I hope you let your grandson sew! U can help Jim made his first pot holder & use it to take a pot pie out of the oven! Or maybe a pizza! So fun!

Thank you so much!
I'm a very experienced quilter who loves your videos. Your videos bring back many memories of my own first attempts
Thank you very much
Barry to do with weight I cut out sugar and foods that turn into sugar in your body. I have lost over 6 kilograms so far exercising is hard having a stick and bad knees but it’s moving flexing your legs etc. with sewing I can’t folia pattern it doesn’t compute in my head but I can see a picture and figure it out. I unpick when something goes wrong so it's a little tweak that will fix it. I make handbags and English paper piece sewing by machine my ocd kicks in too much. I have found patchworkers can get very set in how to must follow etc. I like throwing colours and making everything unique and it works. So far so good the unexpected makes everything better and free.
Really got into it in 2020. It was a great way to have a community even when isolated!
Machinist and aircraft mechanic here. Started having seizures, lost my job and driving license. Have three great sisters that could see depression setting in. They talked me into quilting and l love it. BTW you have a new subscriber.
That is awesome - I really think quilting is anti depression medicine. Thank you
Out of your head and into your hands is something that has helped me tremendously during difficult times in my life.
I envy your beautiful sewing machine that never in a thousand years I could afford…..you do beautiful work
Well me and the bank are co- owners lol.
Most important information I’ve ever been given for sewing anything, NEVER watch the needle, ALWAYS pick a spot on your foot/machine etc to keep your eyes on with your fabric to help sew in a straight line. The needle isn’t moving all over the place, it’s doing its job. The fabric however can and will move all over the place. I’ve been able to sew fairly straight for the past 6 months after 2 ish years of sewing off and on while watching the needle 🤦♀️ It’s a game changer for sure! Simple information shared that made the biggest impact and improvement
That's a great tip!
Barry I really liked what you said at the end of your Video, Focus on Your Passion. ♥️ I have to tell you I love quilting, it really helps me get my mind off of life’s tragedies & maybe I shouldn’t do that & deal with things but for now I’m just gonna sew. Loved watching you! Keep them coming!
I think we all need our outlets!
I have the same machine that you have. Just bought the 1/4 inch foot with guide and love it. Also the left compensating foot is excellent for sewing binding to the quilt. I bought another foot from Juki Junkies to stitch the folded over binding to the quilt. I think it is a 1/4 inch right compensating foot.
I really want the left compensating foot so that I can try it on the binding! I think that and the stitch in the ditch foot maybe a game changer for me?
I just found your channel. I also watch the Quilting Marine. I've been sewing and quilting a long time. It's good to see others discover the joy of quilting. I have a question for you... I've noticed that many quilters have a math and or engineering background. What engineering skills would you say are utilized in quilting. Other than the obvious like measuring and cutting accuracy. The Sugaridoo channel owner was a former engineer.
I subscribe to the quilting marine as well. Not sure how to answer your question. I never really thought about it but there is math involved lol. Let me ponder that some more.
Yes, you’ve inspired me to have a go
Awesome - keep me posted
Way to find a hidden talent. Enjoy the journey
Thank you
Problem with most retirees are....They got No Hobbies !!!
Absolutely perfect. Glad you're enjoying learning new lessons. 😊
Thank you
Have you tried sewing fleece on it …? That’s my main fabric I use … thanks
Not yet but I have done flannel
I think you are doing great with the blocks! My mom was my mentor and I only took one class. When she died in 2017, I stopped quilting and only took it up recently after watching youtube videos while recovering from back surgery. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you, and I’m sorry to hear about your mom. It sounds like you had a great mentor and I’m glad you’ve picked it back up.
Retirement is a time to enjoy your life. I have taken classes through the years & planned to be able to quilt when I retired, which I did this last May. Between raising a puppy, which I promised myself when I retired, my passion is quilting also. I plan to take my time making quilts that I love. Have a huge stash to make . Have fun Barry!
