What is this, a telescope for ants?
I made a model telescope.
After taking up astronomy a while ago I thought it would kinda cool to have an ornamental desktop scope. I based it on a Dobsonian type.
I rattled this off on my Myford Super 7 and general fabrication over the course of around 3 days.
Im chuffed with it. Its certainly unique!

I just completed a series of 12 of these models. This one being my own proto airframe ! I would love to do a second version, a MK2 ! If you think you might be interested then do give me a message. The MK2 would be slightly more detailed, potentially with some panel lines etc I will also love to do an ME/BF 109 in the same vain as this. Thank you for checking in. Hope you like it. Chinese Diesel Heater for the Workshop. Any good? - workshop setup and info.
Просмотров 769Год назад
I just installed one of these new fangled diesel heaters for the workshop. Initial testing looks promising. Apparently the licence/patent expired on these so the Chinese as they do reverse engineered them and are currently selling them in their bucket loads. Will it help with the cost of living by more economically heating my workshop ? Time will tell.

Stuart Turner No 4 running on Karcher steam cleaner steam !!
Просмотров 2912 года назад
I dont have a boiler and since finishing this engine a few years ago have always ran it on air. While doing some pre xmas cleaning in the house it occurred to me that the steam from the Karcher might be enough to at least get it ticking over. It exceeded my expectations and gives tons of unlimited steam to the engine !! lol

