.

    Hello there, I still think that would do a better job if you got rid of the weights and put a little hood or a hatch shock to hold the hammer down ! Have a good one

      I have been thinking about your strut idea for a while. I think I have worked out the quick release linkage.

      It works well for beads. Shogibyvictortree had a good idea of trying the original hammer design to do the shrinking. I am going to give is a try.
