Megaman Maverick - Precious Woman - Minor Updates - 01-26-2025
Just another demo with mostly the same stuff from the previous videos. Only difference here is that I've done some more minor tweaking to Precious Woman's behaviors, including adding a ground slide ability for her. Does this fight look properly balanced? Too easy, too difficult? As always, feedback is welcome.

Proof-of-concept for the boss fight against Precious Woman. Right now, the only behaviors implemented for her are running, jumping, and shooting a bullet out of her hand. I'm imagining her being able to launch large gem stones out of her hands, but I haven't yet finalized what that should look like. Any ideas for her boss fight are welcome! Hmm... what if she was faster?
I can make her run ability faster. Originally, I had the gems fly faster, but it kind of made the battle unfair since they're already pretty challenging to dodge. When it comes to bosses, my philosophy is that (1) the boss should be fun and challenging, but at the same time (2) you should be able to beat the boss without taking any damage, i.e. all attacks are avoidable to some degree. It's a fine balance to get exactly right.

Hello, I saw a video of your project on Discord, so out of curiosity I decided to watch your RUclips channel. I liked the fangame and the design of the robots is interesting. I wish you good luck with the project, and you could increase the speed of the projectiles and Precious Woman herself. The rest is perfect.
Thanks for the compliments on the game! Yeah, I'll continue tweaking her behaviors to try and get the right balance between challenge and fairness.
Just some more minor updates to her behaviors. Added a ground slide ability, made her air punch attack faster, and increased the "cooldown time" between attacks. Hopefully, these changes make the fight both more interesting and also more balanced. Does it look balanced? Too hard, too easy?

Cool! She can summon interdimensional diamonds and use it for both defense (shield format) and attack (combat projectile).
Not so sure if they're interdimensional, but they're definitely pretty and sparkly!

I haven't added any attacks for her yet because I'm still trying to come up with ideas. Figured I'd go ahead and share what I have done so far to see if anyone can come up with cool attack ideas.
This is just a proof-of-concept which is why Precious Woman's behavior is so simple and easy. I'm still trying to come up with what attack behaviors she should have. Any ideas from others are greatly appreciated!
Why is everything so slow?
@@vincenzomarinostylex9765 The stage takes place in space which explains the low gravity and slow movement. It's a reference to Dark Dizzy's stage in X5.

I've also added the ability for Megaman to ground slide beneath blocks (which is shown in the first part of this video). Believe it or not, I had never implemented this until just now. Wouldn't be a proper Megaman game without it in my opinion.

I feel like this game has me imagining if X never existed and it was all Classic formatted. You're also using 8-bit remixes of the X games. X6 boss music fits well for the fight.
The game takes place late in Megaman's life. Dr. Light has started developing parts for Megaman which serves as the prototype for X. The X6 boss fight theme is too kick ass not to use, lol.

The changes made to her boss fight: - While running, she can swing her axe to hit Megaman and deflect bullets. - Pebbles are no longer destructible. - Falling leaves fall faster and have a wider oscillation. Edit: I also made the "room shake" effect more noticeable.

Lumber Joe attacks too fast, making it annoying to deal with, i suggest making it throw his axe 3 times before stopping until he is ready to attack again.
Yep, I can do that. I'll also play around with making his "unshielded" frame last a bit longer. Right now, each animation frame, including his "unshielded" frame, is 0.1 seconds.
Cutscenes would be a great feature.
I'm planning to work with an artist (most likely through commission) to develop an intro. I'm thinking there's going to be a non-narrated intro when the game first loads, and then an additional cutscene when a new game is started.

I'm working on the game in my spare time. Got work and other things going on in life. That being said, I have no idea. I'll keep working on it until I get bored or I can't anymore. I imagine given another year (or less) I can get a fully playable alpha out there.
It's been almost a full year since the first upload I made of this game. It's crazy to think how much has changed with this game (and my life in general) in less than a year. This doesn't even look like the same game I'm making now. First off, there's the big elephant in the room, and that's the graphics in this video. Like come on, how did I not notice over a year ago that the Megaman and enemy sprites are so incorrectly proportioned to the tiles? It looks like mini-Mario playing here lol. And don't even get me started on that wanky interpolated camera movement YUCK. I've gotten a lot of criticism and also a lot of help from the community in this past year. Special shout out to Samuel, Vinny, and AzureVent for giving their contributions to this game! Without all this help, I wouldn't have gotten as far as I have with making the game. I'm hoping that by January 2026, I can look back on the recordings I've made recently and think, "Wow, how the hell did I think THAT was a good game? What I have now is SOOOOO much better." Cheers!

In most Mega Man games. Say Mega Man 1 for Example. Mega Man or any Boss blows up in a circular fashion whenever an HP is reached to zero.

@@ChrisRider98 Reusing Magma Man's tileset was a major barrier to being able to come up with good level design. I find that a lot of my ideas for each level are based on the tileset, which is why I ended up commissioning an artist to really bring my ideas to life.

@@ChrisRider98 I'm using LibGDX which is a Java library for developing games on desktop and mobile. The engine (physics, behaviors, UI, and other similar logic) are written by me.

1:30 Again. It shouldn't use the splash sound effect. Replace it with MM5's explosion sound. As for the stage itself. This is a whole lot better than the old one. i could suggest adding a silhouette of Mega Man's sprite whenever the smoke is obscuring the view.
@@retropixel1272I'll address the SFX ASAP. I replaced the sound effect already in Moon Man's stage but forgot to do it here too. Glad to hear that you think this stage is better. I'm working hard to get better at level design. I'll think about thr silhouette idea. It's require me learning how to work with shaders so that'll be interesting.

Shout out to Samuel for the amazing sprite sheet for Timber Woman! He did an excellent job of translating my ideas into reality here! This video showcases the first draft of the boss fight for Timber Woman. Some of the animations are missing. Also, there are some improvements and balancing issues I'm working on at the moment. For example, in the version shown here, the pebbles and falling leaves deflect Megaman's bullets, but in the updated version I'm working on, the leaves and pebbles can be destroyed by Megaman. I'm tweaking other values too to improve the fight. Let me know what y'all think!
