I traced out a paper gasket for the top gear box cover!
Simple and great idea. I will most definitely use that on the scorpion and tomahawk builds. Thanks for sharing 👍
It would be really cool if you could make a video on how you mount your RC cars on the wall😀👍
You got it. Though, good thing it looks like you are one with the force.. It takes a lot of it to get these cars to hang 😂. Thanks for watching 👍
Good progress on the Terra Scorcher 🙂👍
Yes I think so. Thanks good sir 👍
Excellent stuff 👍🏼
Appreciated 👍
@NoNoRc love the attention to detail
Thanks for watching good sir 👍
Great video! Do you know why the E-1 part in the propeller joint assembly has a section cut out of the circle? Can or should this plastic part be replaced with a bearing?
Thank you! I’m not 100% certain, and pondered on that myself, but my guess is so it will allow a slight bit of movement between the gears and from the propeller shaft. It’s the only logic I can think of since it has a trust washer much like an automotive crankshaft in a car or truck. Again just speculation. I’m sure you could use a speciality bearing with the right dimensions.. Appreciate you watching 👍
@ Thank you!
No stone left unturned with those Hop Ups. Great video as always, look forward to the progression 👍🏻
Thanks mate. Always appreciate the comments. Yes, really happy with these hop Ups. Nice stuff 👍
Its aluminium For you seppos it's pronounced Al you mini yum
lol. Us yanks call it aluminum-minumminumminum . Al you mini yum is to proper 😂. Thanks for the comment and laugh 👍
@@NoNoRc hahahaha it's all in good fun mate
Yes indeed 👍
I didn't use stock shocks and did shorten the front shock as it was a little longer than stock. I will check the binding but I hadn't noticed it when I ran it. I did change the drive cups to the upgraded hardened steel ones and perhaps my shock doesn't let the front drop as much. Soon as I get a chance I will double check.
Yes, I saw your video on recommended upgrades for the super Sabre to which was very insightful. It’s how I confirmed the correct front dog bones 👍. It’s definitely worth looking at, though I’m sure shortening your front shock alleviated a lot of your issues. Thanks for watching ✌️
@NoNoRc You're doing good work and been watching a lot of the older videos too. Merry Christmas to you and yours 🌲
@@DustyFingersRC likewise my friend. Super appreciated. Happy holidays and looking forward to what we output in 2025 ✌️
Coming along nicely🙂👍
Thanks mate. Fun build. Can’t wait to get her outside. ✌️
What type of gold did you use on the wheels?
Etching primer first for adhesion then Tamiya TS-21 gold.
Satisfying to watch 👍🏻
Thanks mate. It’s currently the best handling buggy I have. Was amazed on how controllable it is. Looking forward to what the turbo optima has to offer.
@@NoNoRc love my Turbo Optima. Will look out for your video 👍🏻
Great run with Javelin.👍🙂Kyosho drivetrains are very smooth for sure 👌
Thank you good sir! Yes, they really are. Will have to swap out the front dog bones for universals as they are a bit short on full turn..
Those collars on the shock bodies are so you can adjust preload. You might say you know this but you're complaining about suspension softness while your collars are at the top of the shock bodies, which is exactly the reason why its so soft. Then if it becomes "bouncy" you increase the shock oil weight (viscosity) to slow it down. Hope this basic info gets you squared away.
Thanks for that info mate. Yes, learned a lot since this build as it was my second. I’ve since fixed those issue with more preload and a little thicker oil. Appreciate the comment 👍
@@NoNoRc Awesome. I'm buying one tonight, black friday deal from Amain Hobby. I really dont need to spend the money but I had a Kyosho Assualt (same chassis but nitro) when I was 10 back in 85-86. Being a lifelong VW guy and with this new brushless stuff, its pushing me over the edge! Looks like Im getting back into RC cars!
Awesome! You’ll love the build. Especially since the front and rear suspension design is very similar to the classic beetles of old days. Welcome back to the hobby weather your bank account likes it or not 😂 👍
Sub 200 👍
🤟 thank you good sir!
Sub 233👍
I used to have a Vanquish but sold it many years ago so greatbto see the rerelease. Glad tou enjoyed this build and nice show and fwll 👍🏻
Thanks mate! I really like the VQS. It’s fast becoming one of my favorite “newer” Tamiya’s. It looks jet like and sinister
Great colour, everyone needs a LB. Smiles all the way driving these.
Absolutely. It’s the worst handling vehicle in my arsenal and I love every minute of it 🤣 👍
The motor on my Scorpion gets ridiculously hot within just a few minutes. I dare not go over 4 mins before I need to let it cool down. How is the Holmes hobby motor?
