BMW F10 N57 3.0 diesel fuel pump total wear out!!!
My M57n E53 X5 2004 3.0D 218ps did EXACTLY the same sound when warm. The EXHAUST manifold was split and caused this. Replaced it, the car now runs flawlessly! It was NOT the timing chain. It was the stainless steel exhaust manifold. It cracks easily past 150,000 miles.
Hi I have similar issue with X5 2011 tuwinturbo N57 can you please assist me and give same information about this issue if you able to see on my account will be grateful thank you
never ever turn engine backwards !!!!!!
I’m having timing chain anxiety 😂 the after clip is what mine sounds like now.
A cabeça do pistão ta toda fodida. Falta de. Manutenção
Nunca se deve rodar o motor para trás
@jonasjo202 bro what country you in I need your help 🙏🏼
The engine timing will miss?
Hi. No, everything stays in place.
Belt is better than chain and easy and cheap to replace.
Easy and cheap except for the wet belt systems like in peugeot, citroen, ford
Belt doesn't come on all cars so how is that even relevant when it's a video about a bmw with a chain
How much would a job like this cost in the uk?
£1000-£2000 depending on who does it.
£1000 if you use somewhere like X5 Engineering (the soecialists imo) other indipendents charge £1500 … dealer will be £2000+
I did ask my garage for my rwd n57 engine bmw just last week. 2500£ was their price as he said only parts are 1200-1300£. Main dealer- 4000£+
408 hp or 449 hp engine?
Is it possible that anybody has the part number or a link for the tool to remove injection pump two of them now one was too big on the threads that screw in the back of head one was too small was too small

b or n
Its b
Does pump need to be primed after changing pump or will turning the engine to start do it?
Hi. Every time when chaging pump, injector or even filter, fuel system should be primed using diagnostic equipment.
Many people miss this step out and some make it worse by removing the pipe from the fuel filter, so all the fuel runs out of the pump rather than disconnecting the fuel line from the high pressure pump line which has a one way valve, this at least keeps fuel in the pump - To bleed it's in ISTA Service Functions - Fuel Bleed If all the fuel has ran out of the pump, it must be primed or there's a chance of the roller bearing inside picking up on the cam and the pump will die in a matter of weeks, fills all your high pressure lines with swarf and contaminates the fuel tank via the return. Same thing if you put petrol in by mistake, got to get it towed, do not start the engine.
@@nemz7505 I don’t really understand your point? If your replacing the pump there will be no diesel in the new pump and also the fuel filter is better to be replaced with the new pump along with injectors and fuel rail. I got mine bled via software
Do you have to remove the engine to do this on a 330d ? F30
No not nesessery. I just made it for better view
Hi, can you please tell me what is this ticking sound that you still hear after all the changes? Is this just the normal n47 sound or not? Thank you
Yes, thats normal sound.
@@jonasjo202 thank you for your answer :)
You must only turn the engine in the correct direction source "BMW"
I had one of these in few weeks ago, engine toast for the sake of a few extra oil changes.
nunca se debe rodar a la inversa i menos un motor con cadena de distribucion
Can it be done only from under the hood? without lifting the car
Yes, but you need a friend to hold the crankshaft .
@@jonasjo202 yep, that's for sure. But I thin in your case it's also necessary to hold it. Or you just used the fixator?
Usualy i am useing fixator, but sometimes it goes quite easy...
The last engine where you should stretch your oil changing intervalls is the n47. You should rather half them. It is a miracle that tge engine still runs.
Engine light 😅 on your car instrument cluster 😂. Sompting wrong 😉🙃
hey there, after replacing these, does the problem go away for how long? is it one time only change and engine "lasts forever"?
Hi. Replaceing with original BMW spare parts, it can last 150-200 000km.
automatic?
No
How many km does this engine have ? Also what can you do to prevent this to happen ?
Hi. I do not remember how much KM, but you must bleed fuel system after filter change.
I cant get my fuel pump fully out... It only gets out 1cm or so but not all the way out. I have tried to pull it out but it wont move. The screw on the back is also loose and removed. I tried with the special tool also.
Hi. I beleave the sprocket is still tight on axel. Take a look on my other videos, you will understand. Did you use special tool to release pumps sprocket?
@@jonasjo202 Yes, but i didnt hear the "click" everyone talks about. I just started trying to pull it out and it got a little more out, but its still very tight...
Sometimes there is one more small very long bolt from the gearbox side.
I also misread the title... Thought it said n47 (the one i have), but it might be almost the same thing
año 2008??motor grupo PSA ,no jaguar
I have same issue did you sort it the problem and why it's like that ?
I have changed them. My opinion poor oil chande, start stop system etc.
Hello thanks for the very helpful and easy to understand video, does the gearbox need to come out on a f10 530d 2010?
No, not necessary, just working from the top
and on f30 n57 ?? I can without removing the gearbox??
Hi. Not nesessery to remove gearbox.
Does the tool hold pump sprocket once the pump is removed? Can I do it without removing gear box?
Hi. Tool holds sprocket perfectly. Yes, you can remove pump, no Gearbox removal. Its quite easy job. Just before putting on take a look, sprocket has spline.
Thank you. What is the torque for sprocket bolt? Is it torqued up so gently?
@@maciejkociszewski3045 65NM, your wellcomme! Greetings from LT 😄

