Why Quake Champions Failed
Просмотров 7 тыс.7 месяцев назад
Quake Champions is a notable title in the Quake series as its latest and most controversial title. It didn't succeed by modern gaming standards and still competes with older titles for player counts. Champions made several notable gameplay additions and removals that likely contributed to the games downfall including the admission of an important character in the Quake series. This should be Quake 6
Просмотров 13 тыс.7 месяцев назад
Rumor of the potential announcement of Quake 6 has been spreading around so in today's video I want to discuss what Quake 6 could potentially look like. Quake 6 should be similar to previous Quake titles while being more expansive and getting rid of some of the more archaic parts of old Quake. Although I personally do not think there will be a Quake 6, if there was it would have the potential t...

Why did Quake (and arena shooters) die?
Просмотров 449 тыс.Год назад
The arena fps genre laid the ground work for shooters as a whole and created some of the best gaming experiences ever to be created. Despite this, arena fps games have taken a back seat to their younger brother, tactical shooters. Why has this happened? In this video I take a look at a couple games from the arena fps genre and their design choices that may have led to this downfall. Sorry this ...
Is the SRS good? (ULTRAKILL cybergrind)

Today I explore the new SRS Cannon and how good it will be in ULTRAKILL Cybergrind. This new weapon is interesting. If it receives any changes, it could become a staple weapon. ULTRAKILL really doesn't need that though lol. How to mod guns into Animal Crossing

