Hi, thank for your comments. I really appreciate it. Nice nameplate and solid instructions👍
Cheers Charlie! It's great to share wee learnings! 🙂
Nice🎉🎹🚂🙏💫✨Regards Elizabeth Lines
@@Tauraco00 Thank you, and thank you for visiting. Plenty more to come! 🙂
great video, good created sub is left
@@ModelRailroadWorldwide hey, many thanks for the sub, which has been reciprocated! You have what looks like some fantastic content that I can work through for inspiration! Cheers 🙂👍🏻
Looks great 👍
Cheers! I finished the Metcalfe Workers Cottages and Sheds for the wee corner bit, and it does add to the look I think. Church area behind the forest next I think 🙂👍🏻
@ Metcalfe has released a few beautiful new buildings this year. I have to enlarge my layout 🙂
I am considering a TT:120 layout, but not in the loft. Just a wee layout I can store away. But first I need to finish this one! 😆 And I don't think Metcalfe do TT:120 scale yet, so it's a bit of a conundrum because their kits are great and very therapeutic to make...
@ Metcale is doing N-scale though... However, TT and N-scale rolling stock is more difficult to get secondhand... A mini OO layout can also be an alternative
So, I looked into 1st radius curves (and I do have some), so it is a possibility. If you don't mind me asking... what are the dimensions of your layout? I'm looking to make a second, very small layout that is semi-portable.
Stunning layout!!!❤❤❤
Hey, thank you!! Thanks for the kind comments 🙂👍🏻. Still a long way to go though...!
Looks good. I like the use of hedges, it makes it look very British instantly. Will you paint the rails (apart from the top) in rust colour?
Hedges are everywhere in the UK! I never even thought of it that way to be honest... it was more a natural choice! So, I've never painted rails before. I'd have to do a wee bit of research 🙂
@@TheScottishModelRailwayGuy I used dark brown-blackish paint, if I remember wel "German dark brown" by Vallejo. I have painted them with a small brush, trying to avoid the top side (cleaning afterwards was necessary anyway), but that's because I don't have an airbrush. I have scratched the sleepers with a knife (as to make them slightly more irregular) and painted them in a few shades of dark brown. And then I have painted the bolts in the sleepers in rust colour. All quite time consuming, but my layout is of course not very large.
This is some great advice! Thank you for taking the time to share. I'll finish my ballasting first, and then I think a practice on an old piece if track to see how it turns out. Thank you for that! 🙂👍🏻
@ It's easier if you do it before ballasting, but it's possible to do it afterwards too
@railway187 I give it a bash! I need to spend a while tidying up my ballast first!
Just wondering, I may of missed it but is your layout an end to end or a complete circuit?
Right now it's an end to end. I plan to make a loop at one end (down by the impending industrial zone), but first I need to complete lining my loft with plasterboard! That project will hapoen when the Christmas decorations go out of the loft (soon). I think a loop is necessary with this layout so that I can properly run the locos. The other thing is that I want to add a container crane to the industrial zone too. All to come! 🙂👍🏻
Looking good
Hey, cheers! I'm thinking a model railway layout is actually a never-ending project, but that's a good thing! 🙂👍🏻
Nice little update. It's certainly made a difference to that area... Cheers James 🙂👍
@@DYLINGTONMODELRAILWAY It was on the list for a wee while! I do need to reserve some time (and a magnifying glass) to get the track ballast tidied up!
@@TheScottishModelRailwayGuy there's always something to do, I've just got some Christmas market stalls to build ready for the Christmas scene on Dylington, and no doubt Dylan will be filming a Christmas video 🙂👍
I'd really like to do a wee Coca-Cola set around the tree!