The HH motors are fantastic. It’s all I run on my kyosho’s. For the money they are almost too good to be true. 4mm leads with gold bullets. The internal fan helps to keep them cool and circulate air. I can run a 4000 mah 2s without overheating. 4000 I found are the sweet spot between a good run time and not overheating the motor. Around 15-18 min.. Yeah, the kyosho vintage have a fairly big and heavy pinion in the kits.. I was surprised on the sheer weight when I held it.
@NoNoRc Great, I know you said it had an internal fan in the video but that gives me more to go on. I will have to pick one up. Cheers 👍🏻
Built mine exactly to manual and mine has front wheel toe out, wheels flare outward a bit. Is that normal? I tried adjusting the steering knuckle more into the front bar to get front wheels more parallel but don't know if that's what I should be doing. Coming from 80's Tamiya, I remember all my cars had toe in front wheels to help control straight driving. Beautiful build btw! Love the paint
Thanks mate! Appreciated. Paint turned out awesome. Yes, it’s normal as the manual was a bit aggressive with the tie rod & steering rod lengths. Great for turn in but as you mentioned straight line will suffer. Just lengthen the steering rod length until you get the desired toe you’re looking for. Thanks for watching and the comment 👍
Thats a special kit for me. My now deceased mom and I went out shopping for a birthday present for my younger brother and thats what we came home with.
Great choice 👍 Thanks for sharing.
It’s possible I just missed it but what motor cage did you use? I’d like silver, chrome, or aluminum for mine too
Hi, it’s a vintage aluminum one I purchased online. There’s a couple sellers you can find on eBay that sell remakes or vintage style ones. If you search for scorpion or tomahawk they will come up. Yes, I like them as well. Will add a little weight but worth it imo. Thanks for watching 👍
Just got one of these from my brother, it was his wife's, she never really used it it's in great shape.
Rad! An original or re-release? They definitely are underrated.
Nice find on the hinge pins. The original brace was made by CRP and you can actually get an alloy one currently.
CRP, yes that’s the one. Thanks for that info. The hinge pins were a little homework on getting the right lengths but definitely worth it. Thanks for the comment mate 👍
@NoNoRc I had to take screen shots for those hinge pins. My mate dug through a load of parts and used iston rods so a clip one side and a nut the other side. You shared some great tips in your video, 👍🏻
@DustyFingersRC yeah I’ve seen iston rods used with great success. Thanks, really glad I could share some info. I’ve also watched many of your videos, great content 👍
@@NoNoRc I appreciate that, I am trying to make a new video at the moment but everything keeps going wrong 😔 I subbed so keep up the good work and I will see you in the comments 👍🏻
Appreciate you. See you in the comments
So did I. One of the better looking imo. Looks amazing in black as well 👌
I wanted one of these back in the day!
I've got both kit's just one problem, I don't want to destroy the packaging so it makes it hard to decide whether to build it or not! Just one thing on your build, it looks like the drivers wearing a plastic fire suit I take and before removing the over spray film I score it around the drivers suit arms etc.. then remove that area and spray it with mat. clear works great no shiny suit! GREAT build very beautiful!! Ralphie
Thanks for the advice mate. I’m going to try that out as I hate the shinny/ plastic fire suit look lol. Thanks for the comment and watching 👍
@@NoNoRc thanks for the great paint job
@@NoNoRc You have a terrific sense of humor Ralphie
Only thing about Kyosho is they've taken some of the fun out of the build by preassembling some of the kit, especially the differential, but there is the fact that anything preassembled should be taken apart and checked for grease!!!
100% agreed. I’ve notice this on the scorpion/beetle 2wd legendary platforms. I took apart the diffs and there definitely wasn’t the amount of grease in it that I like. I’d recommend this even on RTR kits.. Thanks for sharing and watching 👍
@@NoNoRc You bet cha thank You for your reply. Also, I've got the Turbo Scorpion in the box, it's pack so beautifully I don't want to open it, but I well.
lol! that’s a constant struggle I have with all my kits. You’ll never get that back one you open them. And once they are built, you never get to experience it again. Well, unless you afford multiple of the same kit haha. Which currently I can’t. 👍
Looks great with those tires!
Yeah. I was a little on the fence with them at first but they turned out pretty good. Fits the buggy. Thanks for watching 👍
I like spectrum, a 3ch receiver is $22 on Amazon and there water proof!!!
