You should have added walls to your shelter to keep out the wind and to maintain your body heat

He should have made a fire first, then shelter and then food and water

No need to make an good shelter off the bat just something that will keep the snow, rain off and to keep the wind out to keep you warm

SUGGESTION...Norway dude, if you dont want wood to split when you hammer it, put another piece that is slightly bigger on top of it. The top piece is the sacraficial piece