@TheScottishModelRailwayGuy sounds good. It would look great around the tree 😁👍
Agree! 🙂
Great improvements 👍👍👍
Cheers! I've been meaning to work on this wee bit for a while 🙂👍🏻
Looking great, this is some fencing on the platform ramp to the level crossing would look good. Quite an interesting layout you have. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for the ideas! I'll have a look into that. It's wee ideas like this that I go away with and mull over for a bit. I definitely agree it needs something! And thank you for coming through, and your kind comments 🙂👍🏻
The workers' cottage looks great, I do like the Metcalfe Kit's. They do make remarkably sturdy buildings, and they look great. I guess this means that the church is returning to its original planned position... Cheers, James and Dylan 🙂👍
Yes, I had a good long stare at the church in that position and decided to go with the original plan, which is on a wee hill over in the "forest", which is still a work in progress! 🙂 Cheers for stopping through! 🙂👍🏻
@@TheScottishModelRailwayGuy We're enjoying following your progress 😁👍
Aw cheers 🙂 Much appreciated folks 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Nice detail! Just wondering, how would the people get from the right end of the town get to the left end of the town? Perhaps you could cut out a slot in th bushes and insert a gate perhaps? 3:51
@@SouthWestCrossingsUK That's a good shout! I'd been thinking about that. My solution was probably lazy because I just imagined they walked "into the distance" (the back scene) and came back, but now the wee fence is up I could open it up! Food for thought, buddy! 🙂👍🏻
Hi, really liked the new position for the signal box. Reason is before the operator couldn’t see the points it was controlling in the old position as the main windows faced away from the points. The new position means the operator can see the points easily, this new part of the layout scenery is going to look great. Thanks
@@karl7994 Hey, thank you for that feedback. My thinking exactly! I was also concerned how the wee fellas were going to get there safely! I think this part of my first layout is where considerations like that are worth a step back. Again, cheers for the comments. Always great to hear how others see it! 🙂👍🏻
We're catching up and keeping up 😁👍
🙂🙂🙂 Thanks for taking the time to watch some of my content, Dylan 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
@TheScottishModelRailwayGuy I enjoy seeing what others are doing. It's a great way to get ideas and pick up useful tips 🙂👍
Agree! A little bit of inspiration from others is how I go about trying to keep creative 🙂
@TheScottishModelRailwayGuy definitely, I'm off to a planning and design clinic soon. So, hopefully, I'll pick up some more ideas there 🙂👍
Enjoy!! 🙂👍🏻
Hello, I like how you created that setup. The item I am particularly keen on finding out where you sourced them from are the little crimp ends you have on your wires. I've been after something like that for a very long time as like I am at the point of wiring in lights which come with very thing wires. Getting of something like what you've got would be very handy. Would you be able to advise? Thanks Tim.
@@LetsGo_41 Hi, thanks for the kind comments 🙂👍🏻. So... I think in the first of the lighting video series you'll see the part number on the front of the crimp tool if you pause the video. The crimp tool comes from Amazon, and it also comes with a large tray of bootlace ferrules of various sizes. I hope this helps a little. I'm at work right now, so I can check more later 🙂👍🏻
@@TheScottishModelRailwayGuy Thank you very much. I will go and check that out.
Looks good!
Cheers buddy. Another wee bit of progress being ticked off the list 🙂👌🏻
The church is looking good there. I usually put buildings in place and leave them for a day or two to see how I feel about it, and then try something else there to see, which I think looks best. Sometimes, I've been surprised, and what actually looks best and fits in with the surroundings isn't what I thought... Cheers James 😁👍
@@DYLINGTONMODELRAILWAY Agree that it takes time to think about placement. I built the Metcalfe Model Church a few months ago. I'll leave it there until I build the wee houses I think, and then make a shout from there I think. Over to the left, I made an unfinished hill for the church to sit on. Time will tell 👍🏻 Sound advice 🙂🙂
@TheScottishModelRailwayGuy we're looking forward to seeing what you decide and following the development of your layout 🙂👍
@@DYLINGTONMODELRAILWAY Cheers! 🙂👍🏻
Your short videos are great. Really informative and just the kind of help I’m looking for. Thanks
Hey, thank you! That's really great feedback! Much aporeciated 🙂 If there's anything specific, let me know and I'll give it a bash. Cheers! 🙂👍🏻
Your layout is looking good. It gets a thumbs up from my grandson. We've jumped onboard with you. My grandson(12) is building a 009-layout at the moment and is posting updates of his progress on his Dylington Model Railway channel, which also features videos of our OO layout, some which include stop-motion animation...cheers James 🙂👍
Excellent! I'll have a wee look tomorrow to follow progress! Cheers for visiting! 🙂👍🏻

@@reubendorman Thank you! It's a work in progress to be honest (probably a long work in progress). Next up is creating a wee village! Thank you for the kind comments!!🙂👍🏻
Lovely 👍
Thank you buddy. It was long overdue to start on that wee bit! Next up is a more "town" feel; busy up my layout a bit 🙂
So realistic 😮
@@SouthWestCrossingsUK well... I'm jist happy about that comment!! Wow. Thamk you! I'm genuinely trying to create a wee miniature world with a bit of character. Cheers you! 🙂
@TheScottishModelRailwayGuy no problem 👍
Superb details!
