Playing in a Super Decathlon 8KCAB
I had to take this Super D for test flight (I know - my job sucks sometimes!) and it would have been a shame not to have thrown it around a bit. I even snuck up on an unsuspecting PA-38 at one point!
I'm very rusty on aeros. Watching the video back I see all kinds of embarassing errors so don't look too closely!!

Icaro2000 Alto Full Aerotow
Просмотров 22828 дней назад
Here is a full aerotow of an Icaro2000 Alto (size M). There has been some debate about how the Alto tows (few have aerotowed one and nobody seems to know how they behave on aerotow!) so I have been very keen to try one on tow ever since I first flew one on the hill a couple of years ago. I found it behaved really well on tow! In this video I am clipped in at 83kg. There is no fin fitted. I trie...
Sport 3 full aerotow (very active air!)

I cut or speed up most of my aerotow videos but on this one I thought I would leave the full aerotow on there as a learning tool for anyone looking to take up aerotow. I have to pinch myself sometimes having such an amazing aerotow field plus getting coaching off the likes of multiple-HG-record-holder Carl Wallbank. And as you can see on this flight, tug pilot Chris Jones dropped me right into ...
Test flight of Replica (75%) SE5a

This was my first time flying this delightful little machine. In this video I'm carrying out an LAA permit renewal flight test so those of you familiar with such things will see some of the components of said flight test in there (stall, Vne dive). There was strong crosswind coming over the building so it was fairly turbulent. But no issues at all with the lovely handling on this machine. She l...
Icaro2000 Piuma Hang Glider Aerotow
Просмотров 7394 месяца назад
This was my first time aerotowing the Piuma but also my first time aerotowing at all for nearly 2 years! The Piuma behaved impeccably on tow and the whole tow was an anticlimax. Off tow I managed to climb in weak lift (1m/s plus or minus) to extend the flight to 20mins despite the overcast. I completely screwed up my landing approach by turning in what I thought was lift (legend low save story ...
Extended sled-ride at the Long Mynd

My first flight at this site. The wind had died and even the PG's were sitting on the ridge. I thought I was just me making excuses and I had gotten inside my own head so I pushed through and launched. Total flight time was just under 10mins. I normally flare single surface gliders too late so I put extra effort to flare early this time and overshot and flared too early which combined with the ...

This was my first trip out to the Long Mynd. What a great site! The weather took a while to come on and I had to be back home for the evening so I had to come down just when it got good but it was still a great day out. It was also great to see so many hang gliders out! If you are in the UK and want to take up this amazing sport check out www.hanggliding.co.uk For all your HG gear - check us ou...
First soaring since breaking my arm! Malibu2 on the dunes.

This was my first soaring flight in 20 months. I was more nervous than I thought I would be before launch. I did 2 short hops on Triggers Elan before this flight on this Malibu2 188 borrowed from Huw (thanks Huw!). Clip in was about 83kg so right on the bottom end for the 188 according to Moyes' spec. AX2000 Microlight Short Flight

I meant to put the camera on to capture some hang glider aerotowing but completely forgot! So here is a snapshot of what the AX2000 is like to fly with no glider on tow. This was a short respositioning flight from Spanhoe to Deenethorpe at GBAR III - May 2024

First demo/test flight on the new high end intermediate from Ellipse called "Next". Oh and the real pro in the sky with me (around 1:00 into the video) is a Red Kite. Sharing a thermal with such a majestic creation always makes a flight so much more special! Note - the speeds shown are GPS speeds so ground-speed not airspeed. Falcon 4 170 aerotow and 30k triangle flight with telemetry
Просмотров 5192 года назад
26k of a 30k triangle (almost completed - not quite!) on a Wills Wing Falcon 4 170. Aerotow from Malvern Aerotow Club in the UK. The day was blue so most of the lift I found was just blundered into. My first leg along the M5 motorway provided the best lift but then the lift got less impressive as the day wore on and I got low trying to find lift over Pershore. As usually happens, I found lift o...

WW Falcon 170 aerotow trolley takeoff
Hang glider aerotow release fail straight out of cart.
Просмотров 1,6 тыс.2 года назад
This was my first tow just using a Pro-Tow (chest) tow and not a 50/50. With the 50/50 you have to positively pitch nose up to get the glider to fly out of the trolley. Not so with a chest only tow! I knew this but still couldn't resist giving it a little stab just to 'help' it unstick from the trolley. The little stab without an upper bridle resisting the pitch input meant the bar went WAY fur...
Wills Wing Sport3 135 test flight (aerotow)
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.2 года назад
Come along on a 2 minute test flight of a Sport 3 135 late on an August evening at Malvern Aerotow in the UK. I was clipped in at 85kg so in the upper half of the recommended range but this gave for great handling (much more 'sporty' than the 155 is for me) and I didn't really notice a worse sink rate (vs the 155). It is said of the Sport 3 that it still has a great sink rate even over-weight a...

