    Hello. Mrs Judy told us to contact you about our daughter. She said you are also from Fort Worth. Our daughter started plying the violin in 6th grade (now 8th grade). In that short time she has made it to be second chair in regionals and also second chair in the string orchestra for Fort Worth symphony youth orchestra. We do not have a private tutor so her only instruction has been from orchestra teachers and a lot self taught (she even taught herself Vivaldi spring and preformed it at our church). We have been told to get a private tutor to help her even more but that we need to get a college level tutor for her. If you have any ideas (I am a teacher and am not made of money) of a good tutor we could afford. Also, if you have any videos about posture you recommend. She is having trouble with one shoulder now being lower than the other and I am sure it is how she does the violin. We recently got her a better solder rest (she says it is a lot better than the other) to see if that also helps. Thank you for any help.

    Beautiful performance, yet I have one question. I’m a young violinist and I’m learning this song, how do you do such effortless and beautiful vibrato on the extremely high f sharp on the e string? I’m struggling with making my fourth finger vibrato sound as great as my other fingers.

    • @violindoctor2
      @violindoctor2 28 дней назад

      I'm sorry for the long delayed response. I used to struggle with my pinky vibrato too... as well as my 1st finger. If you're able to learn both wrist and arm vibrato, sometimes the uncooperative finger has better success with one more than the other. Usually it's a matter of tension. If you can get some flexibility and strength, it should improve. Please have a look at my vibrato videos for exercises. Thank you so much for commenting. Best to you.

    I’ve just come across your videos today and you’ve provided a real generous amount of helpful knowledge (born out of experience). Thank you for that. Like you mentioned, faster bow speed can play a big role in a good tone especially on the lower strings (ie. G, D). Even as an adult student, I’m still working on using a slightly slower bow speed on the upper strings (ie. A,E) while applying a bit more pressure on those.

      Yes, that makes sense - I saw your comment on the Danny Bow video. Arm vibrato does not require help keeping the wrist still, so I think it's better to learn arm vibrato lower than 4th position. The action is initiated by the bicep and tricep. However, the wrist vibrato requires movement above the wrist and stillness below the wrist, so I encourage the student to start in 4th position. Thank you so much, and best to you.

    Finally, after many searches, I found this video which capably demonstrates the look and form of moving the bow at different speeds- thank you for showing how the whole arm is involved in the process and not compartmentalized into only finger, wrist, or elbow movements. The movements you are demonstrating incorporate humeroscapular rhythm in which the shoulder blade follows the upper arm in its connection with the shoulder blade (also a part of our arm) after 30 degrees of rotation in any movement. Your arm is free and flowing with no breaks and the sound clear and vibrant. Some videos talk about a still elbow as the basis for all bow movement but this is not correct. What you show is the full range of motion which exercises, appropriately, all the muscles involved in moving the bow. Brava!

    • @violindoctor2
      @violindoctor2 3 месяца назад

      Thank you so much - that means a lot. I think the bow arm is very challenging in all stages, but especially to the self-taught or beginner/intermediate player. There is so much going on there, just to achieve a straight bow. Our body naturally makes arcs when moving, like swinging one's arms while walking, etc., so when trying to make a straight bow, it goes against all our natural instincts. It almost feels as if we're making a C shape to "cancel out" the natural arc we want to make. The elbow has to move laterally (first swinging in a subtle opening motion, then near the tip a subtle closing motion) as well as downward (if on the A or E strings) to follow the hand motion/frog descent. Most are not fully aware of all the movements the bow arm makes, especially in the wrist, elbow and shoulder joints. I appreciate your detailed comment. Best to you.
