    Woody was BOTH a good leader and a bad leader. Buzz help showed his true colors from being a good leader on the surface and then helped form him back to being a good leader

    I do not take the critical view of the US as a negative. This film hits so many good notes. Political or otherwise. Criticism is what makes improvement. Not standing on current times

    I believe the theory that Woody was a hand me down toy from Andy's late father but since it was pointed out that Woody was Andy's favorite since Kindergarten, Andy must have got him before he died because I don't want to believe a theory that Andy and Molly have different dads

    Great video, you hit the nail on the head with Woody. They seem like they should act older than Andy because of the adult voices, but they are actually more childish. And Toy Story 1 is also my favorite Toy Story. I love the others, but they just don’t feel like the first one did. It’s kind of magical as a short self-contained story and the early animation adds to that.

    As an American, I've always found it sad how Miyazaki portrays us and thinks of us. I think it's understandable, but misguided. He only sees -- and portrays in Curtiss -- the worst parts of Americans; the natural dark sides of our best traits. We more than any other country truly believe that you can be anything you want to be, that you should have the freedom to do what you want, and that you are strong and brilliant enough to make it happen! But the flaw that can grow out of that is too much pride and individualism. It's sad to see only THAT displayed by one of my favorite directors, instead of nuance. Another area I wish he had more nuance in is war. I completely understand why he is a passivist, given his past, and I can empathize with that. But I don't think it's right or true to paint _all_ war and violence as wrong and evil. Sometimes, war and violence are sadly necessary. To protect your loved ones from evil people who want to kill and torture them (as the terrorist groups of the Middle East _literally_ hate us and want to eradicate us, to name just _one_ example). Protecting yourself and your people is justified. Additionally, we've been at war for so long mostly because we're surrounded by countries ruled by totalitarians who hate us, and hate that _their_ people want to _flock_ to our country because they'll be freer here. I don't think all the wars we've been involved in or waged have been justified... but we're a country almost constantly at war for a different reason. The totalitarian powers of this world want to see us wiped out, because we demonstrate from our very founding that people CAN stand up to the monarchs and elites who control them, take back power, and give themselves freedom and the weapons to defend that freedom. Great video!

    I mean, to be fair, one could make the argument that Mr. Potato Head and the other toys helped contribute to Woody's jealousy towards Buzz and his misguided actions by ignoring him and gushing over Buzz. In Slinky and Rex's case they were Innocently Insensitive, Mr. Potato Head was intentionally being a jerk to Woody and rubbing his feelings of inadequacy to Buzz in his face ("Yeah, like the attic!"). So the blame is kind of fifty-fifty. Buzz was also kind of at fault for him and Woody getting separated from Andy because it was him tackling Woody that resulted in them falling out of the car (that's not to say Woody is free of fault, but he's not the only one at fault).

    Don't make any more political commentaries that are made up purely of outlandish talking points that could be so easily refuted, since all you do is straw man. Ok? Your depictions of American foreign policy are utterly terrible, and show a complete lack of understanding of the world or history. The Ukrainian war should show you why the US does what it does. Without U.S "meddling" ....Russia invaded Ukraine. Almost like this is what America has been trying to do all along? Make a free, democratic, and at least nominally capitalist world?

  • @Jordblitz

    Like most determined pacifists, Miyazaki's politics.....are pretty stupid. Fascism is clearly the enemy in Porko, yet no such enemy exists in his work regarding WW2 era Japan, who were a far more violent breed of Fascist than Italy ever was, only falling short to Germany. Miyazaki is a hypocrite, who would prefer to see the world through a completely arbitrary lens of his own making, rather than the complex and multifaceted place that it is. Violence is necessary at times, and even if it should be avoided if at all possible, to inflict violence is not inherently evil or even bad if done for a just cause; ie, to fight against those inflicting pain and violence on others. The fact that Miyazaki has the audacity to criticize the US in such an obvious way, while avoiding any retrospection about his own country's objectively FAR WORSE history, is extremely hypocritical and idiotic

      It's an inferiority complex that some in the world have. They resent the fact that the US is the "big dog" despite, on some level understanding how the US creates a stable, free, democratic, and prosperous world.

    i think at it's core it's that miyazaki doesn't hate *americans* simply for being americans, he hates america and the americans that "buy into their own hype" so to speak

    • @Jordblitz
      @Jordblitz Год назад

      No, he clearly hates America simply as America. He is a bigot. If you hate items produced by America, and hate American culture simply because it comes from America.....that's not ok. Miyazaki is kind of a terrible person, even if he makes fantastic art. I mean come on.....he hates the idea of Japanese people enjoying American culture. That's bigotry at it's most basic. He has an inferiority complex, and has the basics of a fascist mindset. It makes sense considering he seems to have no objection to his country's fascist history. It's people like Miyazaki that make American foreign involvement necessary.
