Can I ask which rental company was okay with you? Going to Java? Looking to do the same thing myself. Cheers!
Of course! We used Two Brothers and couldn't recommend them enough. We let them know we were wanting to go to Java and they were the only company we could find that allowed this! Service was great, bike was basically new
The reason that these once idyllic locations are overcrowded is because they are being publicised on all of the social media platforms . As an older Australian who spent many years surfing the breaks on the north coast of NSW and SE Qld I much preferred the days when the best east coast locations were mostly only known to Aussies. No point criticising the crowds and the tourists when you are part of the problem yourselves especially when you publish videos highlighting the quieter locations.. Hidden gems - probably not for much longer.
Right there with you matey ...... l lived there for 7 years and left as the first too tall buildings began to appear ...... too beautiful and close to stay secret
I stayed at Mowie's on the Beach for a week. Just down at the southern tip of Gili Air. It was mid level priced and was excellent.
The chayote at the end 😂😂😂😂
Lmaooo crazyy
If u can do that then dont waste ur time and make fun of it
Thank you for your comment, like and subscribe for more
Thats true though 😂
Morialta Falls
Adelaide is the best city in the world to live but a horrible place to visit. Sorry you can go some where else LOL😂
I disagree, it's a great place to visit!
Ssssshhhh don’t tell anyone - let’s just keep it between ourselves OK 😉
@thommo6331 ahhh yes 😉😉🧏♂️🧏♂️
you ended the video right out the front of my grandparents house!
Amazing!!!
Byron Bay is way over priced now,Yuppie ville. It costs a fortune to get there in petrol now and accomadation has trippled in price in 7 years
Yeah it's ridiculous!
i heard it was great back in the 70s and 80s
Probably was but unfortunately we missed the boat on that one by a few years 😂
As was the rest of the country
@sinbadasia are you saying your not a fan of Australia now?
@@Rkbackpacking definitely not a fan. Australia is a sinking ship. It use to be the Lucky country. I'm 43 I've seen big changes and I'm sure older Australians have also.
@lukeArmstrong524 wow that's interesting, along our travels of just the east coast we have found some absolute gems, of course the main tourist spots are just that but there are definitely some beautiful parts
yes, I have always thought it was highly overrated, I have been there a couple of times and I cant see what the attraction is.
I understand what people used to see but we couldn't see it when we were there. It's a nice place but so is at least 80% of the east coast!
@@doc2590 Cause it's NSW's Gold Coast . Always try to beat QUEENSLAND.
@christophermurphy5454 so would you say queensland is better than NSW?
Just marketing mate. The whole east coast has towns just the same and better.
Yep we found loads that could easily be compared to there, the whole coast of Australia is a beautiful place!
Back in the 70's we could go to the Top pub and sleep in our cars and be surfing at dawn . And we had QLD number plates. All gone .
That sounds like the dream to be fair 😔
you were lucky mate. Us younger ones are stuck in a woke prison world
There is light at the end of the tunnel 😅 do you live there?
@Rkbackpacking Sorry no not an influencer or how ya spell it .Media who're maybe .
Byron is not overrated, just over crowded, and over priced ...
The crowds weren't really there when we were there but yes definitely over priced!
Bayron is for the high class hippies who can afford eat and drink well and not for scam bogans like you pissing around...crap review and not reflective of the true facts...
I live in Byron, local resident. Byron is beautiful, you can’t deny that. What has changed and happened in the past decade or more is instagram and social media bringing way more tourists than the town can handle, so sorry, you guys are partially to blame for this. This in turn brings developers, with massive amounts of people, comes business opportunities and exploitation, which developers will jump on. I’d be happy for Byron to return to normal; less people, less foot traffic; lowers rents, less shops and gentrification to disappear completely.
Undoubtedly byron is a beautiful place, we dont deny that! What your saying may have been true in the past but when we were there it, at peak season, it was no where near as busy as we would have imagined, maybe we were just lucky. Are you saying your disagreeing with the gentleman we spoke to?
@@Rkbackpacking So many comparisons to previous times. The generation before this bloke would be saying very different things to what he is saying. Like comparing apples to oranges. We have an economic crisis going on worldwide right now, thus bringing the numbers down, as people can’t afford it and Byron is expensive these days, as opposed to say 10 years ago, when it was much cheaper but Byron is still heaving with people these days. Used to much quieter and way more down to earth. True hippies and artists. Byron is still a Mecca for artists and musicians, produce a lot of talent but again, they all live in the hinterland and that these days, Byron is for the rich, developers (unfortunately) and for tourists. As for what this bloke says, not entirely true. There are still cheap van backpackers around; they just got out of Byron because of council restrictions put on them. U go out into the hinterland, other suburbs u will find the vans, cooking breakfast in the carpark.. as for the ones eating at Bayleaf.. they are just long stay tourists really. They were around in his day just in smaller numbers and in a less gentrified area, which Byron has become. They are just wealthy tourists, wannabe hippies that do yoga but won’t live out of a van or eat noodles! 😂
@@Rkbackpacking also, locals don’t live in Byron, they live in the hinterland.. surrounding suburbs.. as I said, town is for the imported rich, the developers and tourists, which have taken over a once amazing place. Still is to some degree but has definitely been exploited.