Icaro2000 Alto unboxing and demo/mini review
As a retired fighter pilot, I love this video with part of aerobatic performance.. If you install extra camera and use ATC cable, your channel will grow like a skyrocket .Nice job
Use the whole of 09 hahaaa. Love the aeros and the landing. Looks like you had fun. Still have the pic of us doing the mach loop in the super D
@@thomasturl5147 wouldn't want to wear the runway out eh! I had forgotten about our Mach Loop fun. That was this same plane!
I flew with Farmstrip flying two years ago - can't recommend them highly enough
Life is good😊
Maybe you should show more of the approach as well as the final flare. A good approach does increase your chances of getting the final flare spot on.
@@chrisjonesbath I don't want to bore people with long videos. HG approaches take a loooong time so I condense them down for my videos. But maybe you are right and I should make some videos dedicated to the approach and landing...
Thanks for sharing. One day, I'll learn to fly.
Something I don't normally notice in HG hill flying videos is the how the sail is moving as you give control inputs on the climb out. I'm always amazed at how weight shift control works so subtly. This video might not show the whole wing working, but it is fascinating nevertheless.
Very cool!
When taxi turning with a non-steerable tail skid, use some down elevator and a little power to lift the tail. It will turn quicker and better. Also on landing, use full up elevator on roll out.
@@Love2FlyKAP you can see me doing both in this video. The one lots of people forget is full into-wind aileron on roll-out. Even if there is only light wind. Not using ailerons on the roll-out is the biggest cause of ground loops in my opinion.
@@petermontgomery6498 No, it is the rudder. As you land....mantra: rudder, rudder, rudder, etc
@@edstoro3883 no - the thing people forget is aileron! Watch the video again, there is "rudder rudder rudder". But you will also see into-wind aileron which is the one that people forget when they are surprised when they still ground loop despite loads of rudder.
Ok, now that is FLYING !!!! 😂
Getting Back into Hang Gliding after a short hiatus of forty some years. Now turned 69 with creaky knees from age and injury, and don't really want to always have to run so fast on take-off and landings. Just want to fly again. The Alpha 235 might just be the ticket.
@@VTSifuSteve it is perfect for that! Although, that does depend a bit on how much you weigh and where you fly... The Alpha doesn't rig flat so for smaller, windy hills a Falcon would be better for you.
build details/video would be great
@@alanhodge984 this was built by the current owner many decades ago.
@@petermontgomery6498 great workmanship
Wonderful plane and video!
Thing of beauty, love the dance with the devil with the rudder pedals on landing, true tail dragger pilot :-)
Accessorising paintballing.
Amazing to see. Just making a Wingnuts Wings model SE5 in 1/32 scale at the moment!
I'm confused, the Continental O-200A is an opposed engine. Why are all 4 ignition leads on one side? Beautiful airplane. I bought a set of plans for the same replica some years back. Now I'm inspired to turn some spruce lumber into an airplane.
@@michaelschulz6204 the original SE5a used a V8 engine. Hence having 4 leads each side. On this replica, the front 2 leads each side are actual ignition leads and then the rear 2 are dummies. As is the radiator cap on the top front of the cowling.
@petermontgomery6498 well that makes sense now. Thank you for the clarifying. Currently, I have a set of planes for the SE-5a, full scale Fokker Dr-1 and a volksplane VP -1. Can't decide which one to build first. That is if I live to be 200 years old!
Bravo! Amazing looking project, and appears to fly well. Congratulations!
That looks great! I fly a 80% Fokker D VII replica. I wish we could fly together, that would be quite a show.
@@davidhines4716 I love the look of the D VII! Where are you? I'm assuming not the UK as we don't have any of them flying here I don't think...
No, I’m in the US. You can see mine fly at @HangarGang
What engine are you using? I have a 65 hp continental on mine.
@@davidhines4716 O-200 so 100hp Conti.
@petermontgomery6498 ok, sorry for being nosey, but I'm going to check this out. I just sold my challenger, and I want to build a D7 😊
Why? Oh please dear Sir why did you make only a 75%? The full-size would fly better. Did you not have room ? Great video I got dizzy so it was perfect
Superb .
Awesome! Thanks for sharing.. :)
Awesome. Was my favorite plane when I was a kid.
Mine was the Siemens Shukhert DIV. But then I was always a nerd!
Mine 2 😂
@@vipertwenty249 I had to Google that one, I thought I knew all the planes of the era, but had never heard of that one!
@@PRH123 Adequate speed, phenomenal climb rate, good manouverability, powerful but unreliable engine.
Confidence in mechanical detail😉😁…….Beautiful
Great test flight Pete, almost like I was there.
Lovely Pete ❤❤❤
Great flying! Thanks for keeping the Isles hanging!
After 600 flights I decided to switch to a round bar with 8”pneumatic wheel, instead of those white ones. Insignificant performance sacrifice for a better insurance. May not be relevant to this particular situation though..

Nice one Pete!
Monday 10th, at the Dyke, it didn't get really good until 16:45.
Welcome back!
Beautiful Landing Pete!
Nice one! Keep them coming
Great to know you're back😊
That was dreadful bad luck Pete, as you say, the impact was minimal, just unfortunate that your arm took the brunt of it. Good job there were no cameras back in my day!!
awesome pete!
Thanks for sharing and the analysis. Came here after I saw your new ridge soaring video so glad to hear you're well and back in the air
Flawless landing! Nice!😊
I only know how to do nice landings 😜 No, seriously, this machine is a bit tricky to land because it runs out of nose up elevator authority just before you want it to and then it suddenly stops flying and flops to the ground. So it is quite hard to get a smooth fully flared landing. This was the best one of the day for me, it just happened that this was the one the camera was rolling for!
Thanks. Moore impessions about Alto?
It is an amazing glider. Buy one and find out for yourself!
Thanks😊
That place is wonderful , are the conditions to fly often like that or is it only sometimes. seams so a fantastic place
This site often works.
nice Piuma , what is the brand of that HARNAS, thanks for answering . Edy
That is an older harness made by a Swiss company called Keller. The model is Tec2. They were quite popular back in the day. They have a folding aluminium back-plate. This one wasn't a great fit on me so I was really glad to move on to a proper fitting modern harness.
@@petermontgomery6498 thank you : -)
That sounds like a hearing blown at 1:53. Hope you were close to the runway.
What engine is that, and prop details?
Nice landing!
