City Chicken Farm
Добавлен 20 май 2023
This channel is dedicated to my chicken tending journey. I post daily, usually daily egg collections which are often turned into "shorts" here. I have albums available that organize the egg collection content.
I bought my first 6 pullets from my local Rural King, 3 Rhode Island Reds & 3 Golden Comets. I got these breeds for high egg production, and early egg production. I bought them on April 20th, 2023.
I got my second set of 6 pullets from Rural King on Sept 25th, 2023. I got 2 Speckled Sussex, 2 Cochin, 2 Blue Laced Gold Wyandottes. The purpose was different colored eggs from this batch of ladies.
Currently based in Illinois, USA. Homesteading is the ultimate goal. I'd love to have rabbits, goats, horses, ducks, geese, turkeys again. And to try my hand at cows, pigs and quail.

😂
Why not get the with the spots
I don't understand what you meant by this?
They'll be OK, do u, ma
CANNIBALS!!!!
😂
🌷Naaaah … I can’t do that, because then my chickens get worse at breaking their eggs on purpose so they can get to the inside. They need the calcium from the shells… but I disguise the shells by pulverizing them in a blender. (also get pulverized oyster shell) I do make them scrambled eggs they love love, love that 😊 Yet I’m sure you’re a good chicken mama you sound very sweet!
Not true, feeding eggs back to chickens will not necessarily make them start to eat them from the nest. Plenty of people have fed eggs back for decades with no nest eating habits developing.
🖕🏻🫡 say goodbye to your daily eggs
Why? Do you believe the myth that this directly causes nest egg eating?
@@CityChickenFarm because I had this problem once before in my flock
@@Dash_Thebass That's very unfortunate. Good thing a roll out nest box is an easy fix. 😁 I post my egg collections every day, you're welcome to keep tabs on their progress. 🤗 Yesterday and today they laid 11 eggs, no nest egg eating. Today's collection will be posted tomorrow. 🥰
Stupid
Thanks for your opinion. 🥰
Bro chickens love eating their unborn my parents have like 80 chickens and you toss an egg and they attack like piranhas it’s crazy. Lol
DON'T FEED YOUR CHICKENS EGG SHELLS❗ They'll start eating the eggs. 😉
😂
Chicken 🐓 ❤❤❤❤🌈🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹
I'd recommend breaking it up more to be unrecognizable. possibly mix the shell in feed. if it's still recignizable or if they watch you break it and know it's an egg, they'll still potentially go after their eggs. chickens can be little buttholes sometimes. 😂
I'm not really worried about that right now. With how hard that shell was, they would have some difficulty breaking that themselves in the nest. This particular egg was likely laid while roosting at night and rolled down the poop catcher tarp and hit the concrete before rolling into sawdust. I've been lucky, some fall in the poop and don't break. 🥳
Its a good strategy, less likely to pick up the habit if it's associated with finding food and not with the nest. They'll know those are different
Lol. Sooo using your logic I tried to deter myself from drinking beer by only drinking outside, so far not working! I'll keep trying.
😆
😂😂 it gets better everyday😅 keep trying and stay strong💪

This is disturbing. Human are weird. This is cannibalism. Imagin giving birth to baby who didn't survived and then the nurse bring you a meal cook with your baby flesh because it is nutritional and healthy. I know that it can happen with some species but in general it's because they need to survive in hard time, not just to have a snack.
Chicken 100% naturally do eat their own eggs. Don’t equate this to human beings, it’s not the same thing. Also, that egg was unfertilized so it’s absolutely NOT like eating a full term baby after giving birth.
This is wildly inaccurate and very much a false equivalence.
You know what else helps deter them from eating eggs ( do not feed them eggs).
Not necessarily true. Plenty of people feed back eggs with no issues and have done so for years. Eggs are an excellent source of nutrition for the girls.
If you're feeding all the necessary vitamins and minerals to the chickens in the first place, you don't and shouldn't need to feed them the eggs. Also, feeding chickens their eggs, can in time further down the line, (if you allow them to breed), cause dna issues. This is how mad cow disease started, because cows were routinely fed bone meal, from their own species. The same has happened in humans cannibal tribes, when they have been eating the brains of their dead. In essence, don't do it!
This is not true for chickens. Chickens will eat their own eggs when left uncollected for long enough. These girls are not with a rooster, and are not necessarily breeding quality birds. Feeding back eggs is normal and healthy. ❤
So just my 30+ years experience of having between 4 to 25 hens at a time i never given hens broken eggs and you no what I never had any eat there own eggs/or other eggs. But who knows maybe I just make sure they have quality feed, are not stress or bord but you do you
Lol. You deleted my comment. Very funny. I must have hit a nerve. I'll say again. When you feed your chickens the proper food with all the vitamins and minerals they need, they don't need to eat the eggs. A good all-around layers pellet, with some cracked corn, wheat, and oats to keep them entertained, and the right ratio of grit and smashed sea shells for calcium, they'll set themselves up for good tasty eggs. Don't forget the extra protein from live or dead larvae. They love eating live larvae!
I'm not sure if my replies are showing up. This is what I'm trying to post: The purpose is to teach new laying pullets/hens where they should lay their eggs. Sometimes new laying chickens will lay eggs in the yard, their run, on the roost, etc. This helps them learn so the eggs are easy to find and stay relatively clean.
I'm not sure why anyone would think this is cruel, or not good to do. That makes no sense to me.
WHY???IT IS NOT A GOOD THING TO DO TO CHICKENS
How would this not be good? I don't understand. The purpose is to teach new laying pullets/hens where they should lay their eggs. Sometimes new laying chickens will lay eggs in the yard, their run, on the roost, etc. This helps them learn so the eggs are easy to find and stay relatively clean.
Why ????? Seams cruel

Did you have name for the chicken???
I have names for 8 of the 12 pullets. The Speckled Sussex and Wyandottes do not have names yet.
I love the fuzzy feets Cute chickens
Thank you! ❤ The Cochins are precious with their feathered feet! 😍
Ive raised Chickens 🐔 and there is always a few that want to stay out after every hen and rooster 🐓 is in for the Night 🌙.
Chickens are wonderful ❤️
I agree! 🥰
They look so happy 😊 Thank you ❤
ل
Chicken?
Yes, I have 9 laying pullets.
Ok
That is so adorable. Nice to see someone live their baby.
🥰
So cute❤
Thank you! 🥰
Excellent move towards organic eggs and meat. Where is this " city farm"?
We're not going for organic, at least not right now. We are located in Illinois, USA.
Good start. Eventually you would have control over the things you need and use. A pathway to self sufficiency.
@@mediaisthevirus3542 Homesteading is the main goal for the future. ❤
I miss when all me hens were alive and together at this age. Funny looking and still peeping and extra friendly.
During the day, the big girls are not very nice. 😏 It's nice seeing them all being close together and not running away from each other. 🥰😆
Woah my hens don’t lay that much eggs! Impressive
My Rhode Island Reds and Golden Comets are putting in the work! 💪 It's their first year so they aren't molting and have the ability to lay through the fall without much trouble. ❤
So cute❤❤❤
Thank you! 🥰
SOme beautiful birds ya got there ma'am. I love chickens! Awesome pets and animals!
Thank you! ❤

I thought I saw a snake in that fist nesting box
Oh no, definitely no snake in there. 😅 I would probably pass out on the spot. 😂😭
...did you lay that egg yourself?..🤔 wow...
Oh yes, it was an incredible experience. 😊
