CPO :: A Pilot in Training
Добавлен 10 мар 2015
This is a video log of my journey to receive my PPL (Private Pilot's License). I will update periodically throughout the process, and will include some flight videos as well. Also, I'll be providing tips or resources that I found helpful along the way.
I'll be joining a local aero club, training in a Cessna 152 (to save on costs), supplementing my training with volunteer activities with the Civil Air Patrol, using a flight simulator (Prepar3d/Microsoft Flight Simumulator), using self study tools such at Sporty's Ground School DVD/Online course, reading books such a "Stick and Rudder" and various other pilot training references.
My plan is to train efficiently. Not fast with the point of checking the box of a successfully check ride, but efficient so that time spent in the airplane (and particularly with an instructor) is well-spent, thus reducing overall training time, and thus, money.

CPO First Solo Flight : Full Lesson : C152 : PPL : Private Pilot
Well...the title says it all. It's my first solo! It wasn't without a little adventure, and I ended up having to ground the plane because of a problem I identified after my second solo lap around the pattern.
This is a longer than usual video from me...but if you want to just jump straight to the first solo, you can go to about 29:15. But why would you do that? That would be cheating! ;-)
Of course, the day started with a few laps in the pattern with my CFI, including an engine out failure (simulated). After those, she felt I was ready to go it alone.
Do you remember your first solo as a private pilot? I bet you do. I don't believe anyone can forget their first time with an empty right sea...

In this video, we did a lot of review and practice of previously learned maneuvers. However, we did start to dive more into emergency (engine-out) procedures. I also did short field takeoffs during this lesson. I see a lot of things I can do better in this video. I also keep forgetting to close my non-towered radio transmissions properly. I have many years of using a radio where I didn't have t...

Video is 45 minutes long. I accidentally ended up with a bunch of dead space at the end...so it appears to be much longer on the RUclips timer. I'll fix it later when I have some time. Do you like this wider angle view from the back?
CPO Flight Lesson 4 : C152 Turns Around a Point, S Turns, Forward Slips
Просмотров 1,5 тыс.9 лет назад
Finally got to lesson #4! Today we did some ground reference maneuvers. I'm trending at about one lesson per week, thanks to the crazy spring winds around here. Hopefully, I can pick up the pace soon. All in all, I think things are going okay. I am still looking forward to some dedicated pattern work... I feel like I have a long ways to go on the landings to be ready for solo. It will come. I'm...
CPO Flight Lesson 3 : C152 Power on Stalls, Slips, and Landings
Просмотров 2,8 тыс.9 лет назад
This lesson number 3. Finally! The practice area was swarming with Cessnas...but I managed to get in some power on stalls before heading back to KFME for a few landings and some pattern practice. Everything feels better after doing it a few times, so I expect that these things will become more refined over time. I seem to be able to develop more "feel" for the aircraft each time I fly. I need t...
CPO Flight Lesson 3 : Almost

Sorry for the shaky video...that window where the GoPro is mounted seems extra loose this morning. If it's too shaky to watch, just listen...the actual video is not really important. This was my third flight lesson...almost. Sometimes things don't work out the way you plan. Sometimes there's a lesson in that.
CPO Private Pilot Lesson 2 Pattern-Landing-Stalls 4-12-15 C152
Просмотров 2,4 тыс.9 лет назад
This is PPL flight lesson #2 for me in the C152. This was also my first take-off and landing. (The first lesson was way too windy for either.) It was still choppy today, particularly at pattern levels, but I assume this is just something that I'll be dealing with constantly. We practiced some pattern work in prep for the first landing. I did my first power-off stall recovery. And then went back...