Yes, had good success with them as well. Use them on our Arrma and a few others 👍. Thanks for watching 🤟
Looks a lovely bit of kit looking forward to watching your journey with it Not long till the carpet season starts 😊
It really is. Also a great kit to build. Wish Tamiya would have evolved the chassis more.. Definitely has a lot of potential left in the table. Thanks for watching, appreciated 👍
So you just went with grease front and rear in the diffs, no oil? Is there a reason you went this route rather than the 5000 to 30000 oil Kyosho suggested? I just started my Javelin build, my first kit build ever so am not familiar with what to use and why in the diffs.
I prefer grease, but it’s all personal preference. I’m use to the way it handles and the way it reacts when driving.. You can tune with different greases very similar to oil.. I generally do the thicker/stickier Tamiya AW grease for front diffs and losi great grease for the rear. Another plus for me is not having to deal with leaky diffs, though kyosho does supply extra diff gaskets, just less for me to worry about. I’d recommend to setup one kit with grease and another with oil and see what you prefer the best. Appreciate the comment and let me know if you have any other questions. Happy to help, thanks for watching 👍
Lovely builds those Kyosho cars. I never built one from new, but I was lucky to restore an original Turbo Optima for a friend 20 years ago. It had a chain drive, but the chains were so worn that it was no longer usable. This was in the early days of Ebay and I managed to find a new belt and diffs, and converted it to belt drive. Damn, it was so smooth...😍Good times 😊
They really are nice builds. Even with being older designs, they aged beautifully and were definitely ahead of the times when they came out. Drive as good as they feel. Thanks for the comment 👍
Nice presentation. Looking forward for you next videos about it.
Thanks my friend. Really looking forward to this one as well. Always good chatting with you. Thanks for watching, video out soon 👍
Looking forward to seeing this build.
As am I good sir. Nothing more old school than a classic chain drive. Appreciated 👍
You did a great job!
Thanks mate. Appreciated 👍
Love this chassis. The extensive use of metal instead of plastic is just great.
One of the many allures about these kyosho kits. Still very light but you can feel the quality when you hold and drive them. No chassis flex whatsoever. Appreciate the support 👍
I have never built any Kyosho models, back when these first came out (yes I am that old) I had to choose between one of these or a Team Associated RC10. I bought the RC10 (and still have it). I also had a Tamiya Rough Rider which I suspect is way heavier than your Scorpion.
If you’ve never built a Kyosho I’d say don’t do it because you will be hooked haha. I love tamiya kits but building Kyosho’s are my absolute favorite. Specifically the ones from the legendary series. Retro kits are my favorite and they don’t disappoint especially when it comes to quality, build and overall finish. I’ll be doing a few with a chain drive and it doesn’t get anymore old school than that! Check them out, but at your own risk hahaha. Tamiya’s really do have the best manuals though.
@@NoNoRc presuming I can afford it, I will look into it. For some reason, putting a new roof on my house seemed more important recently.
😂 I’d say a new roof on the house is 1000% more important though if there was a kit I really wanted you bet I’d procrastinate on the roof until the last possible moment 😅. The kyosho legendary 2wd buggies are very adorable. Same price point as the Tamiya’s.. The 4wd kits can get a little pricey but are still under 400$. Kyosho just released some more batches but they sell out fast and they are very slow on production so if able, I’d pick up some if you can. It seems rather than discontinuing them they just come out with very small batches over very long time periods which causes resellers to jack up the price’s astronomically.
@@NoNoRc I’ve noticed that they are out of stock a lot.
I have a 4x4 Arrma Senton. It is a cool truck. A lot of people consider it more durable than the similar Traxxas Slash. It should be noted that Traxxas is selling an unassembled kit for their 2wd Slash. The 2wd Slash cannot be converted to 4wd but it is otherwise a very similar vehicle. I look forward to seeing more timed runs, personally my backyard is not big enough for any size track, but there is a vacant lot down the street that I sometimes run on. Unfortunately, it is consistently over 100° outside here in Texas, so I believe I will wait for it to cool off some before I spend any time outside.
Honestly the Arrma really blew me away and I didn’t think I’d like it this much, especially for an RTR. I think they are underrated and extremely durable. Plastics are of the highest quality too. Love driving this thing but the motor does run a little hot in the grass. As always appreciate your feedback my friend. Thanks for watching 👍
I’m coming at this kind of bass-ackwards I saw the build before this preview. I built this kit a few years ago and I had the same misgivings about the G11 part that you did. In fact several RUclipsrs warned about this particular weakness in the kit. Fortunately, I was one of the few that was able to get the rcEvoLogic aluminum G11 before they stopped making them, as well as their gold anodized front and rear shock towers (including all the extra screws and nuts). These parts are difficult, if not impossible, to find nowadays and your 3D printed/carbon fiber solution is probably the best way to go. I have those pink wheels in another kit and I am not too sure about them. I’d like to have a different color, but the pink wheels are sort of limited edition and I hate to mess them up. I think your dyeing idea is great and I will have to try it on a different car. I will definitely have to find an Avante driver as I used the stock driver and it looks awful. Just as a note of interest, rcEvoLogic is still advertising gold anodized aluminum parts for the “Dragon” series of cars (Thunder Dragon, Fire Dragon, Saint Dragon etc).
