I am so sorry that you all had to endure this aptly named monster called beryl. Having been to Mayreau several times. The last time was when I was pregnant with my son and never knew it. A very lovely local lady who sold things on the beach told me I Was having a baby. Mayreau will always have a special place in my heart and remain there along her wonderful, resilient, welcoming people. We are currently donating both financially and with emergency priority goods for all of you. Hang tough - one Caribbean. We got this.

Those able-bodied men just hanging about chatting could be clearing away the galvanized (metal) sheets into piles in any open yard to make a start. It all needs to be done. Don't wait for others when it's your own village and you have time on your hands.

Disaster Risk management communication is a key element .Listening to my folks proper information was lacking, we had long time for Government building technicians and Risk management people to be on the island to advise .I worked with OXFAM in DIsasters and I am convinced better could have been done in terms of information and technical support in preparation

Looking at the roof of the first woman speaking whose roof is gone makes my point .Zinc were nailed down instead of screwed down .The rafters nailed and not bolted to the Perimeter beam .Houses need to be built on curb walls and back filled with corrugated steel in the foundation and columns. Columns should not be less than ten feet apart due to the island,s location to storm paths .Larger homes need concrete storm rooms with water , food , torches etc .We have to beat this menace people .

Time for official building codes to be established.Roofs need aluminum zinc sheets screwed down not nailed .The rafters must be screwed together then bolted down on the Perimeter beam

no one is talking about the agricultural sector and farmer where after beryl majority of crops suffering and on the ground all over st Vincent. sorry to say we wont have enough food for everyone shortly. fruit are falling ripen before maturity because of beryl. this has affected all vincentians where we are mostly depending on agriculture. i think every household in the country will need some assistance to move on.

That man that mentioned that he believe there were tornado in hurricane Beryl is absolutely correct. The strongest force in any hurricane is tornados. If we were to do a research on hurricane Ivan and the way it destroyed Grenada is the results of 39 tornadoes that touch down in core of hurricane Ivan.

The first mistake that caught my attention in the green section of her newly built house that Hurricane Beryl destroyed is that the roof is totally flat. There's absolutely no elevated gable to deflect the wind.

So many islands affected to get to all of them with essentials takes time ..The Indians with super markets in Grenada should put themselves out and help in providing water and other essentials ! I have things here in Texas I wish I can get some of those things out , clothing, and other essentials , but has no way !

So sorry to my fellow neighbors. Living in Trinidad we thankfully got missed but I’ve been in 13 hurricanes the worst was Luis when I was growing up in St. Maarten. The winds were coming from every direction. Gusts were cat 5. Sounded like you’re standing 5 ft from a speeding freight train. May the tiny islands of the Grenadines eventually repair, rebuild and renew.

Prayers with my fellow Caribbean brothers and sisters. Irma devastated us in St.Martin. All of us will pull through God has us all. Blessings.

This reminds me of what Irma did to Saint-Martin in 2017. It was a terrible time for us. At the same time, We had to deal with trauma and criticism.

I understand many persons affected by Hurricane Beryl.Please use galvanize screws no nails thicker galvanize clay shovel roof weather doors and weather windows if you can get it or afford it...hopefully you can to avoid the same situation repeating.

One minute we are hearing about all the help they want and the next we are seeingvthem jumping in by the streets at canaval, can someone please let me know what is the truth.

I think the local electrical company should be working 24hours no 8hrs.They need to ask for help from power companies to send some lines men or electrical egineers from neighboring Island like Trinidad Barbados Antigua Puerto Rico.Where is the United Kingdom good samaritans....Where is the owners of all these hardware companies all over the world..... also the construction workers.The airlines to St Vincent and the Grenadines need to reduce their flights so Good Samiritans can give a helping hand without thinking how ridiculous the prices are for the tickets.Each one help one ..that the blessings can flow to your own family/families.Excellent coverage👍.
