I'll try distracting myself with the "make sounds while riding". I remember a lady pro singing while riding, which I can't imagine doing, but hey, let's give it a try anyways ;)
Great content mate 👏 I was watching your preload explained vid again this morning before jump practise which really helped , just wanted to say thanks 👍
Thank you for watching. Knowing it helps means a lot!
Wait what's your bike again 😊
have fun, don't get too injured...longevity!
Breaking glass... does your front tire break the glass even with head and shoulders, after, or before?
Focus on your body not the bike. I find people that focus on the bike tend to overthink the process and have the hardest time learning technique, especially when precise timing is involved. Thanks for watching!
Trexler + Ebike = Chef's kiss
I can only imagine!
Great explanation on the foundational technique, thanks - so important to get the basics right rather than trying to do it all at once.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video. I am very guilty of the comfort braking. I've gotten better, but need to keep improving in this area. I took away a few things to try on my next ride, Thanks! Super glad that cracked frame didn't lead to a nasty crash.
If you reduce comfort braking the front wheel, I think you'll notice a huge benefit in suspension performance and traction. Thanks for checking the vid out and appreciate the comment.
GREAT COMPACT TIPS! DO YOU RIDE RIGHT FOOT FORWARD?
I ride either foot forward but right foot forward is my nature foot position.
So is your bike okay?
It is now. Warranty replacement and like new. Thanks!
Great video - super helpful - sucks about your frame but it will lead to better things 🎉🎉.. The cornering info and the glass breaking on jumps stuff is going to be super helpful .. can’t wait to go ride 👍🏼
Thanks! Appreciate it.
7:12 should be a YT short
Good vid! Something I’ve noticed is almost every mtb channel talks about how to go faster. I think if we just focus on the fundamentals the speed naturally follows!
100%. Going "fast" is a sum of its parts...that is if you want to go fast and remain in control. Thanks for watching and I appreciate the comment.
"A deer on the table" - would it be correct to call deer on the table venison? :D
haha! fist bump
I'm a little proud of my bike because it facilitates the riding I'm proud of

Fantastic tips, Josh!! As @trailsage said, we were just talking about jumping technique on the 'Ride and Laugh podcast' so that, "breaking the glass" tip is perfect!! Can't wait to try it out!! Appreciate you and these videos!!
I listened to the podcast. That was a great one! Highly recommended. Thanks for watching and I appreciate the comment.
"You're welcome" My kind of humor. If you ever head to Bentonville, AR, I'll be glad to show you around. Another great vid - keep up the great work!
Thanks for watching and I appreciate the offer!
I've been subscribed for a while and your advice is always legit and helpful, time for me to give back a little, hope it helps 👍
Thanks so much! It means a lot to me that you find value in these vids and I appreciate the Super Thanks!
Another video with really important topics and ways to improve techniques for faster/safer riding, keep it up! Comfort braking is a big one that holds back riders of all levels. I always suggest to riders that they find a very familiar trail or section of trail (no double black diamond DH stuff, just something moderate with nice flow) and work on riding it over and over using minimal-to-no braking. Ideally working up to doing it with no fingers on brakes at all. Or try doing an entire run using just front or back brakes. Or not pedaling at all, just pumping and keeping your roll speed through corners. Like you said, the bike works shockingly better on bumps, jumps, and corners without yanking levers constantly or having to pedal in places you don't want to pedal. Also, your mind/body will adapt to sharper reactions and better line choices because of it.
Great comment! 100% Appreciate the insight!
Years ago I came across a video recommending to sing or hum a tune while doing drops. This was supposed to help take your mind off of the scary thing that doing drops can be. In my experience it actually works very well and helps to distract your brain just enough do not doubt yourself and help execute the movement your body knows already (assuming you have actually practiced the movement/technique)
Thanks for watching! Appreciate it!
The shoulder forward when cornering tip is something I figured out for myself in the French Alps last summer. I rode several bike parks and was frustratingly slow/nervous in steep corners until I had this lightbulb moment. It really does make a difference. I also adjusted my brake levers to enhance the technique. I hear what you say about optimum lever position; and this is how mine used to be set up. However, lowering my brake levers forces my hands to roll forward slightly on the bars, which I find really helps me get my outside elbow up in the corners. I tweaked the lever angle numerous times to get the perfect set up for me and, rolling the levers back to where they used to be noticeably hampered me getting my outside elbow up in the turns. Fortunately, I have not experienced any forearm pump or other problems since doing this. It's been all positive with no negatives. I recommend people try this if, like me, they struggle with cornering fast. Great tips.
Appreciate the comment! Lever angle is different for everyone but there is a best angle for every. It's easy to adjust and like you mentioned, it's worth experimenting with. Thanks for watching!
Love the "break the glass" visual! Oh man, we just talked about break lever angles on tmrw's Ride and Laugh MTB Podcast, great minds ;) Another banger video Josh.
Thanks for watching Sage. As always, I'm looking forward to the Ride and Laugh MTB Podcast. Fist bump.