Agree with what he said about Byron dying to a certain degree, it has. The nightlife has dimmed, everything is expensive.. I guess I wouldn’t say it has died but chartered a new course, directed by the developers and the rich. Even tho all these changes have happened, I still love it here.. no other place like it, just need to get out of Byron town to find it.
Good luck
There dozens of much better little beach towns in NSW compared to the over priced over hyped Byron Bay
There really is, the whole thing was a bit eye opening and not what we expected at all.
Bondi beach is awful icl.
Happy birthday. Now get out of the city. 😂
Thank you - we've left 😅
Poms in Aussie. just like every third person in Sydney.
Thanks for your comment 🙂
Same goes for aussies in London
That's not how you say coogee 😂
Oh 😂 silly brits ey, what's the correct pronounceation
It’s pretty boring if you lack any initiative
What a beautiful place ❤ 😮
Its not really Sydney is a shit hole, qld and wa is spectacular best beaches
We loved Sydney!
It definitely depends what you're after, having explored the east coast we found different parts great for different reasons. Beaches weren't the reason we came to Sydney :)
Canberra is one of the best places I've ever been too. I like the fact Canberra is different and it's different in the sense it's a major city that's inland and contains so much bush characteristics. Too much of Australia is along the coastlines and obsessed with the coast so Canberra provides something different altogether. Canberra has so many good walking tracks especially along Lake Burley Griffin and very good lookouts especially Mt Ainslie and the rooftop of Parliament House. I don't notice or see the politicians or public service side of Canberra when I visit. I love coming to Canberra because it's clean, easy to get around, laidback and still a major city. I love going to Bus Depot Markets my favourite market stall is there KC's Bakery I get a few weeks worth of bread. People can think Canberra is boring because people want surf, sand and alcohol whereas I like the inland features, the bush feel about it, the walking tracks, the history, the art culture and there's tourist things to do if it's too hot or wet which beaches are useless when wet.
Happy birthday 🎂
They made them 50c to try get people paying, because the majority have no gates and people just travel for free. With such a minor risk of being caught 😅
That makes so much sense, unfortunately in England that's the same where people don't pay
whats the word whats the word... Schadenfreude ... >:c) WOOOO! STRAYA!
😂 great word
Sorry to see you having such a run of bad luck. Why do you keep going on about the outback? You're nowhere near the outback. Australia is more than the outback, in the same way the UK is more than Pennines. It's daft.
Google says different :)
@Rkbackpacking And some of us live here. Use a different search engine once in a while maybe. And maybe don't just read a search engines cookie cutter reply. Engage your brain. You're nowhere near the outback as any Australian familiar with that area will happily inform you.
@bibleboy6611 "happily inform you" but also be incredibly rude and dismissive at the same time. Thanks for taking the time to comment but maybe next time try and go about it in a nicer way...have a good day :)
@@Rkbackpacking I'm not the only person to point this out to you. And, you're not the first person to make this mistake, and you're unlikely to be the last. And the great thing is, you get to respond with your intellect, or your emotions. Hooray!
worst beach in nsw compared to Wallaby point and saltwater 5in down the track
But great to access straight from the campsite :)
City botanical gardens are 1000% better and is located in in the city. The most expensive city? Where you get that from? All of Australia is expensive
Ahhh ok we didn't know about that one. Will check it out next time. And yes maybe, although its a matter of perspective compared to some countries, eg Switzerland etc. But obviously within Australia some cities will be more than others. Thanks for your comment though
How did your onward dummy ticket😊s work out?
Absolutely fine 🙂 worth every penny
Diddums 🤣
Thanks for the comment
Hate to break this to you guys, but that isn't the outback - not even close.
"Roma Queensland is an Queensland Outback town in the Maranoa Region of Queensland Australia and is about 480km or a 5-and-a-half-hour drive from Brisbane." Google would disagree my friend
@@Rkbackpacking I know where Roma is, and it is not in the outback, it is really just a regional town. I don't care what 'Google' says. But hey. what would I know? I have only spend decades travelling across the centre of the country.
@@MichaelSwinbourneYep. It's nowhere near the outback. Not even close. Why do people say stuff like that?