😂 No worries, thanks for checking them out. Funny you mentioned about the rcEvologic parts for the fire dragon series. I just picked up a Terra scorcher & fire dragon and was just looking at the parts for them this morning.. I think I’m going to go with his full kit for the Terra scorcher. It ain’t cheap but I feel the kit deserves it. Probably do jazrider parts for the fire dragon.. I really enjoyed upgrading and modifying the upgraded plastic G11 part I found. Look forward to taking it out as I’m not worried about it anymore
@@NoNoRc You should look into a Tamiya TT02BR. The TT02B kit is sort of a standard off road kit, but the basic kit leaves a lot to be desired. But there are zillions of TT02 upgrades out there. The BR kit has most of the best upgrades and leaves out the pointless bling (like aluminum a-arms). It also has no tires and no electronics leaving you to select something you like. The main thing it leaves out (only Tamiya knows why) is the aluminum motor mount, which I consider essential. It comes with a Neo Scorcher body, but minimal stickers. Any body that works on a TT02B will work on this though. This was the last kit I built, almost a year ago.
I know exactly what you mean about feeling a little let down when you are done with a kit. I have a Tamiya Avante kit that I still have not built for that very reason (I know it is a little silly). I really wish that I had gotten an Avante driver for my VQS, yours looks great, I may have to replace the one I have (the stock one which really does look inadequate). By the way, I found that Testors aluminum paint matches the color of the silver decals and I used it to paint the black screw head holding the driver in place. I am going to have to steal your ideas about securing the body to the chassis, it really does rattle around without it. I look forward to your next build, I just found your channel so I will have to go back and look at some of your previous builds.
I appreciate you! Yeah it’s a bitter sorrow when completing these kits. And as far as you holding off on building your Avante, I’m doing the same thing with my Kyosho Tomahawk. It’s one of my favorite all time RC kits. The swap over to the Avante driver in the VQS is a fairly simple one and definitely worth while. Changes the whole look of the buggy. And yes, steal my idea for securing the body haha. Definitely something that’s needed. Thanks for watching mate!
Tamiya models are always a joy to build even if they are not the fastest on the racetrack. Your painting of the front suspension parts looks awesome. Personally I question Tamiya’s decision to mold the dampers in bright yellow, I always thought it made it look more toy-like. Maybe that is what they were going for, anyway, that is why I put the Big Bore dampers on my model. I don’t know if they work any better than the supplied ones though.
Feel the same exact way about the yellow dampers.. lol, my same exact words.. Though they do go well with some of their kits, I don’t think they go well with all and definitely take away from most. Big Bore shocks are definitely nice stuff. Thanks for watching friend 👍
That's the same driver in the Avante!
Haha yes it is. And about the only Avante part that is affordable 🤣. It so much better than the chopped off arms driver that comes with the VQS.. Worthwhile upgrade imo 👍
I managed to get the rcEvoLogic aluminum G11 and the upright parts (anodized in gold) for mine. It looks great but was pretty expensive. I also got the Tamiya Big Bore shocks, which were also very expensive.
Yeah not cheap but you definitely get what you pay for and they are super nice. Great parts to have indeed. Thanks for watching 👍
That's looking good! I suggest a high torque servo saver, because that steering system is heavy duty. the stock servo saver is kind of weak.
Appreciated mate. Agreed on the servo saver. Think it’s the only thing lacking.. Steering is super direct, definitely one of the better. Thanks for the recommendation and for watching 👍
I like how you matched the gold on the suspension. It's looking great.
Agreed. A lot of extra work but worth it. 👍
Nice build video! You're making me want to bash around my VQS.. if the weather cools off enough around me!
It’s honestly such a nice kit. Really exceeding my expectations. Definitely my favorite tamiya build to date. Yeah, been mainly running in the evenings.. getting Hot. Thanks for watching 👍
The G11 won't be brittle for years. You can drive it with no worries for a long time. I made my own carbon fiber G11 out of 2mm sheet, and metal posts. You can do it easily with patience and a rotary tool. I'll make a video about it, if you're interested.
Yes, please do make a video. That would be awesome. Would love to make more carbon fiber pieces myself and get better at it. Thanks for the comment 👍
@@NoNoRc I'll make one later today!
Rad, I’ll check it out 👍