Well...folks, this is it. This is my very first time in the airplane with my instructor, Vicki. I've been waiting a long time to get in the left seat. I wasn't actually scheduled for today, but the weather this week is supposed to be bad. I noticed a hole in the schedule and managed to squeeze in at the last minute before the weather degraded. In fact, the lesson after me was canceled because o...
CPO Tidbit : Sunglasses! Serengeti vs Ray-Ban
Просмотров 27 тыс.9 лет назад
I performed this Google search several times over the last few weeks: What is the best pair of sunglasses for a pilot? It turns out, I'm not the only one who has asked that question. Lots of student pilots or new private pilots seem interested in finding a good pair of sunglasses. I ran across a lot of answers that included Serengeti (specifically the Velocity) and Ray-Ban. So, I decided to che...
CPO Private Pilot Training : Lesson 01
Просмотров 8119 лет назад
My first REAL lesson in my PPL training is a lesson in patience! It seems like forever since I made the commitment to begin my training. However, the plane maintenance schedule and the weather have had different plans. It's been ridiculously windy over the last couple of weeks...and I haven't been able to get in a single flying lesson. This evening, however, my CFI asked me if I wanted to meet ...
Why is it called ZULU Time? Here's Why!
Просмотров 10 тыс.9 лет назад
I think most of us know that Zulu time represents GMT/UTC time, but I don't think everyone knows why we actually call it "Zulu" time. Why Zulu? Here's why! (And why there's a Romeo, Sierra, Tango, and Uniform time in the United States...)

I couldn't resist sharing this deal on a pair of sunglasses I stumbled across today. I you are looking for an inexpensive pair of glasses that work nicely under your aviation headset...check these out. They even have a gradient tint! Wowza! For this price, I couldn't think of a good reason not to give them a try! UnionBay U910 SLVBL
CPO Tidbit : Aviation Communications Practice (Listening) with LiveATC.net
Просмотров 4,2 тыс.9 лет назад
A quick video of something I found helpful. Listing to LiveATC.net while having the airport diagram handy. It turns out that listening to the Denton, TX tower frequency is very helpful...and there is a lot of student traffic! NOTE: I did cut out some dead space...so it sounds like a lot of people are taking off on top of each other, but in reality there was a little time between them.
Finally Understanding Class G and E Airspace Using 3D Modeling
Просмотров 113 тыс.9 лет назад
The alternative title for this video could be "Airspace Hurts My Head". LOL! As a student pilot seeking my Private Pilot Certificate, I believe that having a solid understanding of airspace is important. Questions about airspace are guaranteed to come up during the written exam, and probably just as guaranteed to come up during the check ride. I made this video not for you. I made it for me. Ok...

amazinggg! thank you!!!
Thank you for this. Now I get it!

I have the Serengeti drivers they are awesome
What did it for me was on the sectional charts legend it says class e is everywhere starting at 1200. Then the wine colored fade lines are the floor at 700 agl. Took me forever to really grasp that.
Get to the point.
this was INCREDIBLY well made, thank you!!! This is the only way airspace should be taught!!
failed to explain the whole laterally abuts thing
Your 3D really clarified G and E airspaces.
I'll probably get flak for saying this shit. I expect everyone to be SAFE and never fly when unsafe, but with the FAA, they are not happy unless you're UNHAPPY and you gotta LIE TO FLY. I had a damn FAA rep TELL me that. I could probably get him fired for saying that but he was just saying the truth. if you put on that medical your dick swole up one time from a whore in 72' you may just get denied.
I just recieved my medical records from FAA OKC, it took like 8 weeks for the big envelope to arrive !
Serengeti lens is the best, but you look better in the Ray Bans
Que me dices del serengeti aerial es que lo pienso para un regalo
SERENGETI RULES !!! Been wearing them since the 70s !!!
Thanks so much for the video. Can you share the model of your headset?
Under the bridge
You want to get a consult with the AME before filling out the online FAA form if you have history because if there is a problem with your medical history like in my case I have history from when I was a kid there is no records. I don't remember doctors names my parents are both passed on. I also have some odd medical issues that all my own doctors say there isn't any issues with yet the FAA may deny on all of that stuff because your dealing with someone who is in another state. Think of it this way you are dealing with a doctor who you can't speak with in person or on the phone. What they do is send letters and you respond with information, test results, and all that cost lot of money not something insurance will may for lot of times. The AME you deal with only responsible for the physical test after that your in the hands of a doctor who only corresponds by letter. Each letter will say if you don't get back to them in 60, or 90 days they will deny. If you get a deny then you can't fly light sport with a drivers license which is crazy. If you have medical history pay an AME for a consult if he says he can't issue a cert on the spot has to defer I would make sure he says 100% the FAA will issue. How much will the testing cost to get them to issue.
You totally confused me.
Thanks, man!