@@RkbackpackingIn this case, Google is having a laugh. According to some web pages, including Wikipedia, the outback covers almost all of Australia. This just ain't so. Although Wikipedia draws the boundaries badly, the definition isn't too bad : 'The Outback is a remote, vast, sparsely populated area of Australia. The Outback is more remote than the bush.' Large portions of Australia are the 'bush', and where you were in Queensland might be classified as the bush, but absolutely not the outback, although I wouldn't describe it as either. Maybe 'rural' Queensland. It's not the outback, nowhere near it.
tiny spiders
why would u want to drive to Qld at summer time wet season was always gonna happen if u dont check water oil every day
It was the head gasket, would have happened regardless but thanks for the comment 🤟
@@Rkbackpacking head gaskets only happen due to lack of fluid or a broken pipe when traveling in high temps an using air conditioners cars often expell water as a re;eif when shut down after long drives thus over 3 days low water in the cooling system reason needs to check coolant levels daily when traveling not as applicable in teh cooler UK car hire company should have explained that too u as well
farg9n Indian everywhere

Yeah we have been corrected a few times 😅 thabks
as an Ozzie, don't back down, call the consumer ombudsmen (not sure actual name of position)
Fair trading is who you should contact regarding what's happened. They'll help you.
Thank you both!
@@Rkbackpacking on a brighter note, it's not an Aussie adventure if the car doesn't die in the middle of nowhere, I've had to hold wires together on the ignition, while my girlfriend at time was driving, down a hill on a narrow road at night, would get hot and we'd lose lights, truck boring down on us, we'd forgotten to fix the dodgy wiring I'd done pulled over, in a torrential rain, a day or 2 earlier lol
@@Rkbackpacking she'll be right just take our advice and you'll be sorted in no time. 👍😉
LOL. There's plenty of desert if you are over rain. Just drive west and keep going.
We started with the desert 🤣🤣
I was there for Christmas
An amazing place to camp!!
In Australia it’s commonly called Maccas. Enjoy your travels
Thanks, in England it's commonly known as maccy ds 😀
It’s pronounced Bell-in-jen
Amazing thanks 😅
Had some real bad luck but the question remains why go to Roma to get to Cairns. If you had done your research you would have found the Outback is just like you found. You would have been far better travelling up the coast. As you said 27 hours driving. Crazy I know. Well you found out how the start of that crazy can be. Australia is a huge country and you need to plan well in advance especially in the holiday period when school’s out and everyone’s on holidays. Good luck on the rest of the trip
There was method to the madness, albeit not much 😅 as we had a limited number of days and had to return the vehicle to the start we wanted the shortest route, however we didn't realise the shortest route was the shortest by 3 hours and goes through emptiness 😂 little lesson for us there!
@ Fair enough. I suppose next time you have to have realistic expectations. Generally if you’re going drive from Brisbane to Cairns, you need at least a week to make it worthwhile. Otherwise you may as well plan ahead. Fly and hire a van up in Cairns. It’s not a great time to be there anyway. It’s oppressively hot and humid 24/7. 25c min to 35C max with high humidity. You need air con 24/7. Far better to work drives from Sydney to Brisbane at this time of year or further south. Take your time if you only have limited periods. 7 days say. Otherwise you spend most time driving, not stopping to enjoy places etc Better to be in Australia through autumn. Start in the south and work your way north from Melbourne. You’ll get warm weather most of the way and if you reached Cairns by May, the days are really pleasant but still humid.
@LesGray-i9p yeah we found out about the heat, ended up buying freezer packs to sleep with as a kind of cold water bottle 😅 but we sped up to cairns and slowly drove back down enjoying the best of the east coast. It all worked out in the end
I want to feel sorry for you but i cant byron is the grungiest place to stop in aus, also one of the most unsafe for violence and drug crimes. id suggest staying in Evans head about 1.5hrs south of byron soo much safer, happier people comparable surf etc much better for families it just lacks night life except the pub
We wanted to stay to see for ourselves and to be honest we agree, glad we didn't have longer. We have a full in depth video coming out soon about expectations vs Reality of it
Byron is a beautiful place to visit, but I avoid actually staying there for many of the same reasons as you. Happy travels
Didn't know we had a nude parliament house.
Not entirely sure we understand but thanks for the comment 😅
You can go to the Mount Lofty summit without paying for parking. Just have to park down the road and walk a few hundred metres.
Glad to see you included Adelaide in your Australian trip. Many dont. You might have enjoyed Monarto Zoo also. Whilst you were near Brighton beach if you had gone up to the top of Seaview Downs you would have a great view of Adelaide from the also for free. And the car races are still held each year at Victoria Park in the City called the VAILO Adelaide 500 held now held in November.
It has been one of our favourite places to see unfortunately we only had a limited amount of time and also were going off what info we could find on Google or reddit etc. We will have to do monarto zoo when we come back as its has had the most recommendations, also love a good view point, thank you!
