Also, should you know payroll if you want to work as C&B?
Hi there! Typically, no. That said, I have seen smaller organizations ask their compensation folks to do payroll or be the backup payroll person. This has only happened to me once in ~10 years so I wouldn't say it's super common.
Hi Janell, can you recommend a good informative textbook?
I gave myself 4 rating and was expecting 5 from manager. But he gave 4 only. How should I ask him to increase it. Please help. I have meeting tomorrow
Hi I'm so sorry I'm just seeing this now. I hope your meeting went well. Typically when I'm trying to understand a performance rating I will ask my manager to clarify what would get me to a 5. If they indicate something you can show you already do then it would be at that point I would advocate for myself.
I'm working at a movie theater and I'm interested in developing my skills in customer service. I want to help the patrons with refunds, voids, buying tickets etc without needing to call someone else to come to guest services and wait for 30 or 10 minutes to get assistance. I also want to develop my skills in going back to consessions again. I know I made a few mistakes on handling cash out and making the business lose money..but I have the tools to help me. I'll be slow but accurate. This is AMC theaters btw.
This is great and is just what I was looking for. Thank you.
Great video thanks
Glad you enjoyed it!
Trust me honey, the underrepresented apply all the time. We just don't look like you, so there's always a caveat or asterisk behind our resumes. It's not a coincidence that everyone you work with looks like you. Its by design.
Thank you for commenting. I think that's a great point and appreciate you tagging it under the video because you're right. I have a lot of privilege being a white, straight-passing person. If I were to remake this video now I would definitely figure out a better way to flag what you're saying and/or refer to a RUclipsr who could better speak to this topic.
Just stumbled up on this video because I am now up for my second 1:1 meeting with my manager and I am confused. My team consists of 4 persons and I am the only one that has been scheduled for 1:1 meetings. I´ve been at my current position for 20 years and my manager has been at the company for 5 months. I do not have any trust in him, I don´t think he has any idea of what our team does on a daily basis. I feel pinpointed and not in a good way. What to do? Help!
Can you use it for cold plunge or bulk food like half a buffalo? Arizona
Typically companies will have a resource that lists what you can/cannot use your HSA/FSA for. I'd recommend looking there first.
I cant stand my boss. I dont want to have one on ones as she is styfling and a micromanager. Any thing i bring up is long and drawn out and becomes bigher than initially.
How competitive is to get in? I have been trying to get into tech and even entry level jobs are extremely difficult to land.
So do we get a card to pay for our health care expenses
I've been at organizations that provide a card that is similar to a debit card. More often than not though orgs will have a reimbursement portal. You would take a picture of your receipt and submit it online and they would deposit the money into your checking acount.
Thank you for the informative video. How will be the career in employee benefits compared to Compensation. Which one will offer stable career growth for long run.
Glad you enjoyed it! Based on my experience, both jobs offer a similar amount of stability. That said, at smaller organizations benefits tends to be combined with HR Generalist duties while comp is typically always it's own specialization.
Thank you! Helps a lot
Can I fund a hsa with a ira or a 401k? What are the limits in 2024? 2025?
That's a great question and I don't think so. I would recommend reaching out to your benefits representative though to ask. My understanding is that you can only contribute to your HSA though your paycheck and/or can roll over previous HSA dollars into a new employers account.
Very good video. This gave me some good actionable ideas to help structure those conversations. Thanks!
Finally something useful.Thank you. Everything else was "you should have know better than that"
This is very very very helpful! Couldn’t thank you enough ❤
So glad you found it helpful!
I would like to say I have had a fantastic career in HR. I am currently the Director of HR, and I do not have a degree at all. Just lots of experience and compliance experience.
Hi, I would love to get into this profession.Do I search for Compensation specialist near my area to look for opportunities? Also, is it easier to get into HR first and go into compensation?
It depends on what type of experience you have! For more entry-level/starter comp roles I would recommend searching for 'Compensation Analyst'
So fair! When I first started making videos I was SO nervous and I think I started speed talking because of it lol. Will keep in mind!
REAL QUESTION FOR YOU JANELL: what if someone was lowballed after being given the "welcome" shake at final 3rd interview and then anticipating a start date & getting the call for the pre employment vetting process (occ med testing etc.) for hire... you are offered well below 1. what the job is worth, what the salary was posted at, what was initially discussed, etc. BUT you accept bc you are 1. personally in btwn a rock-and-a-hard-place (need the job), you were initially very excited to join, and there is definite room for growth/ moving up. HOWEVER the final number offered from HR is insulting, and sort of a "pull the wool over" scenario (having waited 3+ weeks & been excited, etc.) . A salary that normally wouldn't even apply for if it was posted at that rate, and never have made that less in the history of one's employment. Q:: How to up pay after hired. Or is a person plain old screwed?
