Figurado Wrapping Speedrun
Watch me fumble around, trying to wrap a complicated figurado cigar. The shape is loosely based on the Fuente Opus X LBMF.

Small Wrapper Leaf - Big Cigar
Просмотров 5772 месяца назад
I have some Cameroon cigar wrapper leaf that is quite short and narrow. A well-adjusted person might use it to roll Petite Coronas or other small format cigars. Here, I try to max out the size completely and roll a stick with 5-1/2 x 53 final dimension. I didn't think there was enough room for the separate flag of a triple cap, so I end up doing a sloppy double cap. Not an inch to spare.
Woodworking and Rolling Cigars: First Time Using my Home-made Belicoso Fino Mold
Просмотров 7 тыс.2 месяца назад
I've been trying to design and make a wooden cigar mold that produces a shape exactly like the Bolivar Belicoso Fino (140mm x 52), including the correct curvature at the head. Woodworking in the heat is tough, but after several failed attempts I've made the first acceptable prototype today. This video is the very first time using it. What I end up rolling is more of a pointy torpedo than a true...
Double Cap on a Torpedo Cigar

Rolling cigars: Wrapping a small torpedo with a double cap. As the cigar dries, the transition between the first and the second cap becomes invisible, and the pointed tip ends up looking very clean. 5-1/4 x 34 final size.
Bunching Cigars - Fiver of Small Torpedos

I'm bunching a few small cigars in my kitchen this morning. The mold makes 5-1/4 long bunches with a tapered head, and the finished sticks usually turn out around 5 x 33. Perfect size for a short lunchtime smoke.
Rolling a big cigar outside - Churchill

Rolling a cigar at my patio table on a nice Spring day. The binder is Brazilian, the filler Nicaraguan, and the wrapper Ecuadorian maduro. Assembled in the USA with global materials. Bunched in the late AM, and wrapped in the PM after about 5 hours in the mold. The finished stick measures in at 7 x 47.

    thats a really nice looking mold, but those walls on the top piece are wayyyy too thin. you will find that they are going to start cracking and breaking off after just a handfull of cigars. next molds you make, you should make those walls around 3/32" or even 1/8" thick. that is the standard thickness of professionally made cigar molds made out of wood. the molds take a tremendous amount of pressure and abuse during the pressing and repeated opening and closing. It is a wonderful first mold though!! would love to see your process in making it.

      @@CatharsisCigarsI was wondering what it was. I have seen an old Vietnamese woman making cigarettes and the paper had no glue strip. She was using some kind of sticky rice flour or rice starch basically on a Q tip and that's how she was bonding the cigarette paper together. It was like one of those cigarette makers that use thick plastic film, almost like tarp that the tobacco and paper sit in to roll it, but instead of a single cigarette at a time it was super wide and would do 5 cigarettes end to end. Then she'd just chop them with scissors. Could whack out HUGE quantities of cigarettes doing it a few hours a day.

    How do you store your tobacco leaves and keep them at a good humidity? I leave mine in the bags they come in and try to keep them sealed, but they eventually dry out and even the fillers get way too dry. Also how important is it keeping the room at a good humidity while you roll? Also what blends do you use? I currently have Nic shade wrapper, Nic Esteli Viso, and Criollo seco. Struggling a bit because I don't have a binder as WLT is always sold out.

    • @CatharsisCigars
      @CatharsisCigars Месяц назад

      I keep leaf in plastic totes in the garage. The rolling room just is what it is. It's challenging for me in the summer because the AC keeps humidity low (in the 40s). Your climate will vary. For binder, you can use the seco or a wrapper leaf that didn't make the cut. That's what I do. I actually don't have anything on hand that's sold as "binder".

    • @geoffrey6000
      @geoffrey6000 Месяц назад

      @@CatharsisCigars I might need to get some then. Do you put any humidity packs in the totes? I tried using the seco and even the viso as binder, but I had trouble keeping them lit for some reason. Maybe I just need to let them dry for more than a week.

      I designed it in Fusion, cleared some material with a drill press, then gave it the final shape using a little Chinese 3018 table top CNC. At some point I may make a video (or a series) on how I make these.

      Thanks! About an hour or two is usually good for wooden molds. Plastic molds maybe a bit longer. Rotate by 90 degrees after 20 minutes or so to avoid creases on the side. That said, I've left cigars in their mold anywhere from 10 minutes up to maybe a month (forgot them in the mold) and they turned out fine.

      @@bonelessrocker Hey brother, as a new roller myself, you might want to hold off on the molds until you have some cigars under your belt. Getting the bunching correctly the same on every cigar is very difficult. If you look into paper molding it works on any size you end up rolling and costs virtually nothing. Good luck, it's a lot of fun and very rewarding in the end.

      @@bonelessrocker You are very welcome, please do come back and let me know how you make out. Did you order a kit? I have ordered two from Whole Leaf but they sell smaller kits than Leaf Only. I have purchased 2 one pound kits and gotten 40 cigars including a couple of Cuban Sandwiches from the scraps. The hardest part has been getting the tightness of the roll right for a proper draw, but it only means I get to smoke more cigars experimenting. I think I hit it right around #6. I was trying to roll them too tightly. Also if they are a little loose you can always tighten them with the paper molding after testing the draw. Better too loose than too tight in my experience so far.
