Breyten Breytenbach is worth a research if you dont know about him. He was imprisoned on some nonsensical charges and the government also tried to claim he was plotting a Soviet submarine attack on South Africa. His crime? Trying to form a white anti-aparteid political group. He was in prison for 7 years, was abused by his jailors, including being mocked and harassed after his mother died, and upon his release the French government gave him citizenship so he wouldnt be persecuted anymore. He only died in November 2024 and it wasn't reported on very much internationally, despite his work to make south africa a more equal place.