Could you also engrave an already-made dial with an SVG vector logo?
How do you apply luminous pouder please?
The bottom layer is lacquered and I dip it flat in the Lume. I lacquer it again and repeat the process
Thanks for the great video, maybe there are the settings for LightBurn also my Laser Monport 30W fiber laser with auto focus I would be very happy to get an answer thanks, what I hadn't found were the settings for the Q-PULS. Wish you a nice day and thank you JeanLuc
Holy hell it worked perfectly! Just adjusted power slightly (25w laser), upped to 50% and bingo. Cheers dude. I can live with reduced speed if it gives jet black marking. Nice one!
Used this setup, 30w fiber Galvo laser, rough/bead blasted stainless steel, I get super black marks when looking dead on, however on an angle the marks almost disappear. This isn’t a reflective stainless surface, it’s very rough, but it seems as though the laser actually smooths / flattens the area it marked and now it’s only visible mark from specific angles. It’s very black from dead on however, I used a 20w diode laser on same material and got perfect black from every angle. So not sure what to do? Anyone have any ideas?
stunning result just very slow
I have been trying the z mark black settings on rose gold plated stainless steel. sometimes i get a black mark and sometimes the laser doesnt cut through the plating, even after 4+ passes. Would you reccomend running an initial pass at a higher power to get through the coating and then running the z mark black pass after defocsuing 3mm?
Yep, I would defo try that first. I would run an engrave focused on the RG first and try get that off before trying the offset black. If its plated I imagine its super thin and wont take much to take off ? Start low power and work up.
This is a good workaround at the trade-off for being VERY VERY slow. Thanks for posting the solution though, much appreciated.
Yes. Unfortunately its a slow proccess 😞
how do you apply the black mate? Paint? Let dry them polish?
Yes. So after engraving I take off the small burs left behind with a one of those square sanding pads. I clean/wash of the dust etc and then apply the paint. After its dry I take a new pad and gently sand across the top.
how u fit reader to mill ? easy job or ?
You did say it was a laser, right? Question, is it a diode 10, 20 watt and you spray black lacquer or moly lube? I like this technique because it’s clean than using a battery supply.
Its a 60 watt Co2 I did this on, yes. The spray is nothing more technical than Halfords mat black. You wont need 60 watt, it took the layer of paint off on a low power.
What about the feet? how are you doing those? I use a battery spot welder to attach them.
I havent sussed that out yet. LOL !
A Supreme Work of Art!!! Brilliant. Right from the toggles and LEDs to initiate it.
Thank you very much indeed. :-) I appreciate the comment.
Great process. How do you add the dial pins on back to secure them to watch movements?
Good tune
Absolutely stunning work! Do you sell custom pieces like these?
Does it work with 30W fiber laser? or is it necesary to use a 50W one??...and beside that, ¿what machine are you using? Thanks for your content
Awesome small shop. VERY impressive work as well. Really enjoyed watching 🤙🏻🤙🏻
well done!
Will you do 2 dials costume made , my son is getting married this year?? If you do please let me know
This is probably a stupid question... But that works just fine with most steels as well?
yeah fine. Coolant or dribbles of oil for the steels👍
😅.....
Can you use a diode laser for this?
Im not sure to be honest. Not quite sure what they are. If a diode laser will take paint off metal then I see no reason why it wont work
Pure artistry ❤️😊
Thank you 😊
Great set up thanks for showing your workshop👍
wondering if anyone can convert these settings to lightburn?
Hello. Do you can to give a parameters for obtain a gold and white color too,my friend? For Raycus 50w with lens for workspace 250x250mm, please...?
Hey bro I have a JPT 50w I’ve been working with that effect since like 2years ago my parameters for black is 1000 speed 80% power 80mhz Please this is very important, never but never focus the laser put lake 1-2mm away from focus up, same as the sir explains on the video
Which metal? Or non metal Effect of heat and radiation? How Energy supply to move continuously? Effect of gravity?
The machine is made from aluminium and brass etc.
Why model an ejector seat….am I missing something?
I was in the RAF for a long ish time as a Survival Equipment fitter. We worked closely with the Armourers who serviced seats. Here is the link to the finished article :-) Thank you www.gasgasbones.com/us16e-ejection-seat
Hi , what model Raycus? QB? QS? Or is it a JPT? Thanks
anyone else do the Zoolander voice?
🙂
The biggest issue with that design is... Dirt
You know... that's much smaller than, and pretty the same design as, Newton's telescope! He used a ball mount, and yours is a little fancier... I don't think he had a lathe; I don't know. Anyway, you could make yours work fairly easily -- it's just the optics needed! I don't know how you'd get your eye in there at the eyepiece, though... little bit of a squint! So there's the challenge... how small could you make a functional telescope? 🙂
Yes, the eyepiece is 4mm so definitely a squint would be required :-)
@@bonesshed. Some short focal length eyepieces, especially earlier or simple designs, have exit lenses about that size... or smaller! :-) Tiny little lenses. You get your eyelash oils all over them because there's no eye relief, and you have to get so close. Pretty crazy stuff. Modern designs are so much easier, with all that eye relief! I guess what you would do is use a larger external eyepiece that focuses down on the tiny eyepiece. Probably somebody who knows optics could figure it out. Let's call Nagler. ;-)
Superb, brilliant skills and a nice brew in the background.
Thank you. Yes, usually have a brew on the go :-)
Never noticed how wobbly the atmosphere is until this video
Yes, it can be. Last night was super cold and much less 'wobble' :-)
10" Dobs are great. I unfortunately got mine at the same time that I bought my astrophotography setup, so it's been severely neglected! But you should check out the Orion Nebula too, it's easily visible with a Dob, and this is the perfect time of year for it..
I defo will. I have to learn where it is and if the moon will mess up my viewing. Lots to learn but having fun. Jupiter was spectacular just now but its so cold outside I only did an hour.
@@bonesshed. The Orion Nebula is quite easy to find, it's basically down around Orion's "back knee". But yea, I might get mine out later to have a look too, but the moon usually puts a bit of a dampener on things because it's so bright, unless you're looking at the moon of course!
Coming back to this. I found the Neb no bother but since then have purchased a ZWO Seestar and captured some amazing pics of stuff !!@@JoeBob79569
Very nice again! Thanks for the "bright spot" in my day! 🙂
Hi, does it rust? Especially on the marked surface. I am using SS304 and can see rust on marked surface.
Hi Tommy, No, it should not rust as its stainless steel.
Nice work job well done
Thank you, David.
Fantastic
Very nice! Thanks for this astronomy not overwhelmed with computing. 🙂
I'll give you one tip - don't leave your chuck key in the chuck.
Cracking workshop and beautiful projects, Quality work👌👍
What Version of EZCAD2 are you using? I don't have the offset options at the bottom of my screen.
Awesome thanks 🙏👍🏻
I got a 160 square foot workshop and was wondering how the diesel heater was holding up?
What do you do about the dial feet that attaches to the movement?
Good question. I havent got that far yet. Lol. I havent really progressed from here TBH.. I have a couple of cases to try but I just havent had the time of late to do much ! I will likely make a jig to drop the feet in place while I solder them.
Can you please tell me the cheapest metal engraving machine out there?
Honestly, I dont have a clue. There are so many.
Looks good! I was tempted to buy one last winter but they were all out of stock. So its getting cold again, so tempted again, my Workshop is a similar size, so my question is how have you found it throughout last winter, does it provide enough heat, and what are the running costs? Thanks
Hi Ade, sorry for the late reply. It does a fair job. I never found it got toasty hot though. Im not sure if my shed, which although lagged, as some holes in it for ventilation etc and the fact I have large lumps of metal in it doesnt help ! It needs to be on a while to get the heat in the room.
@@bonesshed. Thanks
HI! how thick is the metal sheet did you use?
ooops. sorry. 2mm I think
