    💓 thanks for making the video and not skipping crucial steps so many videos are made to show something and then they skip over everything and then it leaves you wondering how to get from one step to the next. It's amazing the way they put some of these cars together today and overly complicated they make things. The door lock actuator has to be changed because the sensor won't go off in the car to indicate that door is closed. So instead of just having a simple plunger like they used to do they have to integrate the sensor into the lock assembly which requires all of this junk to be taken off just to change the actuator unreal thanks for helping lead me through this maze of plastic to get the actuator out it's the only video on here that actually shows the steps

    Maybe some time could be made with a little downforce.. Maybe a wing, rear diffuser, or a front splitter. I believe it would allow sharper turns (assuming the wheel spacers you added in the build allow for a tighter turn radius). I know autocross isn't very high speed, but I still think it would help quite a bit.

    • @mikecamera818
      @mikecamera818 7 дней назад

      Absolutely. Aero is on my list of potential upgrades this winter. I think the low speed is why several cars have huge spoilers. Not a ton of air to shape, so they need to capture a lot of it. I've spent this entire season increasing my rear grip so a spoiler seems like a good start. My front grip hasn't been the limiting factor yet. Not sure about putting things under the car though since I drive this on the street and it's already low.

    Do you review the video of each runs before your next run, to see where you can make up time? What other techniques do you use to figure out where to opportunities are?

    • @mikecamera818
      @mikecamera818 9 дней назад

      Usually not, but the videos have been useful a couple times on race day. Watching them more would probably help. After a run I can tell which turns I'm not pushing the car hard enough. Either the tires aren't squirming/shuffling, or I can hug the inside of a turn too well meaning I'm not carrying enough speed for the car to start pushing/drifting outwards a little. On the other end, if I enter a turn too fast it's pretty obvious as I have to brake to avoid hitting cones. Or if I brake too hard going into a turn, the car can bog down or feel slow exiting the turn. Takes a little time to learn your limits but you need to try new things and make mistakes. Talking to and riding with a more experienced driver helped me learn more quickly.

    • @JakobusVdL
      @JakobusVdL 9 дней назад

      Thanks@@mikecamera818, it must also be a fine balance between not pushing hard enough, and pushing too hard. I guess that reviewing the videos after helps you to figure out what is working and what isn't. The 818 looks like a fun car, did you build it youself?

    • @mikecamera818
      @mikecamera818 8 дней назад

      Exactly. I make little mistakes every run and only have 5 runs to fix those mistakes and put it all together for 1 fastest lap. It's a challenge to learn the course and fix mistakes that quickly. Yeah I built it myself. My channel has a lot of videos on my build, the costs, issues, and racing development. It's been a really fun project over the last 4 years.

    I was contemplating buying one of these but at the time didnt have a place to work on it. For the same price you completed yours I ended up a 997. I really believe with the discontinuation of this kit they are missing out on the younger people who dont want a cobra or daytona. I wish they would make a single donor kit for a NC miata to make it like the local motors street fighter or something like the elfin t5 club sport or superformace s1. Something that's a more modern interpretation of a lotus 7. Especially considering how expensive even the cheapest caterham is.

    • @mikecamera818
      @mikecamera818 10 дней назад

      The 818 is a great foundation and more than an exo skeleton car, but not quite production car quality. I have a friend with a DF Goblin and I crush him at autocross now despite him being a lighter car with an equally strong supercharged cobalt engine and stickier tires. Something I've learned with this car is how important the setup is. My car performed in the bottom 20% when I started autocross. Only recently have I gotten into the top 20% with a couple upgrades and a lot of setup changes. Depends what you want to use your car for, but these hand built cars take some development even after they're finished being built.

      The front diff shares fluid with the trans. You only need to change the trans fluid in the front.

Also way more fun to build a custom car from the ground up than just buy an off the shelf car :) www.ckrscca.org/live/RawDay1.html

    Cool things about kit cars is that you know how to fix it once you're done building it. Would be nice if a K24 would fit. Or put a VW TDI and get 60 MPG?

    • @mikecamera818
      @mikecamera818 2 месяца назад

      You do know everything about the car, including every imperfection. A couple people have modified the car to fit a K Series. Definitely a more awkward layout for this kit but possible. I know the Subaru engines aren't loved by everybody but they're a compact, potent turbo engine for cheap. A great match for this car unless you're doing some serious racing. I prefer speed over mileage but a TDI would be cool!

    Hi, so my wheel bearing has a lil play and just wanna know...Do I gotta replace the whole hub or can I just replace bearing in the hub?

    • @mikecamera818
      @mikecamera818 2 месяца назад

      Much easier to replace the hub as shown in my video. That's how the replacement part is sold. If you can track down just the bearing you'll have to press the old one out and press the new one in which requires you to remove the hub anyways. It'll be more work.

      ~1 liter. You're supposed to fill until the fluid leaks out of the fill hole. It's explained at 1:40 in the video.

    Try like -3° next time. I'm in a street class, and I use -2.5°f/-1.5°r. Other friends with more serious XA/XB and ST builds have more in the neighborhood of -4° to -2.5° or so, depending on car. For autocross, though, go a lot farther up on camber than you would normally use on a road course.

    • @mikecamera818

      I agree I need more but I'm taking small steps to get there. I want to see what camber level starts to hurt my straight line acceleration / braking.

      @@mikecamera818 you'll probably start to get there around -3 to -4, based on how stuff I've driven in the past felt. why do you want to find that out, specifically?

    • @mikecamera818
      @mikecamera818 2 месяца назад

      If I jump to -4deg and create a problem or the car is difficult to drive, I wouldn't know how much to back off. I'd rather change 1deg at a time and watch how things are changing. It'll give me a chance to adjust my driving and find what I like. More info will just help me optimize my setup and I find it interesting.

      @@mikecamera818 good call. try to make the changes between runs, if possible. or maybe spend a day doing doubles if your region offers it. run your first heat of runs with it at your baseline camber setup, and then change it to what you're considering for the second heat and then write all your thoughts down as your having them between runs. it's usually better to try and make changes back to back if possible as opposed to making them potentially a couple of weeks apart.

    Using the trip computer for mileage measurements when the tuner is altering the signals is not any means accurate. Only real test is filling up and testing for 200+ miles and filling up again. Then running another test.

    • @mikecamera818
      @mikecamera818 2 месяца назад

      I've correlated the trip computer with filling/calculating. It's very similar. Accuracy is also less of a concern when both tests were done the same way, apples to apples. This was just a quick comparison and the trend holds true. Slowing down has a bigger effect than cruising tuned vs untuned.

    people will argue like crazy but all of the fastest track cars are rear weight bias a bit less than 60:40 rear biased. F1, F3, Formula V, Indy car. LMP1 cars. C8 z06, 911. It's not just mid engine, it's rear biased mid engine. 50/50 is something to aspire to in a front engine car.

    Tip. Finish the inside of the mould with a clear-coat paint, then apply a PVA mould release. The purpose behind the clear-coat is to give you a mirror finish on your object, which saves a lot of finishing work. When making a fiberglass mould, we actually apply spray release first, then apply the objects paint, then do the fiberglassing... your object comes out prepainted and ready for a quick sand and final coat.
