All true and this should be an eye opener for anybody who thinks developing a game solo or with even a small team is easy. It is not. If you want to make something that is considered at least average, a big amount of work has to go in it. You even can make a good game and it could flop hard if no advertisement or at least word-of-mouth / social media posts about the game to get it to the people. Building an audience from nothing is also hard.

I hope your channel gets popular and I do hope you become successful one day :) I think what you have accomplished is already fantastic. I myself just started my coding journey not too long ago. I have never done game development, but always thought it was cool. Thanks for giving some real insight on what it is like to be a game developer in today's world. Appreciate your honesty. I do truly hope you succeed.
Thank You for the leetcode recommendation, I never heard of it before today, just finished 10 eazy ones, they are so much fun, and I can tell I have so much yet to learn. it's super fun and those little puzzle solving things is how I like to learn. ^-^
Personally I just targeted easy ones at the start, avoid tree and linked lists problems as I've never had to use that in game dev ever lol. I wouldn't recommend doing leetcodes if you haven't done any prior coding tutorials. The biggest help for me was learning how to improve my coding to be not so basic. The most value came from one's that had me write different kinds of loops with lists and dictionarys.
Very helpful video. I am myself working on my First Steam game which is an open world farming game. This video is so helpful for me with tons of valuable content. All the best for your future games mate !
Thanks for posting your journey! Having spent the last fifteen years in the industry from programming to studio owner I can definitely relate to much of your story. The best advice I ever received was that I could go out and make the greatest game in the world , but if no one knows about it your not shipping titles. Post Production is so important. Marketing or an organic approach like social networking, blogs, and so on can help , but in my experience marketing a game is the key. Most Indie or solo developers do not have this budget to market or have the staff for a social marketing campaign. Companies like Freedom Games is an alternative I have seen work for smaller developers. You have to be willing to share a small percentage with them, but they do all of the marketing, publishing, and social media site exposure for you. There are many companies out there like this that can help you launch and build the games presence. Cheers
Thank you for the awesome advice! Yea I've been putting a large effort into trying to market as much and as early as possible. Still a good bit to learn but I can feel myself getting better at it. I'll look into the companies you mentioned, could always be a good alternative. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge!
Very awesome video! Keep it up. Starting to inspire me to try my hand at game dev, its been a life long wish to develop games, now I feel stuck in factory work.
Thank you! You should definitely give it a try, just have fun with it. Even if it's just a small session when u can you'll be happy to see the ball rolling. I would wake up hating my job every day, but thinking about what I did the night before was super enjoyable and made me feel good. Even I had only done 20 min of it. Enjoy the process even when it's frustrating. You'll get that taste of some small thing working and be hooked lol. You 100% can do it my friend.
I've been struggling with getting into the code for years now, Like I wish to build whats on my mind but I can never push myself hard enough to do it. Your video is inspiring keep on doing what you love man! Huge respect to you! FOR THE HORDE ! :D
Nice recommendation from youtube! I wish you the best of luck on your journey. I started seriously learning game dev only a year ago, but I'm lucky to have a relatively non-demanding job, so I've learned a lot. If anything, I'm much better at coding than at everything else. Game design is hard.
Lol no kidding, some days I have so much trouble trying to figure out what to actually code for the game. Thank you for the support and Goodluck with your games!
Competing on Steam is a hustle for sure. Building an audiens/fanbase ready to buy your game should be pretty helpful. Wish you lots of success with your project!
I think you should join a game dev studio at this point and maybe solo game dev some ambitious project (i'm talking 5 year plan) on a side. In a studio you would get a chance to see how expert animators are doing their job, how sound designers work etc. You're at the point where you have all the tools to understand and learn from experts but figuring it out all on your own is monumental task.
I have been looking around for opportunity's to join a studio, it may come to that in the near future which is fine to me. Would love to see how the pros do it. Appreciate the advice!
This guy has some big balls to do VR as his first releases to steam. Don't care if they flopped. Respect.

Great video man! A true inspiration of how to go for it, even when faced with failure. Don't give up!
Loved it!! The story is impressive and inspiring! And I love the honesty. Keep it going!
Thank you! Awesome to hear that
I hope your channel gets popular and I do hope you become successful one day :)
I think what you have accomplished is already fantastic. I myself just started my coding journey not too long ago. I have never done game development, but always thought it was cool. Thanks for giving some real insight on what it is like to be a game developer in today's world. Appreciate your honesty. I do truly hope you succeed.
Its a very rewarding path, just have fun with it! Good luck with your coding and thank you for the support, i really appreciate it!
Thank You for the leetcode recommendation, I never heard of it before today, just finished 10 eazy ones, they are so much fun, and I can tell I have so much yet to learn. it's super fun and those little puzzle solving things is how I like to learn. ^-^
No problem! They are super helpful, good luck! My least favorite are the tree problems haha.
@@MikeyDGames101 which study plan do you recommend on leetcode?
Personally I just targeted easy ones at the start, avoid tree and linked lists problems as I've never had to use that in game dev ever lol. I wouldn't recommend doing leetcodes if you haven't done any prior coding tutorials. The biggest help for me was learning how to improve my coding to be not so basic. The most value came from one's that had me write different kinds of loops with lists and dictionarys.
Very helpful video. I am myself working on my First Steam game which is an open world farming game.
This video is so helpful for me with tons of valuable content.
All the best for your future games mate !
I'm really glad it helped you, thank you! Good luck on your first game!
sounds cool. online or single player?
@@dood_games single player, for now.

The knowledge you gained must be immense. You must game on a whole nother level now.
Cool work dude! Looks awesome! Keep it up
Right on, thank you!
Loved the video. Wishing you success in the future! Keep up the good work!
Man I wish you good luck. Solo game dev is a tough business.
Keep up the good work, continue your RUclips content and release your game in steam early access when possible
Thank you! Yea currently working on getting the game playable asap. Feedbacks invaluable.
I've been struggling with getting into the code for years now, Like I wish to build whats on my mind but I can never push myself hard enough to do it. Your video is inspiring keep on doing what you love man! Huge respect to you! FOR THE HORDE ! :D
Wish you good luck on your journey
Thank you!
You are amazing man I wish I could be on your level one day, you inspire me a lot ❤️❤️
Theres no reason you cant be! Thank you so much, its awesome to hear that. Good luck!
Keep up the good work and good luck with it.
Cool video. And you were straight honest. Subscribed. I'm on my way for a solo game dev career as well. Wish you all the best, man.
Thank you. Hope it works out for you!
Awsome content, kudos for all the hardwork and passion!
Thank you!
you will succeed eventually, I believe in you. Stay true!
Competing on Steam is a hustle for sure. Building an audiens/fanbase ready to buy your game should be pretty helpful. Wish you lots of success with your project!
Thanks for sharing your story man!
Appreciate the advice!
atta babe mikey. Keep that hard work flowing.
Congrats on pushing through the grind, literally! You never gave up, even though you worked crazy hours at a different unrelated job. 💪
Thank you! Spent a lot of time thinking about game dev at work lol, helped get me through it.
great video, first time I see your channel and I was hooked the whole 17 min.
Keep up the good work.
Thank you!
