Cool stuff dude! I think a video of doing something like this with the LOG video off the new iPhones would be cool af
Thank you man!
Great video
Thank you!
can it used lut to zve10m2?
What?
Hello please you Can make a tutorial with the plugin film look creator ? Please
I can look into it 👍🏼
@@-austinsmith thanks bro
@jhonesreece4946 no problem
Thanks for this, it helped me understand a little more about working in a colour-space and what this means, I have a long way to go before I fully appreciate what this fully means to me as a film maker. It really helps when you make this complex subject a little more understandable, thank you 🙏 subscribed.
No problem! I’m glad it helped! Thank you!
I’d cut that music out.
Noted! Thanks
Brill tutorial. Thanks
No problem! Thank you!
Awesome man.
Thank you!
Ai voice
Idk if I should take that as a compliment or not 😂
Thank you so much brother. I will practice and practice with your tips. Can't Thank you enough, you are the man. Looking forward to more videos frequently from you. ❤
no problem! I'm glad It was helpful!
Hi, very informative but I have a few questions. Is this workflow better than working in DWG? And can this also work just as well with other camera log sources? Thanks
Also, in one of your previous Dehancer videos you mentioned turning off the “use S-curve for contrast.” Would you still do this with this workflow?
Thank you! It’s a case by case thing, if you find that you’re working against the grade using the Dehancer camera profile workflow, I would recommend switching to a DWG workflow. DWG workflow offers a more balanced, less contrast starting point. Ideal for really tough lighting situations. And yes, I use this workflow and the DWG workflow for my black magic camera pocket 6K G2 and it works perfectly.
I’m actually not sure if it’s necessary with this set up. I now just leave it on the default on setting how it is.
what you are thinks about the dehancer lite version...because the pro version is a little bit to expensive for me :(
While it doesn’t have everything the pro version has, It can be a great tool for getting the film look. You’ll be missing the contrast curve you get from the film print section of dehancer Pro, so you would need to set up another node in your chain for adding a good bit of contrast.
Thanks..did you know ..have the lite Version any Print Option now ..i think Back in the day was No Print Option 🤔😬
Ohhh, I didn’t know that, thank you for the info
9:00 Hey Austin, btw... let's say if i wanted to add a built in lut like film looks kodak 2383 d55, is it the right way to set "cineon film log" on "output gamma" on the second node? And after that node add a built in lut on a new node?
Yes, it’s been a while since I’ve used that workflow. Another way I’ve seen it done with the built in film looks is by de-logging in a non color managed workflow. Applying the Film LUT directly to log footage.
@@-austinsmith Thanks for the quick answer and the hint! I think im going with the cineon film log on output gamma for now as it's easier for me :) What i want to learn next is to vonvert color space from blackmagic to arri. Do you have a tutorial for this or can you recommend any tutorial out there? Any experiences? Thanks man!
@fpsoundpacks no problem! I don’t have a video on that and not really a video that I have in mind to recommend. To me honestly it comes off as more of a gimmick for clicks when people put that in their titles. “Turn your camera into an Arri!” . Any professional colorist I see on YT isn’t converting into an arri log space from an anything other than an arri camera.
@@-austinsmith To be honest, that was my first thought too. But maybe every now and then there is a lucky coincidence when it comes to the colors and skin tones. But it might also make the image worse. How do you deal with the noise on the BMPCC 6K G2? I have the same model and am a bit confused about the red part of the noise or am I doing something wrong?
@fpsoundpacks for skin tones, I use the vector scope with the skin tone line enabled so then I can use the temp and tint raw tab settings to scoot the image onto that line if possible. As far as the red noise goes, you get the cleanest results shooting properly exposed at the appropriate ISO. ISO 400 is good for most situations, however I’ve used 800 for brighter lit outdoors with not a lot of shadows and ISO 100 for when I want more detail in the shadows. ISO is essentially relocating your dynamic range and you’ll start to experience noise when you’re getting outside those parameters. For instance if you’re exposing for a darker lit image and you’re at 100, if you start trying to lift it, at a point you’re gonna start introducing noise bc 100 has limited dynamic range over middle gray.
What battery do you use? I need a really good battery for my m50.
Right now I use the smallrig VB155
@-austinsmith is that a v mount battery? Also I'm getting deep into filmmaking so I need a few pro long lasting batteries
@DeanCoffey yes! It’s super reliable and has so much battery life!
@@-austinsmith awesome. I'll check it out. Do you have a video on how v mount batteries work?