Hey... thank you! Very much appreciated 🙂👍🏻
Happy Halloween. .this is fab x
For the points situation, i tend to buy trains that are more than 1 wheel drive. For example, i got an IET class 800 set and one of the power cars (not really power cars on IETs i suppose) is all wheel drive (if that makes sense) as even if 1 wheel goes over the plastic, three wheels are still on the electrified tracks
So... this is why I got the Class 47! I wanted to see if it was my track laying abilities that were poor, or if it was an 0-4-0 problem. To be fair... my track laying abilities need work!!
@TheScottishModelRailwayGuy to be honest, I do think hornby make their points cheaply. But I did watch a video one time of a guy putting tin foil over the plastic (but also making sure its touching the metal) and it seems to solve the problem so some extent
@@SouthWestCrossingsUK I saw this one too. I'm... unsure. I get that it works, but I can imagine it'll be a bit "needy" and might come off!
@@TheScottishModelRailwayGuy yeah, I doubt it looks very good either...
@@SouthWestCrossingsUK Seems like it would be more sensible to go with electrofrog points rather than trying to bodge more conductivity into isofrogs. People just assume that you have to have point motors and advanced wiring skills to use electrofrogs, but that's not true. Just have a microswitch that is pressed by the tiebar when the point is thrown.
Nice video! Even when i just rub my fingers along rails on my layout my fingers do get quite dirty
@@SouthWestCrossingsUK Thank you mate. I honestly think it's a bigger deal than I've been giving it time for. How is the layout coming along?
@TheScottishModelRailwayGuy my layout is still sitting on the floor at the moment so I can't give it any detail for the time being, but I have hopes in putting it on a plywood board or something so that I can start decorating
@@SouthWestCrossingsUK It's the best relaxation I've ever found! Looking forward to seeing your progress when the time comes 🙂
@@TheScottishModelRailwayGuy hopefully the time will come one day 😁
Ya clean the loco wheels too? I find they can be as bad as dirty track
@@presidentxd... I'm on it tomorrow, buddy! I reckon the wee wheels have picked up lots of dirt from my scenics work. Cotton buds / Q-tips at the ready!... 🙂
Lovely little details
@@SouthWestCrossingsUK Thanks! I thought it was worth the effort 🙂👍🏻
Very nice 👌
Hey... thank you! I'm thinking a couple on that wee street might look pretty good! 🙂👍🏻
I had a boot lacer with terminal assortment come through the post today as in episode one , a wonderful tool .
@@nickmaunder Hey!... thanks for watching 🙂👍🏻. I agree that it's a great wee tool, and surprisingly cheap. I've seen really expensive ones around, but the one in Episode one is genuinely great. I hope whatever you're working on is coming together 🙂
Nice little street light 👍
I like them! I have a little bit of trepidation over getting them on the Layout though 🙈
so very true
What radius curves are you using on this layout? Just wondering because it looks nice and compact for small spaces🙂 nice video!
Hi 🙂. Thanks for asking! The majority of curves are second radius curves that came with the Hornby Coca-Cola basic train set, which is where it all started! Yes, it's a tight space in a loft for sure, so I have to be mindful. My lomg term plan is a 1st radius loop to allow it to loop back on itself. Right now, there is no loop!
great trackside scene
Gave you a mention in the longer video buddy. Great inspiration from a precious comment from you 👍🏻
Cool 👍
Very nice video 👍👌🤩
Cool and inspiring idea! I use old pieces of track as a wagon load, heavily rusted (using a mix of acrylic rust colour and brown). I haven't got pieces of old track near the siding though, not yet that is 😊
@@railway187 I think they look great dotted around... and that sounds like a great idea for wagon loads!! Something for me to consider for sure 🙂👆🏼
Nice video! It looks really cool!

It is the little things that bring out the model and the surrounding area. I still have a long way to go. "Yorkdale LNER Preservation Railway. Martin. (Thailand)
@@martinpattison1567 agree... I actually got caught out with going "too green" in a hillside area, and it took me a wee while to figure out that maybe it wasn't just that it was too green, but rather it lacked variation; the little things. I do like how that wee high street is taking shape though!
