So I just switched over from a sole proprietor to a Single member LLC and I got a EIN so I could open a business account at the bank. Did I just over complicate things for myself?

Going from sole prop to LLC DOES require a new EIN 😩 according to the lawyer I used. It would have been nice to hear the answer with that information.

Is it safe/legal to sell clothes made from fabrics bought at a fabric store that don't have characters and logos, but have solid colors, stripes, floral prints, seersucker, etc.? If I have a backyard plant nursery llc and I have it registered to my home address can I, the property owner, rent out the backyard to the llc, the tenant? I found it really strange that some public makers would claim copyright on their crochet patterns that I have seen in circulation for years, not to mention for free! It seems more of a deterrent for other people not to make those patterns to sell. I would understand a really unique item, but for a common pattern, doesn't make sense!

I sell products made with licenced fabric. I did everything you said to avoid the trademark infringement, such as saying "mask made with licneced Harry Potter fabric" instead of "Harry potter mask", and putting disclaimer there to make it extra sure it's clear I am in no way associated with the brand. My listing still got taken down probably in a sweep. Some of my products are hit and others are not. Should I reach out to Warners Brothers to ask what I can do to amend it (I saw on reddit someone did that and the person from WB actually told them what they can do to operate within the acceptable range)? Or would that just draw their attention which they may strike everything and take my shop down?

Hi, Kiffanie! I'm a law student and I'm researching this very topic because I'm a crocheter/knitter/cross-stitcher myself! I'm researching how pattern authors can protect their patterns from piracy. There are many patterns that are claimed and sold by pattern pirates. They often steal the photos and patterns in their entirety. I understand photos are copyrightable, but not patterns. My question is: In your video, you mention that a pattern designer could possibly protect themselves by inserting a contract for the sale of the pattern and thereby issuing a license for the sale of the finished good. How can you license something for which you don't have a bundle of rights? Would a contract for the sale of the pattern be enforceable if it says they cannot claim the pattern and sell it as their own? Thanks!

My claim status went from "Pending" to "approved" but I do not see a registration number and my "case" is still showing as open. I am at a loss as to what it means and after reading over 1000 pages in the copyright.gov literature, I am still unable to find resolution. Any help would be much appreciated!

Kind of a technical question here but I have written a script for a comic book, can/should I submit copyright at time of completion of the script and then again after the final comic file is available? Or can I only submit the copyright request once and should wait until the completed comic file is done? In my specific situation I’ve just sent an application to the copyright office with my final draft version or the script but would also like to submit the final completed comic book file too.

An LLC will not only affect your liability exposure but also your taxes. Whether or not the company is good or bad is not the question. The question is really, if you're not a lawyer or accountant and file on your own, will you know whether an LLC is the right choice for you?

From my experience it’s terrible, after sales team put you in, you are on your own. Wait 2 hours for transferring, for a customer service to cancel your order. Plain Terrible.