@@DeanCoffey there’s a little bit of information here on rigging it up, you’ll probably get like a dummy battery that goes to like D-tap or USB-A ruclips.net/video/VuUJwJIyZFk/видео.htmlsi=HAq4LRWGfg8nprWP
I watched at least 5 hours of tutorials last week from channels with well over a million followers and all I got out of it was being even more confused. But your video really got to the point. Thank you for that my frriend!!! I also like the way your channel is presented. Not arrogant and not too many cuts or pop-ups every few seconds telling me to subscribe to you. If a channel is good and helpful, then the subscription will come automatically, I think. Yours is good, keep it that way.
Oh no! Sorry about that! I’m glad my video helped! No problem!
@@-austinsmith Thanks man, the pain is over...for now 😅
your are an example of attention in detail person. thank your for sharing
Thank you! No problem!
Hello, the timeline color space needs to be exactly DaVinci Wide Gamut, this is the color space that Dehancer expects?
Nope, but it works 👍🏼 I have other videos detailing different processes for how to apply Dehancer to footage on my channel.
@@-austinsmith thanks for the reply, i have read a bit the manual for Dehancer, i have seen that as a source you can even select the camera model and their log and gama and work from there. You can leave me a link for one of your vids where i csn dee in detail hot to apply Dehancer to different type of footages. if its no trouble of course.
This is so helpful thank you
I’m glad! No problem!
Amazing, Im new @ this and it´s really educating! Thanks!
Thank you! No problem!
Just purchased with your discount code. Thanks for the walk through of your process!
Thank you! No problem!
Really helpful
Awesome!
I recorded some braw files with a bmcc 6k ff, when I import them into the davinci resolve studio I move the raw parameters and it does not affect the image, the image does not change when I modify the iso or any parameter, why does that happen? thanks for your help
That must be frustrating, I’d have to research that one! I’ve never had that happen to mine.
Just the video I needed. I work in fcpx and have been trying to decide to go with dehanser or learn resolve.
I’m glad it helped!
I’m in the same boat. What did you end up choosing?
Thanks for actually explaining why it is done that way instead of what many youtubers do and that is to show you how to do something but don't tell you why.
No problem! I’m glad I could help!
Your wife is beautiful! I love to watch her in your videos. 😊
Yes! She’s amazingly beautiful!
Thanks for making this video. Tip for next time. Remove music completely or lower the volume. Its distracting for me. Im not a big fan of background music in these type of videos.
No problem! Noted.
Great explanation. But the music is just too loud. Please tone it down so that it's just something that we can hear in the background.
Thanks! Noted!
Thanks, but why the annoying background music? Do you think it makes your video more exciting? Just asking
No problem! Thanks for the feedback!
Dehancer is still better
It’s an awesome plug-in for sure! 👍🏼
FLC doesn't produce a "film" look. It produces a look. I've worked professionally with retired senior colour scientists from Kodak and the nature of the film look is a whole lot more complex than any of these systems are able to emulate. The whole genre of these tools is a fallacy ; their designers have no clue what the numerous steps are in the spectral domain, to end up with a projected print. Kodak chemists had Fortran scripts to predict the colorimetric behaviour of their chemical choices ; they'd du multiple batches, print trials and invite cinematographers to help them pick the most promising formulations. I've seen these math models and they are nothing like the ridiculous gadgets offered on Resolve. My advice : Use the new Color Slice tool and eyeball a look that satisfies you ; the design of the Color Slice tool will get you quickly in the ballpark if you have eyes to see.
Really great point! 👍🏼
exactly! the color slice tool is the one that gets your colors into the ballmark. the film look creator is maybe 5% the look.
Great point!
The goal is not to make a 100% equal emulation, no one here is Steve Yedlin, but the tools are great to create good looks, they just need to resemble what film looks and take off some of the digital look
@VicerFx right!
I’m sure dehancer is technically better in some ways… but you left the FLC node on a pretty bad looking grade, dialed in a completely different and better look on the dehancer node, and then concluded that dehancer looks better when you A/B’d the two. You could have at least tried to match the looks, ha.
That’s a great point 👍🏼
Can I ask you why after you chose Rec709-A for your Output color space in the Project settings, you use Gamma2.4 in your final CST "to Rec.709" and not Rec.709-A again? Thank you
Yes! That’s something I’m not 100% sure on actually, I’ve tried both and have just stuck with this process as it seems to work and until I learn which one is more “correct” I’ll change it. I could be totally wrong lol. Perhaps I should be choosing rec709-a again for CST output, it makes sense for sure.
@@-austinsmith lol, thank you anyway Austin!!
No problem!
upload 480p on youtube? Really?
Check your settings. It's 4K.
Great video man!!
Thank you!
