U-Cell Eliminates Process Waste
Hi folks, in this before-and-after video, we tackle waste in our basketball hoop sewing process. The original layout caused unnecessary transportation and increased inventory on the floor. By implementing a U-shaped cell, we streamlined the workflow, reduced work-in-progress inventory, and eliminated non-value-added movement.

Great
what about making all 4 wheels free rotation ....
Thanks for the great question! We’ve found that using two fixed and two rotating castors helps keep the trolleys manageable when loaded. With four rotating castors, they can start to weave around and become tricky to control, so this setup gives us better handling.
Nice!
Soo cool love it Norm 🎉🎉❤
Norm? Your daughter ROCKS!!!
Lean rock 'n' roll at home ❤
I love it ❤
This is what shorts should be. Topics that would be a waste of time at 5 minutes but are a nice use of 30 seconds.
Thanks so much! We totally agree-quick, focused videos are a great way to share improvements without wasting time!
Great idea
Tape measure one was excellent, as well as the yellow paint on the cart for hot parts. Congratulations! Kudos from Brazil
Thank you so much for the kind words and support-glad you enjoyed the improvements! Sending our best from China to Brazil!
Awesome! I've used some 3D prints as alignment jigs also for repeatably clamping irregular parts in a mill vise
That’s awesome! 3D-printed jigs are such a game changer for us-we have to replace them from time to time because they wear quickly, but they’re still totally worth it!
Brilliant!
3D Printed Go No Go Guages, absolutely smart and most efficient method for checking production !!! 🎉
Glad you like it, Michael!
🔥🔥🔥
Those toilets need improving
Thanks for watching. I'm curious about your comment, what specifically did you think we could improve in the washrooms?
@@normohara I see nothing wrong there, I'm quite sure the comment is directed towards the squat toilet, which is common in certain parts of China.
@@anexoworkshop You’re absolutely right-squat toilets are common in most parts of China and are often preferred by our staff.
Looks Great Norm! any chance you could share the STL file?
No problem! Send me a note at nohara@gobasports.com and I will be happy to share the file.
very inspiring. I love the toilet paper visual control. It would have saved me something embarrassing this week. lol!
So glad it was helpful! 🤣
Lean ideas factory! How many of you are working overtime for these ideas? Great Great Great! I literally bow!
Thank you for the kind words, Pankaj.
Never in my life have I seen this level of creativity you win the creativity award for 2024 hands-down no one’s even close!!!!!!!
Wow fantastic idea norm😊
Freaking awesome!!! ❤
Next level norm
Your videos is by far the most lean-value per watched minute. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the encouragement, that means a lot.
I love that Norm. So simple. You guys are inspirational for the rest of us. Keep up the great work!
Thanks, Edwin.
This is so simple but so many companies don’t see it! I worked in a hardwood flooring factory and whenever we needed to compare the colour of a floor board from the finishing line with the showroom sample we needed to take a 5 minute round trip walk. Production stopped for that entire time, affecting at least 6 people. Then after we looked at the colour comparison we would need to make colour adjustments to the stain. That took at least 10 minutes (weighing, mixing, allowing the machine to cycle the new stain) then after that another 5 minutes to apply the finish and cure it. 20 minutes at least to check if the colour was right. And if it wasn’t we had to walk back to the showroom. Unfortunately I was not there long enough to solve the problem, and I was a beginner in lean thinking.
I know what you mean. I sometimes feel embarrassed posting because once you see the improvement, you realize how silly it was that we suffered for so long, and you can't help but ask, "What were we thinking?" 🤣
Crazy good!!!!!!
Wow. Amazing job Norm and team! Must be a great culture booster
The result looks amazing!
You need a roof top Hereford. Fresh milk!
That is a whole new level of sustainability!! Haha, great idea.
Absolutely stunning. God bless you and the team Norman.
Norm everything your team touches turns into gold! Great so amazing! 🎉🎉🎉
You guys are going crazy!! 🍌🍌
This factory is one of the greatest Things i have seen in a Long Time. Thank you so much for showing us the achievments of your team.........great stuff
Thanks for the encouragement. One of our objectives at the plant here is to be “uncommon.” At least in China, my experience has been that you can visit factory after factory, and they all start to look and feel the same.
That’s such a great idea!
Your Videos are so inspiring
Glad you like them!
Thanks Norm! Your lean improvement videos are probably the best I've seen. With all the care you put into standardizing and improving the process, it's no wonder! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you. I really appreciate the comment.
Norm, thx for sharing this lesson. Great video as always! 🙏
at 1:04 the worker spills product going into the bag. there has to be a way to keep the bag upwards, and the scoop the right size.
Good spotting. If you note the improvement at the end of the video, we change the process and use an easy cup that removes any guesswork or spilling from the process.
@@normohara thank you. Please include some small "broom" so the worker does not have to use their fingers as this worker did, to push the material into a pile, then used the 150g cup.
why not make a instructional video on the process of making a video - so that each worker can actually do the video themselves.
Thank you for the suggestion! While creating instructional videos on video-making would be ideal, our large team of 200 employees makes it challenging to achieve our goal of standardized, easy-to-follow content.
Love this... thank you Norm!
Next level, as always Norm
Amazing video as always. Lean and precise
Your videos are the best. Thank you for sharing all this with us
The videos from Norman and the entire team are the ones i enjoy the most. They are so good i can use them for people who never heard of lean and the easily understand the bottom line. I really appreciate your effort to show us everything
Thank you for the comment. We have learned just about everything about implementing a lean culture from other companies that were gracious and generous enough to share their journey openly. This channel aims to share what we have learned so other companies can experience the same transformational benefits.
A plastic sleeve over the U Bolt would further protect the paintwork from excessive point loading pressure
That's an excellent idea, Michael. We will add that!
Hola amigo Norm!! Put a piece of thin hose on the curved bolt to prevent scratches!!
Yes, great idea! Thank you, Pablo. We have some soft rubber tube that will work perfectly.
Great idea Norm! 🔝
Fantastic!
Brilliant!
Nice! What supplier provides the foam (brand)?
Pretty sure that’s all from Fastcap.
@@prestigewoodworks1651 Not for $270 total!
One of the perks of being located where we are is that manufacturers are nearby. We source this directly from a factory about 45 minutes from our location. I will note that the quality of what we use does not pull apart quite as nicely as what Fastcap sells. But the cost is excellent.