I always wanted to ask this: are you originally from the New England area? I hear a faint New Englander accent. Or maybe Ive worked too long in Boston 😂
My parents are from Binghampton NY and my toddler talk came from hearing what they had to say. However, I grew up in PA.
Love me some Blue Mtn! Keep it Steezy J 👍👍🤘🇺🇸
I am the opposite, I seem to think I am bad no matter how much I try.
I hear ya. Me too. It's easy to get bummed out but just remember to step back and compare your skills to the past. It's easy to overlook progress when you're focused on what you can improve on. Thanks for watching!
Great tips! Thank you!
Sure thing. Thanks for watching!
So what cracked? Chainstay?
Chainstay just behind the BB. I couldn't see the crack because the bike was covered in dust but man, something felt off. While a cracked frame is something no one want to deal with, the fact that I rode the bike park a full day with a cracked frame and the chainstay held up is confidence inspiring. Propain NA was quick with the warranty replacement.
@ I figured it was. Mine did the same thing. Propain had me a new frame in 8 days.
Yet another great vid. Love your perspective and the mental breakthrough items are on point. Plus your be kind personality is what we all need. Keep it up.
Thanks for watching and appreciate the comment. Being a good person is more important than being a good bike rider. People won't remember the guy that skied past them on the jump but they will remember the guy that stopped to make sure all was well.
@ 100%
Love your videos man. How long have you had your Propane before that happened?
Thanks! Appreciate that. I've had the Tyee for a little over a year before that happened. I ride every week and every season. Materials fail, but good customer service shouldn't. They don't know me from a hole in the wall and Propain NA got me back up and running quickly. Thanks for watching.
@slantedground Glad to hear they took care of you. I want an enduro and have been checking out the Tyee. The build your own option is one of the coolest things, I'm surprised more brands don't do that. Hard to beat their prices too. If you don't mind sharing, have you noticed any cons with the Tyee?
Good stuff!
Enjoyed the tips. You have a really good channel going!
Don’t even remember how your channel popped up but it’s easily one of my favorites now. Keep it up dude. Great information as usual and you make that shredding look silky smooth.
same happened for me. a random click turned out to be one of the top-tier instructional riders out there.
Thanks so much! Appreciate it!
Another great video, thank you, now I’m gonna smash some glass!!! 😜
If you watched the video know that I appreciate it so much! Have a great one!
Your definitely the best online “coach” your tips are really helpful
New video when the chain stay snaps?
That was an excellent example of what I assume most of us do on a typical trail ride. Sadly, it's easy to forget that we're out to have fun! Thanks for the reminder.
Great format of the video! No fast cuts, no hyped narration with no time to process, lots of repetition. Big MTB channels are so annoying when trying to teach you anything. Instant sub.
Nice, keep the content coming! This is why I'm lucky to have multiple bikes. Trail/Enduro to smash and progress, easier on this old body to not be afraid to case jumps and smooth out my mistakes. But I have so much fun on my "downcountry" hardtail, picking out smooth lines, or gripping and ripping lines I'd take on my FS bikes.
Just ride. The progression will come.
Excellent video, why does the Devil have the best tunes and all the best Woods?
Thanks for watching! To answer your questions, it must be all these desperate people making deals.
Um, first of all, that winder breaker is DOPE! Great video Josh, hilarious opener and commentary throughout, lol. You're elite in my book ;)
Thank you sir!
Stava says this video is rad.
Fist bump Strava
Dude, sucks about your frame. How did that happen? If it's still under warranty let us know how that process goes. Love the video btw, good message and funny 😆
Hey thanks so much! I'm not sure how it happened, it just instantly felt weird. I thought something was loose because at the time it was covered in a thin layer of dust. After washing, sure enough, a chainstay crack. Propain Customer Service took care of it. All-in-all, it took about a week and a half to get a new rear triangle. Thanks for the comment! Appreciate it.
@slantedground Glad to hear they took care of you and quick. I saw on the tips video that came after this where you first noticed it. Glad it didn't self destruct on one of those jumps or drops.
Brilliant video Josh, and so true 👊👌
a SEVENTEEN minute piss?? jeez man, might wanna see a urologist about that one! 😂
Yes!! Fantastic message, Josh! "Measure Fun Not Failure " shirt is awesome! Love that Slanted Ground jacket, too! 🔥
I'm too short to be elite. I'd have to be micro elite.
I appreciate the reminder and perspective. Though I feel like it's an ongoing thing that needs reminding, I've recently really been trying to keep this in mind. I love mountain biking and part of the fun and drive is to keep improving, but that can also cause me issues if my motivation and desire to progress becomes about my ego instead of the love of it and the joy continuing to progress brings. I grew up skateboarding and got so obsessed with progressing and pushing what I could do with it, I lost the love and joy of it for a time. Fortunately, I've been able to keep mountain biking sacred in that I haven't gotten lost in feeling a need to be at a certain level or to be competitive. I want it to always be that thing I love but never lose sight of the point.
Your vids rock bro!
"Strava says land to flat" No wonder you have a cracked frame:)
