I've never come across a mantra video like this before. Inserting the words of Medicine Buddha in between the mantra repetitions is really effective and very moving. I came here for a soothing mantra to ease my migraine but I genuinely feel moved spirituality as well. I know this video is pretty old now but thank you so much for uploading it - I really hope it stays around.

Hmm in the Christian/European courtly love tradition however, or even as Socrates says in Plato’s Symposium, Love/Eros is suppose to wake us up to the greater and greater aspects of our selves and spur us on to greater and greater deeds until we achieve consummation! Then the two become one flesh.

This chant is very touching. The great vows of Medicine Buddha shows his great compassion for all beings, and them alone shows a path to recovery. Actually, the noble eightfold path, the three refuges and the five precepts are a way to physical, mental and spiritual wellness for all living beings, even those that aren’t Buddhist. If I had to study medicine, I would certainly ask Medicine Buddha for protection, assistance, and truth, so that his noble mission becomes my noble mission. May the Medicine Buddha heals all spiritual and physical suffering, and take us to the other shore. Sadhu 🙏🏻

What is so spectacular about his answer? I just don't get it. I'm not impressed.
He’s teaching his student that the type fo romantic love he has asked about requires both to see themselves as separate/alone/desolate...or they wouldn’t see and feel the strong desire to be brought together and bind to the other. Buddhist meditation works on a number of qualities at multiple levels of mind with a strong set of “tools” of sorts for helping students unburden themselves of the dualistic view (seeing ourselves as separate from others). We arise compassion in practice to arise bodhicitta, which includes an appreciation and love for all people, and an understanding the universal properties of suffering... As students, you’d not really know where your efforts are guiding you if you simply try to first resolve your feelings of loneliness and the associated sadness it can bring by grabbing onto a partner to resolve that loneliness existing in you before you make the efforts to practice. Instead, he encourage working with the loneliness...feeling it, and working with it in your practice to understand it, and release it. It is much better to ground yourself in this way regardless if you chose to later live as partners with someone else or not at all.

Perhaps you don't have to take yourself so seriously either?
You can find a lot of things you could call Chögyam Trungpa to slander him with some basis, but ”con artist” would not be one of them. And at least in the light of his Shambhala teachings, this was all very understandable. What part did you not get?

I had the same reaction. Anybody could have said these things. If this is an enlightened guru, then I think people are delusional.
I don't think its our business jugde who is a con man or not, pick the good and leave the rest, what a con man motivation and intention is there karma, its not your right to judge, just work on yourself and keep moving forward. We should put judgement on ourselves first, what is my reason for talking ill of a dead man? Does my ego enjoy finding flaws in others to avoid my own flaws? Let's ask ourselves those questions.

Bhaiṣajya-guru-vaiḍūrya-prabhā-rāja This is His full name in Sanskrit, the language of the sutras. Medicine Buddha, before He attained to Highest Enlightenment, made twelve vows for the benefit of all sentient beings. These twelve vows are connected to the twelve syllables of His Full name: (Bhai) “The first great vow: 'I vow that in a future life, when I attain anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi, my body will shine with dazzling light that will illumine measureless, countless, boundless worlds. My body will be adorned with the thirty-two heroic features and the eighty subsidiary characteristics, and I will enable all beings to become as I am.'” (Ṣa) “The second great vow: 'I vow that in a future life when I attain Bodhi, my body will be as bright and clear as vaiḍūrya, flawlessly pure, vastly radiant, majestic with merit and virtue, abiding at ease, adorned with blazing nets brighter than the sun and the moon. Beings dwelling in darkness will be illuminated and will succeed in all their endeavors.'” (Jya) "The third great vow: 'I vow that in a future life when I attain Bodhi, I will, by means of limitless, unbounded wisdom and skill-in-means, enable all sentient beings to obtain an inexhaustible supply of material necessities so they are without the slightest want.'" (Vai) "The sixth great vow: 'I vow that in a future life when I attain Bodhi, if there are sentient beings whose bodies are inferior and whose faculties are imperfect, who are ugly, dull, blind, deaf, mute, deformed, paralyzed, hunchbacked, or afflicted with skin disease, insanity, or various other sicknesses and sufferings, upon hearing my name they shall all become endowed with upright features, keen intelligence, and perfect faculties, and they shall be free of sickness and suffering.'" (Ḍū) "The seventh great vow: 'I vow that in a future life when I attain Bodhi, I shall cause sentient beings who are oppressed by many illnesses and who are without aid, without a place to turn, without a doctor, without medicine, without relatives, and without a family, who are poverty-stricken and filled with suffering to be cured of their sicknesses upon having my name pass by their ear, so they are peaceful and happy in body and mind. They will have a family and relatives, and acquire an abundance of property and wealth, and even realize unsurpassed Bodhi.'" (Rya) "The eighth great vow: 'I vow that in a future life when I attain Bodhi, if there are women who give rise to a deep loathing for their female body and wish to renounce it because they are oppressed and disturbed by the myriad sufferings of being female, upon hearing my name, they will be able to turn from women into men who are replete with male features and ultimately realize unsurpassed Bodhi.'" (Pra) "The ninth great vow: 'I vow that in a future life when I attain Bodhi, I shall liberate sentient beings from the nets of demons and the bonds of heretical paths. If they have fallen into the dense forests of evil views, I shall lead them to have proper views and to gradually cultivate the practices of Bodhisattvas so they will quickly realize unsurpassed, proper and equal Bodhi.'" To assert this is a Buddhist and religious illusion and indoctrination. Who affirms that it is necessary to turn away from the senses and the objects of the senses. There is no truth but perspectives. In many Tantric traditions, for example, the body is celebrated as a temple and a vehicle of light.
Yeah I just wrote something quite similar, this is not the attitude in the Christian, Platonic, or Courtly Love tradition in Europe where Eros/Romantic Love spurs us on to greater and greater deeds in order for us to reach the fulfillment out of purposes. Assuming one is called to Marriage, that sort of Union. That’s my feeling anyway!
