Robert, undoubtedly. Even though I had their blessings, the guests aren't always aware. To be fair, nobody there that day gave me any grief about it, I think I was the one most cognizant of the the drone, and rightfully so. You're also correct about flying low and close to get the better shots. I used an M3P, which I know is the same drone you use for your productions. So I am sure you are well aware of the limitations of the camera zoom. I actually used 1080p instead of 4k, just so I could zoom in, but the loss in clarity is significant. I wish now that I had just used 4k the whole time, and then zoomed in during post-production. Hindsight is 20/20.

@@mattsarizonaaerials my motivation for learning how to do videos in the first place was a Jeep guy named Brad, his channel is Trail Recon. He had a very good point that he always shot in 4K so he could punch in with clarity to 1080p. His timelines were in 1080p and his uploads (two years ago) were 1080p as well. I’ve tried it and of course the file sizes (and rendering capabilities) are much less, but primarily shooting landscapes, you still lose details if you don’t shoot 4K.

@@desertexplorations, so true. I have an affinity for landscape videos, as it seems you do as well. I shoot all of my landscape videos with 4k without exception. There's just so much more flexibility in post with that format. On a side note, I know you shoot primarily desert video, but have you ever thought about heading a little bit further out for a little bit of diverse subject matter? I know a great place, in close proximity to Roosevelt Lake, that has some truly spectacular scenic vistas. Where exactly were you standing while you were flying your drone when the police officer approached you?

Not the Tempe beach park (I saw that’s the only no take off/landing zone). I was on the north side of the lake, between two Tempe town lake bridges. Feel the officers just don’t know anything about the regulation (I am flying DJI mini2 which doesn’t require any registration) I am new to drone community so I might be wrong. But don’t want any trouble so didn’t argue and just left.

@@peterlin4653 I use this link as a reference. www.tempe.gov/government/sustainability-and-resilience/aircraft-noise/hobbyist-drones This link is hosted by the City of Tempe, so it's official. Specifically, scroll about halfway down and you will see they have two five-mile maps. There are some red areas depicted that indicate the specific areas where you are not allowed to launch or land. Other than that, ALL airspace nationally is regulated solely by the FAA. You are subject to all rules set forth by the FAA. My suggestion to you is to do your research before you fly, as well as get your TRUST and Part 107 Remote Pilot certificate. In the area around Tempe Town Lake, the FAA restricts drone flights to 100'. You can use apps like Air Control by Aloft, and/or B4UFly to gain automated airspace flight approval within controlled airspace, known as LAANC (Low Altitude Authorization Notification Capability). That area in and around Tempe Town Lake is Class B airspace for Sky Harbor (KPHX). You need to be very diligent when flying in that area due to approaching and departing commercial passenger aircraft, as well as tons of low power lines, people, automobile traffic, etc. Seriously, and I mean this with all due respect, go get your certification. It will force you to learn and understand the rules of UAS operations. Keep me updated with your progress. I'm interested to know what you decide to do. @@mattsarizonaaerials Word. I'm actually in Tucson, which is about 2 hours southeast of PHX. We are actually considered a "college town" ourselves to some people, with the University of Arizona being here. I just meant it in terms of skyscrapers, high-rises & downtown central business district correlation. Tempe appears to operate economically similar as a Metro/Urban suburb the way Bellevue & Vancouver relate to Seattle & Portland. However, I've spent some time in Bellevue & Bellevue's downtown skyline is much bigger in scale. But still somewhat similar in comparison. It's kinda like Burbank or Long Beach for Los Angeles. They both have high-rises in their downtown skylines. Glendale in Cali is kinda sorta large as well.

Thank you for the kind words. 100' is all you get in this area. It's not a lot of space, and there are LOTS of high-risk obstacles, not the least of which are power lines. They're everywhere, so you really have to watch out. Also, there is only a small area on the northwest area of the lake that you can launch from. Either that or all the way on the northeast side.

Acquiring a Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate definitely helps because that means you've studied and passed the FAA's examination, and hopefully understand all of the rules associated with the operation of small unmanned aerial systems. That said, I do have my Part 107 certification, and regarding this video, I researched the area well ahead of time. Using the Air Control app (anyone can download this for free from Google Play or Apple Store), you can see that the entire area where I filmed this has a 100' ceiling due to its proximity to Sky Harbor Airport. I simply used the app to select the area and time I wished to fly, then submitted the request via the app. It literally takes about 30 seconds to submit and get approval. The approval gets sent as a text to your phone, and you get an email too. Be aware that Tempe Beach Park has some restrictions on where you can take off and land from, so to avoid those restrictions, I staged and launched from the east side of the lake (east of Scottsdale Rd.), outside of their restriction zones. Additionally, there are a LOT of power lines in the area all up and down the length of the the lake, so always be wary of those. Due to proximity to Sky Harbor airport, also be sure to maintain visual line of sight (VLOS) with your drone at all times, as well as keep it at or under the 100' ceiling limit, and you'll be fine. I was thinking to take the shot from the bridge which goes to Mill Ave And also some shots from my rooftop as I live near this location I have a question if i hand over the drone to my friend to record a clip of me doing some activities then is it mandatory for him to get the permission as well ?

@@mayankjha3215 How do you plan on using the photos and videos? If you plan to use them for anything other than personal recreational use, then you are required by the FAA to have a Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification. Assuming you have a Part 107, then you could act as the "Pilot In Command", thus allowing someone else (even if they do not have a Part 107 Certification) to fly your drone. However, the devil is in the details. You would still be required to have the ability to take over control of the drone from the other person at a moment's notice if something were to go wrong. If you plan to use any of your footage commercially, or to make money in some way, or give your footage to someone else to use for something along those lines, you are required to have your certification.

@@mattsarizonaaerials Thank you for your replies. Just an update I registered my drone and got my Trust certificate. As I won’t be monetising right now do I still need RPC ? I got advised from FAA that just to be on the safer side I should get RPC but in most places I found that if I am flying for recreational purposes then I don’t need to.

@@mayankjha3215 getting your TRUST cert is a great first step, but I would heed the advice of the FAA and just go ahead and get your Part 107 RPC. It will only help you become a more competent and safe pilot. I am not a paid endorser, but I highly recommend Pilot Institute's online Part 107 program. You can look them up and find them online.
