How come Ali will insist he was the designated successor to people who do not honor his nomination? If Ali will insist his nomination to them it means war. That's not the option of Ali. Having war against those people who will not honor his right is very dangerous of islam because the warring parties will become three parties: 1. The shias or those who honor his appointment. 2. The umarians or those who are still following islam but dont like Ali as the caliph. 3. The apostate party or those who don't want both Islam and Ali as caliph. The wars among these 3 parties will surely ruin Islam. Ali was wise enough not to force his appointment to those who dont like him as their caliph. And cooperated to the umarian party to defeat the apostates. And he cooperated with the umarians to defeat the romans and Persians. That's how Ali saved Islam. As for his being the true first caliph, the shias already honored it. As for those who still not decided what party or caliph to give your allegiance, they have to choose Ali or the rival caliph chosen by the umarian party.