How did your flight training go? IFR rated yet? Great video. I have been using my uflymike for years, no issues whatsoever.
Very good..
Very good… I think I understand….thanks.
Great videos, noticed this happened 6 years ago, no new videos? are you still flying?
Good job on the modeling but I had a difficult time distinguishing your pronouncing B C D E & G. It would of been helpful to use the phonetics but thanks.
This is truly groundbreaking material! Kudos to you for such an excellent presentation! Not even the FAA with its huge amount of resources has developed anything remotely so intricate. You're going to be **The Preeminent Expert** regarding the National Airspace System. Keep the expanding and refining the model.
Amazing explanation sir! My hat is off to ya. Wouldn't it be nice if the FAA, or anyone else, to make a 3-D airspace model for anywhere in FAA's jurisdiction.
I must say that of all the videos I watched on airspace, this is my favorite. The 3D models really helped! Great job helping me pass my Part 107 test. Thanks.
Turbo medical NO LONGER AVAILABLE since Jan 1 2021
Never heard of that I heard for a class 3 they are taking up to a year to respond.
Settling up an investment that would benefit you is something one would be aiming towards. I wasn’t really a fan of online business because I have actually been doubting this all my life because I have been taken before by several scammers. But after my encounter with Luiz my prospective of online trade changes and I I’m now a millionaire from bitcoin.
Well done quite useful
Can't believe that you have only had 2 comments since 2015. This is a good video! Thank you for the pointers. I have always been amazed at how pilots repeat everything most of them right on the money. But yeah Denton is a busy airport. Thank you for sharing the knowledge you have on this topic.
Nice water heater telescope you have in the corner.
I’m too dumb for this
Bruh!!! Do not ever talk like that to Urself smh.. Its not You its how he explained it. He prolly doesn't have deep understanding to deliver it in simple terms...
Zulu - I think of Africa - Out of Africa - Darkness
If anyone knows how to get an ai to generate 3d models from a 2d map, it'll be pretty a good way to get me to give you money lol
what's the cost.
AME exam is cheap 100 bux if the FAA wants testing done could be thousands. It's all about current situation if you bumped your head 35 years ago when you were 10 years old on a skateboard the FAA will assume you might have a stroke any day and need MRI to confirm nothing wrong with your head. Medical insurance won't pay for things like that its all out of pocket.
Hi . Do you have any watsapp or instagram ?
CONTRADICTING....G not in east USA...At 7:30...G airspace is below E airspace at 1200 and lower. hahaha
As a Drone pilot I found this 3 D model Very Helpful! Since I am not permitted in controlled airspace without prior approval it is very valuable to understand where "G" really is ! Thank You !
You wasted the entire first half of your presentation with chat...
Excellent explanation and graphics. It took me a very long to understand this, and then every time I think I understand it I forgot until the next flight review.
This is a goo effort. Thanks.
I'm in flight school now, you saved my life with this video. Thank you!!!
With some very limited exceptions in remote and/or mountainous regions, Class G is everywhere that is not B, C, D or E to surface. Class G is not charted. It is either 700’AGL (fuzzy side of the magenta vignette) or 1200’AGL (solid side of the magenta vignette). That is basically it. Side bar - It is lowered from 1200’ to 700’ for enhanced protection of non-precision instrument approaches. Nice graphics. Great video.
Serengeti is much better of luxottica (Ray Ban) lens. The only near competitor of Serengeti is Maui Jim
But Maui doesnt make photochromatic.
Where can i found this kit for my bose qc15 ? Thanks
Video starts at 3:25
Good job..