Its just for fun😅, everyting is ok. That motor is running till now.
ale super znalezisko mam nadzieje ze autorzy sie do was zglosza i powstanie odcinek....
i have a question? may you help? i have an 1series n47, to take the oil pump out do i have to take down the gearbox?
Hi not necessary, but must lower down suspension. For xdrive also diff and other parts.
@@jonasjo202 thank you so much for the prompt response! will check on the pump asap!
Gearbox removal to remove fuel pump???!!!!! Total madness BMW continues to develop backwards. The last decent engine was the M47. Good for half a million miles on original timing chain etc. Insane having timing chains at the rear. Shame on you BMW
apart from the swirl flaps failing
@Jules Anderson L'ignoranza ti fa parlare...fai qualche ricerca sulle caratteristiche delle autovetture prodotte da BMW e capirai da solo che hai detto una stupidata. Ti do un piccolo indizio...distribuzione del peso! Saluti dall'Italia
Can a bad tentioner also cause this? I have the same issue when turning backwards it skips
In such case, there's more than bad tensioner. There's should be something else broken too.
@@jonasjo202 it dosent jump as easily as in your video it takes about as much much effort as it would take to spin the engine, I can see/hear the timing chain jump a tooth on the crank gear when doing so. No issues turning the crank clockwise only does this when turning counter clockwise. I was hoping to just retime engine and put a new timing chain tensioner.
@@jonasjo202 this happend right after a valve cover replacement and new coil packs. The coil packs were bad and the engine ran terrible for about 30 seconds than it threw intake and cam correlation codes right away. Engine sounded perfectly fine with the old coil packs and before we took the valve cover off to take a better look. This is when I noticed the teeth jumping when turning counter clockwise. Highly feel like the engine in its current state is undamaged( piston valve contact) want to make sure it stays that way. This is on a n55
@@mustafay4427 hi. On these gasoline engines i had changed plastic guides and chains many times, because they get old and brokes down easy. Also they chain skips as well. So, take a better look and check timing. Good luck 🤞
@@jonasjo202 thanks for the reply the car has 200,000 kms but also running a much bigger turbo. Even with a new chain tensioner the guide is moving a lot. The intake cam is pretty hard to turn the exhaust cam is smooth. Can this be due to valvetronic? ruclips.net/user/shortsKvYA5yQ6KfY?feature=share ruclips.net/user/shorts77R97QNRFHM?feature=share
What do you do with that?
Replace it
My 2015 bmw x5 bleeds the low pressure , and is hard to start ,do you know what controls the low pressure side?
Fuel pumps in tank pressure is controlled eletricaly by controller (there's no regulators). Pressure should be around 4bar.
Hi! Did you replaced all 3 chains on xdrive with only gearbox removed?
Yes, all 3. Almost always I'm changing oil pump also.
@@jonasjo202 Nicely done! I watched guides with 2wd with gearbox removed. So for xdrive you removed cv axle and front differential, anything else?
@@Lamelldiff this way how i do: first remove valve cover, then hang engine on strong holder. Then take down gear box. After that put suspension down and take of rear diff, axels and oil pan. And then the rest. It is complicated job to do, takes few days.
@@jonasjo202 thank for explanation. Is it possible to replace two chains exluding oil pump? Like to split/open up chain lock/Snap? Iknow its best to do all at once but so much more to do. Thanks for answers.
Snapping chain method you can replace only top one, tensioner, one guide and top sprocket. I had done this once.
Hi, i have the tool in place, but when u use the E14 socket the tool comes also back out. what am I doing wrong? My car 118d n47d20a
Hi. Never has happened to me. As I understand: when you unscrew e14 bolt, at the same time unscrews also tool? Maybe try to lubricate tool and bolt to reduce friction against them. Also the tool must be fully screwed in.
Yes, they both come loose Is it possible that with the N47 you first have to remove the bolt then insert the tool? I saw that on RUclips or is this absolutely not recommended
No, do not remove bolt alone. I believe something's wrong with the bolt's cap. Maybe it's surface damaged and grips together with tool. On other hand, if you have new bolt, replace it, and then try again. Lubricate, to reduce friction.
@@pronsbrook1792hello i have the same problem do you have any idea ?
@@pronsbrook1792 did you find the issue
Hi,what about B47 engine?!
Hey, I have F10 with N57 engine (270.000km), serviced on 15.000km with BMW oil. No weird noises whatsoever, shoud I consider replacing timing chain just to be sure?
Hi. If chains hasn't never been changed or serviced until now, better save money for changing them. Sometimes delaying costs tvice.
You should be chaging the timing around 200000 km. Anything after that is a gift. The problem is not only the chains and tensioners etc but the crankshaft bearings. They are all gone by this time. I just did my own timing and had only 187000 km and the bearings are worn. If you dont change the bearings it wont last long. You have to pull the engine out of these vehicles and remove the crankshaft.
True, true 😂😭🤞
those chains arent so problematic like everybody says mine n47 has 320k km on the clock with second chain fitted at 225k km but it was not strechted at all. and my friend has a n47 with 260k km with original chain the key is besides frequent oil changes also to warm up the engine before driving. it cant be possible that timing belts last longer than timing chains
@@pavokx well I think it depends alot on how you use the car, if you use it alot for city driving with frequent engine on/off, then you will put a strain on the chain. That also goes for start/stop system... Doesn't matter for me anymore because I already changed 2 cars since then and now I have Cayenne 3.0TDI (no chain service done yet). Btw are you also from Slovenia, because of your name?
What do you think? ruclips.net/user/shorts86n2J-CNY-U?feature=share this is my n57
Great video thanks..Does the engine need to be locked at TDC?
Hi. Yes, but sometimes goes without locking.
@@jonasjo202 thanks very much for the info
I have this sound only at cold start untill the oil get hot, need to replace it 😬🤦🏻♂️

Hi from argentina, same noise here but it is intermittent, when idle after a few seconds it stops. Did you have te same symptoms? engine just fully rebuilt, cuold it be injection problem? thanks for any help!