How to mod guns into Animal Crossing
Good, don't come back.
My preferred arena shooter has to be classic Doom with either the new Kex engine remaster from 2024, or using source ports like Zandronum, ZDaemon or Odamex. Even though you can get absolutely stomped if someone hogs the BFG, it's so hectic and the Super Shotgun in that game is so powerful that I believe it's the great equalizer. Hell, some servers still use the OG Dwango mapsets from the 90s, and IMO they have aged great!
The bait titles: Plays in a game full of players. Why arena games are dying? 🤦♂️
I honestly don't think adding new movement mechanics is the right move, sure it'll add depth but I don't think lack of depth is the reason why quake isn't more popular. We need new modes, new spectacle, and systems in place to make the onboarding process less frustrating for new players. I think that means new more casual modes in addition to optional simpler movement systems (eg. "doom mode" in adition to traditional quake movement) would help players get their bearings. Quake can't just double down on mechanics that are actively pushing away players. I'm not saying remove the basic quake movement completely but I think experimenting with things like round based modifiers, replayable singleplayer modes, and some sort of party game mode that's a bit sillier and more casual might help.
Damn bro. We will miss you but do your religious duty. We'll be here when you get back.
25:22 it was a fantastic video. I liked it very much.
Liked and Subscribed. 👍
17:11 what anime?
8:58 as cool as quick to was I much prefer the theme and Ambience and atmosphere of Quake 1. I need to remake one and pronto. In fact I'll take a relaunching of the whole series, like a reboot of the series.
Quake 5 not Quake 6 becouse champions is not 5
I liked Quake single player, but never enjoyed its multiplayer. CS was built by players for players and finessed by them for some time. Quake was created by a studio with their vision of what players might want CS also has random spawn maps, and aim-centered mini-games for honing reaction I just never liked the style Quake want with the III: the extreme colors, bulky design, it just seemed weird. The 1-st was mystical and about the ancient past, the 2-nd was military. I comprehend they went with space theme in the 3-rd, but it just looked like a step in the opposite direction from realism Quake was about, and all really craved for at that time of CG It's not that CS really improved over time, it's the same at its core as it was 20 years ago. But just keeping it up and improving graphically worked for players, as they were not forgotten, and the core mechanics stayed the same
What if quake had skill based match making
Quake 3 was prety frekin good. But all those games were very short attention span games. You could call quake more an arcade, than fps. Its an aim trainer basicaly! Unreal tournament was a bit more nuanced. I still think first Unreal tournament is very playable today. Quake 3 is still very good today!! The Unreal new one that they remade is complete garbage! Same as new Quake! They just dont understand what makes a good game anymore for some reason... And make everything worse...more nuanced graphics is realy not needed in these games, its not the point! And that is what all todays companies do. Focus 99 percent of attention and crew on graphics, and leave making gameplay to the janitor!!!
died? isn't it arising?
3:24 ACKSHUALLLY,,, quake 1 mega health does NOT have a 90 second respawn time. MH spawns 20 seconds after whomever took it is reduced to 100 hp. q3 cpma does it the same way. also, quake 4 did slide mechanics a decade before titanfall 2. just saying
Arena shooters didn't die. Have you played CoD recently? It basically Quake with a very thing veneer of realism. These guys are jumping around the map sprinting, sliding, jumping off roof tops all while handling a weapon like they are standing still. No, the arena shooter didn't die, it just has new clothes.
The reason it dies because the player and fan are getting old and busy. Also younger generation prefer tacticool style, even halo and overwatch a bit tacticool than quake with better weapon animation and reload
Halo says hello.
too fast for kids now, kids need animations for everything they do or its "slow" to them because they dont understand.
A lot of the ideas you spitballed and opinions you expressed mirror my own, especially what you said around TF2 loadout system. On that note: why the hell did QC for all the good it did to the sandbox feel the need to spawn you in with worse versions OF THE objectively LESS POWERFULL WEAPONS? Winner's advantage is probably the biggest source of frustration in the series IMO.
I’m gooning…
quake has zero pay to win or monetisation-ability so Devs don't have much reason to market it, this is the real reason quake is not more popular.
Well done!
I encourage people to play Assaylt Cube, a very good old school arena shooter that was very popular in my country in my childhood
I only play quake 1 and 2 remake on my PS4 cause I have no pc But I freaking love it ❤️
Quake, StarCraft, WarCraft 3 were my favourite esports back in the day. Sad to see they all have pretty much died.
An idea for pickup balance is to have player count determine the spawn rate for pickups. More players, faster pickup spawn times. Less players, default times. Generally more options and settings in the game can create a sandbox element that adds to the replayabiilty. Could keep a focus and catering of classic defaults, but also explore new experiences should the players crave them. Similar to how Smash Bros series introduced custom game configurations.
What i HATE about this game is that shaft pushes way too much to the point it destroy the game best characteristic which is movement and also destroy 'mid range maps" in 1x1, tdm and rocket arena. Itsimbalanced but since its like this since 99, comunity is used to it. It also breaks newbies will to enter because... it breaks the game.
guys my ultracoin mod is slower it toss less coins how do i change it
Classic (hardcore) mode(s) regardless.
"Quake 3 introduced items." ...for those who didn't play Quake 2?
half life 2 deathmatch is good. go look up a server list. there's dedicated european servers
One massive thing you missed imo. Is client vs server side hit detection. Especially in the early 'high' ping dial up internet, this was a massive issue. The high speed broadband connections that lowered the pings/lag really gave an edge towards the people who paid for their broadband. In modern times, companies just go with client side hit detection because it is cheaper and one laggy dude can really destroy a teams morale by killing them with their packet loss and laggy behaviour. It really is no fun than to run and quickly hide behind a corner, only to die a full second later due to the laggy dude killing you. At least in modern games they fixed the warpy ness of such players, but not the advantage it gives of peeking trough windows and at corners.
I suck at videogames so i don't play difficult singleplayer games and multiplayer games. But i loved playing arena shooters when i was young and you didn't have to know how to do movement or have perfect aim. But now you basically need to start game having 2k hours in it or you just spend 80% of your gameplay respawning.
4:32 rofl :DDDDD
I love how almost all Arena shooters use Rockets or Grenades to do the super cool skill based movement but Half life 1 just decided to use the power of another thing. Well I think not decided just happened to that being the Tau cannon. Sadly they nerfed it in the main game in some patch & well I didn't know that & learnt the hard way when I couldn't abuse the thing to do what can be done in multiplayer. Halo is my favourite of these kinda games. Always disliked how Halo 4 & 5 kinda sacrificed what made Halo unique to try & chase the success of other series at the expense of their series. Glad infinite had the old system but I never really played its multiplayer & its main story got pretty dull when they made me fight an op boss in a game not designed for multi phase bosses. I'd almost beat it but no checkpoints for when you beat a phase made it way to hard for a game series not designed for bosses.
so I was going to start complaining about your opinions and ideas when you started talking about movement, but I thought "im just being a bitter old loser"... I'm now at 8:24 and I'm done watching. Your idea of what's good about Quake is what has made the 15+ years of terrible games come out from every publisher on the planet. Quake is god-tier because of it's simplicity, not because zoom zoom look how skillz0r i am. Weapon modifiers, I was with you until you said "remote explosion". You don't seem to understand basic game design. Would you prefer to play solitaire if you could see where every card is and move them around as you pleased? Would you prefer Monopoly if you could just choose which properties to buy? How about running in a race but you could choose to use a motorbike instead? It's downright stupid. sorry
Where can i get your mouse
Sounds like SF4
lmao what madness is this?? I just bought the game like 2 hours ago and love it but jesus christ i can't follow wtf is happening here xD
I inistall free ultrakill from torrent and it doesn't work for me
one button acceleration, like warfork or warsaw. +forward increases speed and can turn werever your view points at
Doomfist was easily the worst hero in OW1, but he was really rewarding to learn since there were dozens of small movement techs you could learn to make him better that were highly skillful, took a very long time to learn, and only gave you a small advantage, and eventually he could become almost viable, even if he was still absurdly high-skill, but Blizzard did such an amazing job of patching every useful Doomfist bug, while only leaving behind all the bugs that constantly screw you over, then wonder why no one plays him and they have to rework him.
3:12 wait, GABRIEL 2 SPAWNS IN THE CYBERGRIND?!
There was a Clan Arena mod for Quake that was round based like Counter-Strike would later be, you started with all weapons and max armor. I think if this was the default for Arena fps that might get more "casuals" who find the weapon hunt too hard
The alternate marksman is actually pretty decent if you hit your splitshots (and don't be a crazy deadcoon guy) it does a spin that lets you shoot sooner and also the shot that was splitshotted has an increase of damage.
They died because they failed to adapt and evolve and instead they all tried to be carbon copies of Quake. Don't get me wrong, Quake is good but it is dated game design wise. It's not approachable for a "normie" player. It's filled with veterans who have played for decades that will kill you over and over and over again. It's not a fun experience. It has no structure, it's just "mindless" flying around and killing everything that moves. All these new arena shooters don't actually do anything new or fresh, they just try to copy Quake with updated graphics. Game developers actually need to have an original idea instead of making a game that is 95% Quake and 5% their own thing. Because frankly, why would Quake players move to your game if it has nothing new to offer anyway and has no established community?
that part where you said "if you've played any arena shooter..." and showed tf2 footage in the background makes my аss itch so hard
Played Q, Q2 and Unreal, but with Duke Nukem and UT, they lost me. Most of that gameplay is super fast, and unnaturally fast. Fortnight, while being advanced in many ways, surely slows things down to somewhere closer to slow enough to have some relation to how fast humans can physically move. Even robot ones probably wouldn't hop around that fast in the foreseeable future.
stopped watching when you called ow an arena shooter. it doesn't have power ups and map control, it isn't an arena shooter.
