******************************* All the musicians of the orchestra read their score, which no takes away from them their talent, because they are all “stars”. And then Miss Wang as a soloist, who read no note, and makes no wrong note on a masterful work of 50 minutes. And then his touch, and this sensitivity. How to say thank you to such an artist ! Because she also plays works by Liszt, Chopin, Mozart, Beethoven, by Schubert and many others......The list of his directory is very long !

It is an impressive work. But the first movement makes the third look almost easy. I spent 8 months on the work about about 70% of the time was with the 1st movement, the second about 20% and rhis third movement only about 10%. It is very pianistic so fits the hands very naturally and the polyphony is only in a few areas. This interpretation is just outstanding. The sense of relentlessness is very important. She is rushing just a little in by view as many do, as the irony and sarcasm is more possible to display by moderating the tempo but exaggeration all of the contrasts.

Damn, I truly can't say that I've ever heard Scarbo played so convincingly. I've always wondered about playing 'Ondine' or 'Scarbo' alone as an excerpt because I have Ondine memorized but never went on to learn Scarbo as it's an undertaking on its' own. Curious why she decided not to play the whole piece! If anyone knows where to find Yuja playing all 3 movements of Gaspard please let me know in a comment!

It's a wonderful composition that's not often performed. YW played with style and delightful enthusiasm. YW always complements the orchestra well. She listens to the music as a whole, not just her own part. (I even prefer YW's interpretation of Mozart over Uchida's, as YW's performance is full of life while Uchida's is more stylish to the period but lacks liveliness.) Laval's tone was too heavy and lacked vitality, making it somewhat cumbersome. His general interpretation of Mozart is typical of the continental style, not unique. His piano playing doesn't blend well with the orchestra (which is surprising as he is its conductor). The orchestra was good, but not on the caliber of the Vienna Philharmonic. The tempo was a bit fast, in my opinion. Their encore was delightful.

By the way this place is in Germany´s collective memory very particulair, but almost forgotten. It is the "Feldherrnhalle", right in the middle of the city, a Renaisance style open hall, where in 1923 Hitler and right wing troups tried their first coup d´etat. With some 15 shot rebels, and 4 shot police men. Hitler was condemned to 1 year in jail, pardoned for good conduct after 9 month. Later with Hitler in power there was a memorial plaque with armed guard of honour. Every citizen had to salute with the German Salut ( right arm up, the so called Hitler Salut) in "Honour of the than shot right wing rebels". Who did not show the salut, had to spent some days in prison. But at the backside of the "Feldherrnhalle" was a little street ,the so called "sciver alley", where people walked to avoid the front with the plaque and the guards. - Thank god all this is forgotten, story from some 90 years ago. Let´s enjoy music, peace and the nice weather. By the way Europe has peace, since 1945, with exception the civil war in former Yougoslavia, a period of peace of some 80 years. We had never such a long period of peace. It was normal to have 1 calendar year equal to 3 !!! years of war, in 3 different places. This wonderful evening is a joy and an example how easy it could be to live peaceful together. Sorry for my melancholic note.
