Off the Farm Dirt Work with Farmalls!
I like seeing old iron still getting the job done. I cut corn with a IH 966 for many years. And my cows didn’t care if it was chopped with a 50 year old tractor and harvester or a brand new one .
Very nice video thank you. Does the 1850 run the chopper better than the 856?
@@lowellmiller6663 They run it about the same, but the 856 has higher road speed, so it runs wagons
Oh-ya the good old days
We have the same chopper you have. Great machines
@richardjohnson5883 it's put up quite a bit of feed though the years! Definitely good machines
The old IH chopper is working good
‘tis the season . 👍
@@markflick1641 Yes sir!
Manure is always a great source of fertilizer.
Nice
When I was a teenager I would rake with my grandfather’s old Farmall Model A it had hand lifts for front and back. We planted corn and sweet potatoes every year and hay for the cattle and horses.
Good to see a tractor properly sized for the rake. So many are using 100hp+ tractors on the rakes. I used a MF135. Even at idle it had more than plenty of power for raking.
Very nice, just need a mini baler and we could do hay with garden tractors
@@Stevestractoradventures we actually were talking about that last night!
They make mini baler too.
Looks good
Awesome 👌
When I was growing up in the 40s and 50s is there a lot of old model M and an H. The M was a 52. I don't know about the H. Always enjoyed running those.
We still run the old ones for the smaller jobs...
Good looking setup 👍
Thanks!
Awesome Would be great to see a breakdown of how everything is setup and operates
I could do that next time we shell
I remember those days very well...
Your videos are amazing! If you like farming or harvesting videos, I look forward to having you visit my channel to have relaxing moments together!
Great cow feed 👌
Looks like they're moving right along getting the feed in for the winter. Good job...
Thanks! Cows sure seem to like it so far!
Where could i buy one of these old mounted corn pickers?
You can definitely tell that's a D17 motor in that. They have such a great sound under load like that
That's how I grew up chopping corn except we had a 1310 Long and later on a Jiffy dump wagon
Makes good feed for cheap, just getting hard to find parts
Thanks for your video
Never seen cornstalk small bales, you might have given us an idea on our farm...
You better have a good tuned baler, its hard on them and can be a pain if the knotters and plunger knife aren't up to snuff
@@biggins25801 Thanks for the feedback!
The good old days of my youth fun timed
That 354 Perkins is working good!
My salvage yard got 3 of those 2900 Mark 3 motors in Fiat Allis wheel loaders.
Great video. Thanks for sharing.
I love this time of year, chopping silage. Nice older rig there! I run an older chopper also,, love to hear the sound.
love the old Oliver nice machine
Love it (and I’m sure the cattle do too). I graze and bale sorghum sudan for my dairy cows 👍
They do! We are gonna chop some for silage as soon as the weather breaks again
Love your videos. What variety of oat is it?
I honestly don't know... we have been planting from our own bins for years.
@@biggins25801 You probably couldn't have come up with a better answer. Keep it up!
That combine is so cool
Gleaner ate
It has always been a reliable and efficient machine
@@biggins25801 That's all you need
I worked for a farmer years ago who had that model. He loved it. Great machine!
I remember very well, the smell of chopped corn. That's a smell I equate with late summer. Good memories.
Thanks for your video
Gleaner working great 👍
Nice video. Have been thinking about getting a combine or a picker here this year. Price of grain is getting out of hand, thinking making at least some of my own feed may be worth while. Having straw for bedding would be nice as well.
We only feed what we grow here, which makes it nice... still expensive but also slightly more cost effective
I've never worked for a farmer who raised rye... I love the old Gleaners and Oliver tractors. Spent a lot of time on both. I enjoy your videos.
We like it better than wheat for the straw, and it yields higher per acre with less inputs.
@@biggins25801 That makes it about as good as it gets then. I remember back in the late 50s I kid brought some rye straw to the county fair to bed his steers. I had never heard of it before then.
love seeing the old way of farming
I’ve never seen a crib like that. Are the walls perforated?
We spaced old barn roof metal on the sides to keep rain and critters out, while still being able to breathe. Its a regular wire crib underneath
@@biggins25801 Nice!
There’s that beautiful dog🙂👍🏻!