Could I get into it with a business management degree
I can’t find the link for the template!!
Who speaks this "litterally" to their boss/coworkers? Always find these videos about career/professional dev pushing these ultra-formal and unnatural discussions and wording, but this one is top of the list.. I don't want to just come off as I'm just hating, but your content would benefit from toning down the "corporate" lingo and bringing these questions examples and discussion topics in a much more "natural" form and turning down on the heavily scripted conversation examples
Appreciate the feedback! Agreed that it’s best for folks to put any of the info provided into their own words. Folks should sound like themselves when advocating for something and not repeat templates word for word
Thank you this is very helpful
These are great advise for decent business owners who value hard working folks and want to share the rewards. Most bosses and owners run with fear or anxiety so you always feel like you are barely making it or praisrd just enough so you don't leave.
You are by far my favorite RUclipsr for compensation and negotiation videos. You explain so well!!
Thank you so much and I'm glad it's been helpful content!
Your video gives a great summary on compensation, thank you so much!!
I never knew what I wanted to do as a job, even today I don't know. I have looked at Project, HR, Supply Chain, Fraud manager positions, and their counterparts. I have yet to find a job I like. My dream place is on a farm that I run with my family on a valley somewhere in Tennessee. But I think this is only a dream of what I want to do outside of work. My ideal job would be one that I can work remotely, I can potentially create my own business, work anywhere in the world, pay is enough $80k+, has many different avenues like hr manager is to compensation analyst. I also never want to be in sales, I dislike to be customer facing, and I need a boss that isn't overbearing
Great video! Thanks so much. I haven't received a job offer yet, but I've had several interviews with the hiring manager for a position I'm interested in. I have found out that I seriously lowballed my salary requirements (approximately $20,000 less than the lower part of the organization's range) when I gave my range during the second interview recently. The reason I know this is because the job is posted on LinkedIn and the salary range is included in the posting. If I get an offer that's within my range, any suggestions on how to incorporate their LinkedIn range into an email?
Wait a few days before you respond to the offer. Love that!
I think that overall was a good video, but my suggestion is try to speak slowly.
Excellent vdo lecture related to the tips related to the qs....HR.In my opinion as a professional qs.likeidentification of training needs or pre training preparation, training process nd post training activities r also important aspect for HR manager or executives nd how to derive benefits from the system in brief as it is the epicenter for OD nd OB too for Productivity of any Sector or organization in brief.HR Audit is vry.essential which covers so many qs.in brief in my views for skill development rt.from grassroots level employees to top level executives in brief.Nice qs.since a strong bonding chain correlated with each other nd impact organization or Industries or business or any Department.Nice to hear inspiring vdo lecture as.Tips nd sincerely appreciated the topic on HRM.Thanx
Just found your videos. But thank you so much for making these!!
Hi! So happy to hear you find the content useful!
Thanks for your advice.🙂
just did this and it worked. Thanks so much for the video!
OMG YAY! And congrats (7 months late)!
Is it reasonable to ask for a sign on bonus I negotiate my offer and they accept? Or would you only recommend negotiating the bonus or other aspects of benefits if they cannot budge much on the salary ?
Thank you
Love this
Thank you so much for the tips and examples! Imma use it to negotiate tomorrow. Hope I’ll get it ✌️
Hi can you tell me about a Total Rewards Analyst?....I don't have any experience in this position but would like more information. I'm interested in applying.
Thank you for the great advice I do have one question. When sending the initial email what should the subject line say?
She should be given a Million Dollars for putting chapters on her videos
WORD OF ADVICE (former-Advertising/Marketing Director): Shorten overall length of your videos and speak a bit slower because today's generation have short-attention spans and take time to process verbiage lol
100% agree. Thank you!
Would love to learn more about all the broad-based comp tasks as a series! I’m also curious if you have thoughts on what kind of experience/tasks companies are explicitly looking for when they say “3-5+ yrs of compensation experience” in job postings. Thank you!
My manager's moto: company's not profitable. Then l ask: how does the firm manage to keep running and isn't shut down yet? WTH?!?!
How does this benefits for tax purposes
Reduces your taxable income
Is rolling PTO to next year required by law in Fl? I worked in a company who would tell us upfront If we don’t use our PTO by the end of the fiscal year you lose it. You don’t get paid for it and it doesn’t roll up to next year.
"Company culture is not going to pay my bills and it's not going to pay your bills." Amen. What a great statement, no matter how hard it may be saying no to your "dream job".
Your compensation video was very well done. Can you make another video to elaborate further on compensation specialization? Thank you.
