My first year as a full time game developer has been a tough one. I definitely made some mistakes but its been a great learning experience. In this video I wanted to share an update on how things have been going. The things I did right and the things I wish I did differently. Even though I did succeed with the current game I was working on I still have a lot more fight left in me. Check out my ...

Unity Tutorial | Simple Random Item Spawner
Просмотров 4049 месяцев назад
Step by step guide on setting up a simple random loot spawner that uses a baked navmesh in Unity. This is a basic way to spawn things around your level without having to set up preset positions and keep them in the areas you would want them in. I use a version of this spawner in my current game and thought it would be helpful for anyone trying to do something similar. Theres a lot you can add t...
Making a Challenging Boss Fight
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.10 месяцев назад
Developing a new challenging boss fight for my indie game Wildkins. This was a lot of fun to make and wanted to share the process on how I design these battles. From creating the concept to building the effects and bug fixes. This is the first of many bosses I want to have in my game. At the end we do a play test where I build the perfect team to battle him. We are using the Unity game engine a...

Be more consistent with your devlogs so it acts as marketing (1 upload per week or 2 weeks) If youre consistent this can really take off

Good job man, I am doing exactly the same as what you were going through, and also coding is holding me back. Been watching so many videos and its hard to learn from yt vids, using UE5 and just to find the good videos that actually explain blueprints to make you understand it is a challenge itself. This video gives me inspiration that I can get to the end goal myself.

Somehow, it's painful for me to watch this kind of video. I imagine infinite grind with a tiny chance of breaking even money wise, almost no chance of significant earnings. I've been there. I didn't quit the full-time job, though. Good luck!

I'm an engineer and I fully believe that if you really are passionate about what you're doing and are able to grind it out while doing construction 40+ hours a week then you're going to succeed long term. Being passionate or curious about what you're working on gives you a huge advantage over other people.

Brother, I am no expert, but I am a software architect with 5 years of experience in full stack web app development. I strongly believe if you could start zero and release a product, you are already better than me and IMO you in the top 1% of the developers in the world.

Learn an object-oriented language. C++ if you want to use unreal engine . But what you are doing is clicking together something generic that anyone can do. You could have used the year to learn a language, but you prefer to take a shortcut. Play the lottery, maybe you will become a millionaire among all the other players hoping for luck...: If you think you have such good ideas, try to convince a computer scientist to implement them. But if the ideas are not so good and your experience with computer science is limited, then failure is inevitable. Do you think that with the knowledge you have, a company would hire you and pay you a high salary? You earned $400 in a year. You should value your time more. Stop taking shortcuts and build a foundation. Only when a company is willing to pay money for your work do you have a foundation to create added value. If I were you, I would try to do an internship at an IT company as a developer and develop a game in your free time as a hobby.

  • @AcidGubba
    @AcidGubba 24 дня назад

Why don’t you consider doing an apprenticeship as an IT specialist or studying computer science? I think it’s important to learn object-oriented languages. Otherwise, you’ll find yourself competing with people who may not actually know how to program or understand how IT architectures are structured. I wish you luck but I would change your approach. Well, C++ is a bit more complex but a very powerful language, but personally I prefer to work with C# and Java. You could also use Unity 6 as an engine, then you can use C#. I myself developed a few games with Unity 2.9 as a hobby 12-15 years ago when it became free. But not commercially, but I still found the engine pretty good.

This new wave of indie development is so cool to see. It reminds me of the strange yet raw times of computer games in the 90s. I'm 38 and I remember playing games like Myst and Jagged Alliance 2 as a 12 year old. They were just so...pure. And unique. More people should make games, where completely new ideas can come from.

This is my first post on RUclips in probably 15 years. First off, it's very refreshing to stumble upon someone as authentic as you on RUclips. As someone who works in a creative field, but who needs a creative outlet in my spare-time, hearing about your journey has inspired me to get serious about game dev. I've wanted to get into it for so long, not knowing where to start. Your sheer will and perseverence tells me I, too, can find the motivation and courage to start. Thank you! I have faith in you.

Be careful you're not straying into patent infringement territory with your current project. Nintendo is in the process of suing the creators of Palworld into the ground. Consult a lawyer and best of luck to you.

When it comes to VR what you should have done is do both simply because VR is not as cutting edge or as interesting as it once was when it first launched into the market and when you do VR you must simplify it because if people are too lazy to do VR then the least you could do is just give them a view into that world just a head position is all you really need pretty much but you give them both making it the default for the normal way without the VR. So you'll have the best of both worlds which is the normal gameplay which is the default and then you'll have the VR part to it which would be optional.

I would absolutely love to chat with you about features & stuff and even help make it if you're down to collaborate (I've been playing around in Unity picking it up kinda quickly ~!). I just wanna do it for the LOVE of it, truly. --Bruce