Love watching you .....your doing a great job...... I have been sewing for about 6 years if definitely helps with keeping your mind active .....I do a lot of hand sewing...Like EPP and hand quilting .....and yes I use pins and sometimes the clips xxxxxx
Thank you very much
Hi you guys out there.. I retire in a year i love sewing quilting etc so I will have more time. Also is there money in quilting as a side job
Try to relax.
never mind about perfect points its about the journey, love the block, retired also I love to craft but I also love to make quilts & pillows for the grandkids, thank for sharing
After 30 years of quilting, I have started to starch my fabric. Really helps accuracy. Quilt on ❤
That's a great tip. I'm going to try that.
Barry just take your time and relax. You will be a pro at this in no time.
Sewing has always been a passion of mine. I decided to test out my skills even further and start quilting rather than making garments. Not perfect at it, but, being a somewhat "perfectionist", some designs can be a real test. What I found is you do what you like and happy with, and not worry about anyone else. I found Donna Jordan, from Jordan Fabrics one of my favorites to learn from. Every step is explained very clearly and very well. Happy quilting!
I couldn’t agree more about doing what you like and being happy with it.
I am so happy you have found quilting for me it’s like learning a new language I enjoy doing red work and have made a few quilts now at first my children would take no notice but now as they have got older they love to have one it is so rewarding and relaxing I find glad I found your channel from the uk
Thank you very much!
Retirement encourages creative hobbies. Go for it!
Preparing to retire in the next 12 months. Stay curious. Learn something new. Passion will follow.
Find your passion BEFORE you retire! My husband and I started our hobbies 15 years before retiring. Easier to buy the equipment you want with steady paycheck!😂 I bought a long arm 3 years before retiring and loving every minute of my retirement! Good luck on your journey!
Me too.
You have such a wonderful voice……no idea how your channel popped up but really enjoyed it! Thanks from the UK!
I hope you noticed your block is laid out wrong.
Show us the back
Your fantastic Barry. Very inspiring. Gonna follow your progress.
Congratulations! I bought my Juki about 4 yrs ago. I love my Juki, it is the best machine in my opinion. My first machine was a Janome, good machine, but not the best for quilting. You will love the Juki as you progress in piecing and quilting. Best wishes for you as you explore this new hobby.
Mám JUKI HZL-DX 7.Super.

Enjoyed watching your video and hearing your story. Thank you! ❤
You may want to consider joining a guild. They offer many free educational classes and it is very inspiring when people display their works of art. My husband is about to retire in a month and his retirement plan is centered around the recliner. I wish he had an open mind about learning to quilt because it is a challenging and entertaining hobby with limitless potential of learning and creativity. Plus making stuff makes you happy! Good luck to you and keep on learning:)
Good for you Barry! Quilting is addictive and I never get tired of doing it. Maybe someone has already pointed it out to you that you have one of your half square triangles turned the wrong way😄. We have all done that and even after years of quilting I will make a simple mistake like that. It is just a learning curve! You will get great at it! Watch a lot of video!🙂
Hey Barry like the picture
Hey Barry can I get a real life view of the guitars
Hey Joe here I like them guitars
Hey you should give me them electric guitars in your back ground
Oh I know all about ageism! I suffered from age discrimination since I was 50!
I am so excited for you! It's so cute 😊
Thank you
Oh Sweetie…didn’t we tell you that Quilting is just domestic engineering? It’s for everyone!😊
Thank you - that’s a good one
I wish you some beautiful quilts! It's my passion as well. Just a suggestion...if you have a correct block already made put it in front of you then you can look at it to make sure the next one you make is the same. There are small desk size design boards u can use too. Happy sewing and great choice of a machine. Mine is a TL98E.... pretty much the same as yours. It's an older one but it still makes what I love 💕 P.S. Its a spendy hobby!!
Thank you and yes to spendy lol
We did the same thing when my husband retired. He worked as an elevator installer. His annuity was over $350.000.000 when he retired after 40 years in the business. We paid both vehicles off, the house . We put money away each month for taxes at the end of the year
Congratulations- darn those taxes. It was and still a good decision on my part
